I love this thing! There are a few things that you have to be aware of before purchasing it. You need to have a tv with an open HDMI port and either a usb port to power it or an electrical outlet to plug in the power adapter. A wireless internet connection. You can use a desktop PC that is using Windows Vista or higher, (it will not work with Windows XP), tablet or smartphone to configure it. Once we got it connected to the tv and on the wifi network my 8yr old started to cast directly from her ipod with no added setup, it just worked. On our android tablets and kindle fire HD we had to download the free Chromecast app and it worked without a hitch. From my windows pc I can cast webpages to the tv once I installed the Chromecast extension in my Chrome browser which was nice because from the tablet there are only a limited number of apps that can cast to it, such as Netflix, HBO GO, Pandora and some others. I think for the price that I paid for this it's a really cool gadget!

I was about to buy Apple TV for $100 when I heard about this product. I already had the ability to stream Netflix shows and movies on my TV, but my network bandwidth was a continual problem. The shows were constantly stopping to sync up, and it became so annoying that I was about to cancel my Netflix subscription. When I bought the Google Chromecast player, I simply plugged it into my TV. It was very easy to set up and connect to Netflix - that I was running via an app on my iPad. Now, not only can I very quickly download Netflix programs from my iPad to my TV via Chromecast, I have the ability to rewind, fast-forward and pause or stop a show, and immediately restart where I left off. After a few seconds of downloading at the beginning, the show is good to go. No more stopping to sync up. And, by the way, I did nothing to improve my network bandwidth. I highly recommend this product, particularly for people with Netflix streaming shows and movies!

The device itself is great and easy to set up. You do have to supply power through a micro USB cable which can either be plugged into the wall or a USB port on your TV if it has one. There is one aspect that I did not see in the bit of research I did before I bought this. You cannot stream any old web content from a smartphone to this device. A smartphone can only use the dedicated apps to send content to the device. A PC will allow you to display anything that you see in a Chrome browser but a smartphone will not. The reason is that the video encoding requirements to stream content to this device are pretty intensive and most phones cannot handle it while a PC can. The dedicated apps that you can use from a smartphone are not really streaming the content to the device rather, it is merely directing the content from the web straight to the device. There are many apps available (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) but you can't just fire up the Chrome browser on your phone and stream that content. Overall, I still say it is a great device and from what I found to be way better than the Push2TV device that I was using previously as that was over the air signal and not digital through my router like this device.

    • A. OH YES IT WILL!! You need an HDMI2AV adaptor. Sold online for about $20. The Chromecast plugs into 1 side and the output goes to 3 RCA plugs/ red, yellow, and white. I would also buy a power adaptor that accepts 2 usb power cables. The Chromecast uses 1 and the HDMI2AV uses 1. Do a youtube search and there are plenty of examples of this.
