I've been looking around for an affordable good quality treadmill for about 2 months. After reading the reviews and seeing a model at Walmart, I went ahead and purchased this one and take the risk. I am 100% happy to discover that all the negative comments were inacurate. If you follow the instructions, it shows you exactly what to do to assemble this machine in less than an hour! ASSEMBLY: You will need a phillip screwdriver and an adjustable wrench. (Things everyone should have?). You will need a friend because it is heavy especially when you get to the part of connecting the belt portion to the legs. It took us 48 min to assemble only because my 2 year old keeps wanting to help. ;) After assembly, we plugged it in and I tried out one of the preset workout and was very pleased. The presets are very good and the machine very sturdy at high speeds. I am 5'8" and 185 lbs and I had no problem running on this and still felt like I had plenty of room. Im looking forward to using this treadmill everyday while it saves me an hour drive to the track! The console has room for the pair of 1lb weights that it came with as well as my water bottle, iphone, and even a book if you wish to walk and read. ACCESSORY: I also purchased a treadmill mat to go with this machine. It helps protect my carpet for when the treadmill is moving during its incline/decline adjustments. Highly recommend you grab 1 for $20 at walmart. If you want to fold the machine, the single locking pin is ok. However, I have no plans of folding this machine. It has its own corner facing the entertainment center so I can workout and watch TV if desired. For $377, it is definitely the best buy! It walks, it runs, it has manual and preset modes, a long belt for those long stride, wide enough with plenty of room for my size, air cushion is great on the knees, solid and very sturdy at high speeds! And most of all, its well under my budget!

    Sturdy Treadmill, Runs Smooth
    1/30/2011

    Customer review by BubDylan

    5.0 stars by BubDylan

I've only had the treadmill for a few days, but I really love it. I worked at a treadmill factory in the 90's where we made top end medical treadmills. And since then, I've always noticed how flimsy most personal treadmills feel when I walk on them. But this one feels really nice. It isn't shaky or cheap feeling, but really solid. The lowest speeds run smooth, which is kind of a litmus test for decent treadmills. I was prepared for a long, tough assembly because of the reviews here. I suppose if I hadn't had such an expectation, it might have seemed pretty involved, but I thought it was easy enough. I did it alone, but there is one step that I wish I'd had a helper on. But I still got it done. It did take over 3 hours, but I freed up an evening, put on some good music and really took my time. This isn't the sort of product with which you want to rush assembly. Follow the rules about not tightening stuff all the way until it says to. I'm very pleased with this thing. I weigh 275 (thus the treadmill purchase) and it doesn't struggle with me at all. Quiet and smooth. Be sure you pay attention to how to adjust the belt if it starts to shift to the left or right. It's easy to do, but you want to make sure you take a peek at it once in a while, especially at first until it gets in position well. I made one half-turn adjustment on it and that was all (so far). Happy running.

After researching the internet for several weeks looking at various treadmills I finally decided on The Gold's Gym 480 and have not been disappointed. My wife and I have been using it everyday for the past month. It is an excellent product that meets all our expectations. Assembly took about 90 minutes. The treadmill itself comes already assembled you just have to put together the control panel and side handle bars. Not difficult at all. When I purchased this last month shipping was only 97 cents to my home, what a bargain. Ignore all the negative reviews about treadmills under $500 and just buy this one. You won't be disappointed.

    • A. My husband and I purchased mine in store so I didn't go the delivery route. I can tell you that there are quite a few screws and bolts and it took my husband right at three hours to assemble which, from what I've seen, is average. Good luck and I hope that you enjoy. It is an excellent product.

    • A. I had it shipped to my home. You do have to be there and sign for it. It is a very heavy box so you will probably need help moving it. I had a hand truck and moved it around my house by myself and up a flight of stairs, although I would not recommend doing that . . . I could have easily hurt myself or let the hand truck slip and have it go crashing down the stairs. As far as putting it together I was able to do that on my own as well but should have waited for another person. For example, it would have been easier to put the handrails on if someone had been holding them in place while I tightened the screws. The good thing about this product was that all of the bolts/nuts/washers etc. are all packaged nicely and are numbered. The instructions were very clear so instead of having to know to get the 2 and 1/2 inch both vs. the 2 and 3/4 inch bolt . . . they are labeled to say use bolt number 3 here and washer number 6, etc. so you don't mix up sizes or sit there and guess. They give you an allen key to aid in putting the treadmill together but if you have a set of standard household tools (mallet, open ended wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.) they will come in handy. I hope this helps.

    • A. Not hard to put together, but I would defiantly get someone to help you. The box it extremely heavy. I put the treadmill upstairs, and getting it up the stairs was almost impossible even with 2 people. I think if you're planning on putting it in an upstairs room, I would take it up piece by piece rather that trying to push, pull, and drag the whole box.
