    This is a great filter! A lot cheaper than the Brita filters too. I'm not sure why people are giving them a bad review. I have bought several of these and never had a problem. One person wrote a review saying it doesn't fit all the way. Well, the only thing I can think of (because I did this in the beginning) is when they placed the filter into the pitcher, they inserted it the wrong way. There is a notch that you have to line up when you put it back into the pitcher. As for it not draining all the way, I've never had that problem. Like I said, I have bought several of them. Maybe there was a defect in theirs. That happens with every product. But if you are worried about trying it, just buy the one pack filter. If you don't like it, you can always take it back. Walmart backs all their products.

    I'm so glad I decided to try these. I've used Britas for years and they are just way overpriced for simple charcoal filters. These work fine. I drink black tea in white porcelain cups, and if the water filter stops filtering, the tea starts staining the cups - its that simple. These last as long as the Britas before this happens, about the specified 40 gallons, even here where we have lots of calcium in our water. There is one problem. These filters have a tendency to airlock when first installed, even when properly prepped. This has caused a lot of bad reviews as the water filters very slowly when this occurs. The simple solution to this is to fill the upper reservoir over the top of the filter, then simply use a spoon to tap on the top of the filter to release the locked air. Bubbles will come shooting out. After that, the filter flows as well as the Brita filter without having to tap again.

    The price is right @ $3.33 per filter vs $4.75-$5.00 for the name brand "BRITA". However the Great Value brand is a poor performer. I bought a 3 pack on Friday 3/22/13 and within a few hours I had already given up on the first filter and opened another. The 2nd one does filter the water thru but as stated it takes about an hour. So for $10 I have one filter that is totally defective and one that takes at least an hour to perform a 4-5 minute task. Not worth it, I'm going back to BRITA.

    It seems strange that a product would be packaged wet...should I return it?

    • In their manuals, Brita states that their filters are sometimes wet when you open them, so it makes sense the same would apply here. The only thing I don't understand is why it's *sometimes* - shouldn't it be always or never? Either way, it seems new filters being wet is par for the course.

    • Yes this is normal, the filters should come in a sealed package that seals in the water because if these filters dry out then they won't filter water, you are also supposed to soak them fully submersed in water for 15-20 minutes before using anyways.

    • Joe, I have a Brita pitcher and bought the Great Value filters because of the price. I soaked the filter for 15 minutes as stated in the instructions then I held it under the faucet and turned it while letting the water run on the top, on the bottom and on the sides for about a minute and then I put it in the dish drainer and let it drain for about 3 minutes.... then I installed it making sure the slot on the filter was lined up and slipped down on the ridge inside the pitcher that is by the handle inside my pitcher. Everything worked fine...the water ran through the filter into the pitcher at a rate comparable with the Brita filters and a day later the water tastes good. Good luck! I hope my instructions are as clear to you as they are to me. :-)

    • Make sure you soak the filter for at least 15 minutes before using it. Also, the first couple of pitchers of water need to either go to your plants or simply pour it down the drain.

    • I always soak a new filter for awhile and then rinse it under running water. Also, while it's soaking, I work it up & down a few times to make sure it's properly wet.

    • You should have soaked your filter in water for like 5 minutes. Then rinse it well. It says how long to do it on the instructions.

    • The presoaking instructions for this filter are as follows: Soak filter upright in tap water. Flush filter by holding upright under running tap water for 15 seconds. Allow excess water to drain completely from each filter. Be sure filter is securely seated into the filter port.
