Goody Simple Styles Bundle Pack Dark Hair 4.3 5 9 16
NOT for full 3b hair! I have a FULL head of 3b curly hair and expected some setbacks but hoped otherwise thanks to a previous review about these products working best for curly hair instead of straight fine hair. After using them, my hope dissappeared once my expectations were exceeded.First I used was the Modern Updo Maker which was VERY hard to get in and pressed VERY painfully into my scalp once into position. I got a lovely messy updo that lasted for hours but after a week my scalp is still sore! I figured out ways to get it in a less painful position but it kept falling out; sometimes immediately, others after a couple (2) of hours.Next I tried the Spin Pins, these work best for my hair but 2 pins simply aren't enough! I'm alright with a messy bun if it looks relaxed but when it seems like you've been in the wilderness for 2 weeks and haven't had time to fix your hair between bear fights it's too messy for me. Sadly, that is exactly what I ended up with when using 2 Spin Pins. It may be because I have some layers in my "just above bra strap" hair but I have to aid them with other pins to get a decent look. I would purchase another pair or 2 if they weren't so expensive. Right now, one pair is at least $6.95 +S/H (more than the Bundle Pack), too rich for my blood!Despite Goody's statement, the Pony Pouf Clip doesn't take all of my hair to make a ponytail but this I expected, what I did not expect was that even HALF of my hair is too much for the clip! It was such a hassle that I gave up and I still haven't been able to get it on though my hair had been stretched out in a bun for days so it was not curly (not curly means less volume so should've fit better). At crown position, the Volume Boost Comb made such a minimal difference that it went unnoticed; I tried closer to the front of my head but had the same problem. I finally obtained SLIGHTLY noticeable volume with a small amount of hair in front, the problem then was hiding the comb! Again, I simply decided to do without. As you can see, sadly, only "value for price paid" got 5* from me, which speaks better of the retailer than the product. I will continue to experiment since I already made the purchase but am DEFINATELY glad it was from Walmart for only $8.00 +FREE S/H TO HOME instead of $19.97 or more +S/H elsewhere. On the second use of each, the Updo Maker's round tips turned from dark brown to cream as the coating rubbed away and one of the Spin Pins widened at the bottom making the "next curl in the pattern" smaller than the rest so I can't boast of their quality though nothing has broken yet.Overall I give this 2* because though I wouldn't reccommend to anyone with lots of 3b curly hair, maybe someone with less hair or a different type (wavy or straight) could get better results if willing to risk the amount on the pricetag. 04/26/2011
love the spiral tools i have very thick hair so some of the tools do not hold my hair up. i think that they would work great on someone who does not have extremely thick or long hair. however, the little spiral tools that hold buns in place are AWESOME. they really do work even on my abnormally thick hair. 12/02/2011
Good deal to buy these in a combo pack These style aids are nice in a pack but too expensive to buy one at a time. Some are a little tricky to use, but YouTube is a great resource. Product is as described; very satisfied with this purchase overall. 08/08/2011
nice sample pack of Goody accessories My favorite item, hands down, is the Spin Pin. It is easy to use and does the job of several bobby pins. I already knew I would love it. However, I need more than one spin pin to hold my hair securely in a casual bun, so would have been disappointed if I didn't already have another on hand. I think two spin pins should come in this pack! (I am also really curious to try the Mini Spin Pin and wish one of those had come in this collection.)I also like the Modern Updo Maker. It took several false starts to figure out how to make it work, but now that I understand how to use it, I like it a lot. It allows me to construct a french twist that stays in place. It's especially handy to have this for for hot summer days to get my hair off my neck, but I can see using this year round.I found the Volume Boost Comb was about as effective as the bump-it products. Which is to say, of no use at all. I couldn't get it to stay in place. Thumbs down on this one. Useless. The Pony Pouf Clip was just ok. Although I had no problem pulling strands into the specially designed slots of the barrette to form a messy pouf as indicated, the barrette didn't hold my hair very well. The look was desirably sloppy but did not last. So, I am very satisfied with two products out of the four included, and very dissatisfied with the other two products. Considering what hair accessories cost and how I like to try the latest thing, it was worth it to spend $8 for this kit and get to try these out. But, since I am keeping two items I cannot return the kit, that makes the effective cost for the two I am keeping on the expensive side for drugstore-brand hair accessories, and I don't know who to give the other two items to, since I think they perform so poorly. 06/22/2011
