Really nice A/C unit for the price.

This is a very nice A/C unit for the price. We set ours to energy saving mode and have not been disappointed with the cooling output so far. We purchased a tower fan to push the cool air into our kitchen and both rooms are cooling nicely so far! Just like any A/C unit when it is on high it can be a bit loud, but have to say that we have had louder in the past and in a lower BTU's. Overall, would completely recommend the unit for purchase!

The unit itself is great...my only problem is that when it arrived it had a broken piece that connects the control board to the unit....it was taped so it was shipped knowing it was broken....and the bottom of the unit has the finish worn off in a straight line that indicates it had been sitting on a window sill...thus giving good reason to believe this was not a new unit as it was sold to be......

A reasonably effective unit in terms of cooling in medium sized rooms. In which, smaller room size diminishes the buffer zone needed for what I consider a louder-than-neccesary air conditioner. Site-To-Store: Smooth transaction. Visual inspection satisfied my concerns of any possible exterior damage present. Unpacking at home verified this unit was handled with care. No damages. Installation day: By the time of day an install could be done, my inside temperature was 84 degrees. Within the first hour, it went from 84 to 74 degrees, Hour two the math was 74 to 70 with a strong stay at 71, mostly. At the three hour mark, the 68 degree target was reached. Not bad considering I have the misfortune of facing SWW which is a brutal direction for thermal captivation. All things considered, I believe this model definitely has the strength to satisfy the average customer's air cooling criteria. While running: Professionally installed (building requirement), the unit ran smoothly and balanced. No window shakers nor wall vibrations. Restarts were feather-like. The remote is simple to learn and use. As mentioned, the noise level of this unit is above average on the loud side. As it this is only my observation, the discharge port is a rather generous one so this leaves one with the "it's a good thing and a bad thing" scenario. A large port is helpful for expedient exchange, thus cooler quicker and helps out on the light bill a bit. The bad of it is GE really did nothing more than install a molded, uninsulated Styrofoam directional chamber that has no sound-deadening properties whatsoever. That said, the large port acts like a big speaker. Recommendation for this unit is difficult. Make your decision based on application first. It is indeed a unit worthy of handling your cooling needs within the recommended room area but I feel this unit would serve better in an on-site construction trailer or perhaps a garage. Any place a distraction/background noise is imminent but competing for your TV volume, I feel, is not one of those places. For the here-and-now, I have to vote no on recommending this based on I imagine most are looking for a living quarters application rather than supplemental or non-housing units. I'll stand by the assumption that I, too, will eventually adapt to the noise level but to do it over again, I would pass on this purchase and stand my ground with due diligence of application over sales prices. At purchase date, there were no reviews here for this model. I took the gamble, anyway. My last A/C was half this size and twice as quiet but could not be installed in my apartment due to not being an Energy Saver but this model most definitely brought a whole new level of chill to the game. Had GE done more inside with the noise, I would give this a glowing review with a high recommendation. As it stands, if you want it both ways, be prepared to spend more, most likely.

Cools well, but with a fast fan

I finally got the unit in the window a few days back- not terribly difficult, but it is fairly heavy as most in this size. It cools well, and the energy saver is a really nice feature that shuts the fan off with the compressor. It's all controlled by the thermostat and regulated with the remote or on the unit- very modern and seems well-made. The unit arrived with some very slight damage on side grates from shipping- lots of shipping damage reported in these reviews here.- store pickup might be a better option. What I'm not that happy with is the range of the cooling fan- specifically it does not go low enough, "low" is terribly fast and irritates a nervous condition I have a bit. It's not making strange noises, it's just that it whoooses too much and won't go lower. It could be more quiet with a slower running fan. It helps that it shuts itself off- but I wouldn't want it in the same room I sleep. I might like a bit more "white noise" all the time as oppossed to this which cools quickly but will shut down more often. Like the other units, it's a 30 day return, I'm debating whether to take it back and get a 10K BTU in hopes of a less intense fan. I wouldn't want to lose the energy saver feature though. The house I just moved into stays surprisingly cool, and I like it about 78 anyway. But it's only the end of April in Florida. It's the problem with internet ordering- one can't see and hear the units in comparison, and they only carry one in a box at Wal-Mart, which otherwise has the best prices on a/c.- this unit in particular is the most BTU for the buck. I hate taking things back. If you have a very hot place, this is a great unit. If you have less extreme needs, a 10000 BTU might be more econmical and quiet in the long run, but little savings on purchase. Whatever I end up with, I'm going to cut some particle board to block in the window around it, both for security, and to cut out the external noise of a rubbish facility down the street.

  • A. Yes. On Cool Mode the fan will run indefinitely as your temperature cycles as needed. Energy Saver Mode is used to optimize fan reduction use, usually stopping a few minutes after the compressor shuts off.
