    Great Little Room Cooler

    Customer review by brittishie

    5.0 stars by brittishie

i bought it at my local store for $107 (cheaper then online) because at my apartments it has a VERY old swamp cooler that hardly cools off the back part of the apartment. &when i pulled it out of the box i was worried it may be too small to cool off my master bedroom since it says to cool a small room only. but too my surprise, it cools off the room VERY well! i have a fan that blows toward my door which helps it cool off the back part of the hall & small bathroom. i plan on buyin a second one for my sons room since it gets so hot in his room as well. totally worth buying! would definetly recomend it for any room, :)

    Great, Quiet, Cheap Little A/C

    Customer review by doodad69

    5.0 stars by doodad69

I bought this to replace a 10,000 BTU being used in a smallish, attic room. I went to WalMart looking for a Frigidaire with a remote, but all they had were this one and a few other ones. The one I replaced, which was only 3 years old, but in all fairness, a stupid bird had built a nest on one side of it, so it was sucking in that trash, so it probably only needs a good cleaning, was a GE and never really cooled that well anyway, so I was nervous about getting another one. I am glad I got this one. This one gets a little cool at night so I sometimes have to adjust it, but that's a good thing. It's whisper quiet, and to me, that's not really a good thing because I like white noise anyway. Sure it's cheaply built and only has a one-way air flow adjustment, but heck, it's less than $100 and the one-way adjustment hasn't proven to be a problem. If you're looking for something cheap and quick, and something that actually cools, get this. One thing though...the backing that goes underneath the top rail is wafer thin and when I was taking the backing off, it stuck to the top of the A/C and there's black junk where I had to tear it off. Be careful when applying it to the rail. The screws in the rail didn't want to seat very good, but I will get a #3 phillips to screw it in the rest of the way. Also, even though it's small, it ain't light! I had no problem with it, but a woman or weaker man might want to get some help lugging it up stairs, and if you have a high window, lifting it in. I'm a big feller that works out (I'm handsome too, just to complete the picture in your mind), and I thought it would be lighter because I had one-arm carried my daughter's 5,000 BTU Frigidaire from the car to her room without breaking a sweat. I hope the review serves you well. I don't know what the complaint about them being loud is all about, as mine is quiet as a church mouse. You're welcome.

    • the air flow is adjustable to either right or left, or center, and is quite strong on high setting. I run mine on low in a large room and it stays about 66-68 degrees in there with very little effort.

    • You can adjust the air flow either direction. Good air flow

    • this unit has a directional wheel so you can adjust where you want the air to go. The opening where the air comes out is on the top right of the unit.

    • It is adjustable left/right to a certain extent, but I wouldn't call it strongly directional either way.

    • Check the deflection deflects right and left (BARELY) but doesn't deflect the air up...look at the adjustment prior to buying

    • I have had this unit for two years and it blows out right or left or straight. It has a dial that directs air flow. The one thing it doesn't do is blow down. There is no way to adjust up and down air flow. It forces air upwards all the time. Hope I helped.

    • You're looking at about a 120-degree blow with the adjustment all the way right, which isn't that great in my opinion.

    • I have the same setup as you describe and airflow is adequate when turning the vent to blow toward the right. I use a fan as well to help circulate the cool air. Without a fan it still comfortably cools ~120 sq. ft. with no problem.

    • Yes,You can change the air flow. The unit has a scrolling flow director. But this unit isnt very powerfull in general

Does this unit turn off and on during the day? For example, if I turn it on before I leave for work in the morning will it run continously through the day or will it turn itself off at a certain point then turn back on when the area gets warmer?
    by an anonymous customer
    • No the unit won't turn off by itself. If you turn it on it will keep running untill you turn it off by turning the knob. However you could buy a timer that you use in your outlet and have that turn it on and off for you.

    • This is not an option with this machine. It has a dial that you regulate the air conditioner or just fan. You would have to go with a more expensive digital machine that has the auto mode set for a certain temp or one that has a timer.

    • No it stays on.

    • The unit does have a temp control feature. It is a coolness dial. You find what is a comfortable coolness temp and turn it back till it clicks the compressor off. When the temp in the room drops below that comfort zone it turns back on. This continues through out the day. The Air conditioner doesn't totally shut off. A fan keeps running during this time of cycles. Hope this answered your question. Had mine for two years now and it is a great little unit.

    • No. There are more expensive ones with remotes that have a power saver feature like that, but this one doesn't.
