    • A. No. It comes with the windshield suction mount, and a car charger. You can buy a mini-usb cable from www.walmart.com for $4.88. You'll need this cable to download and install your free map update.

    • A. No. It is a common USB cable, though--I think it's a "mini" USB on the GPS end.

    • A. No, it does not. This is an annoyance, because you have to purchase the mini-USB cable separately before connecting the device to a computer. However, you can get one inexpensively at any electronics store that sells mini-USB cables. You don't have to order the cable that Garmin sells on its website.

    • A. The Nuvi 255W does not come packaged with a USB to miniUSB cable but uses a very common connection that a lot of other devices use, such as digital cameras, camcorders, cell phones, etc.. So, you might already have that cable from another device that you already have.

    • A. It showed the speed limit on mine! Granted, you can't edit it in case it is incorrect, but it's nice down back roads. I wrote a review that details what it does more. :)

Purchased this primarily to make my way around San Antonio for a week. It performed great! After MUCH research, I had decided to pay the $20 or so more and get a gps with voice recognition so I could hear street names and for $89, the refurbished nuvi 255w was the best deal out there. It got us to and from our hotel and Lackland AFB flawlessly. It found the closest Walmart and our favorite places to eat throughout our trip. It took us right up to the Alamo. I downloaded the free map update from Garmin as well as some free POIs -- Walmart and Sam's across the US as well as our favorite dining establishments. It made locating them much faster than digging down through the Garmin loaded POIs -- though I did use them for some things and they were great. There are a few places in San Antonio where you have highways directly overhead or under you. It didn't know exactly which hwy I was on at those times but how could it...and it still put us on the correct hwy, it would just "recalculate" after it thought we were on the wrong one and then "recalculate" back to the right one a second or two later when we cleared the multiple hwys. I highly recommend the Garmin Nuvi 255W for its value and performance. I have zero complaints. I had the volume on 80% and found it plenty loud and left the brightness on it the factory settings and had no problems at all seeing or hearing directions. It located satellites very quickly. Don't be tempted to buy a low end gps for $69...pop the extra $20 and get the 255W. You won't be disappointed!

Purchased this as a refurb product for under $100, and it came good-as-new out of the box. I don't own a car (I just rent cars as needed for road trips out of NYC) and have never owned a GPS, yet the interface is so intuitive that I was able to navigate to various destinations without any problems and without having to read an instruction manual. This GPS is accurate to within steps of every location even in rural areas. It even navigated me to a great seafood restaurant in an unfamiliar rural neighborhood using its "locations of interest" feature. Now I can't imagine life without this little gadget. For $100, this was a steal. I highly recommend this product to anyone who needs an entry-level portable GPS for occasional trips. However, if you own a car and/or find yourself driving frequently, you might want to upgrade to a higher end model with advanced features (like a thinner/lightweight model, bluetooth, lifetime traffic, etc.)

The Garmin Nuvi is a great product not only for travelling, but also for local use. I especially like the spoken street names feature. I do not look at the device while driving, so the verbal response is most benefical. I highly recommend this product.

I had put off buying a GPS, waiting until I found a bargain. I knew I wanted a Garmin after seeing various reviews and the experience my friends had in the past. This Garmin makes travelling much easier. The voice mode can be set in a variety of languages or accents to help make it easy to understand the turn by turn instructions. The screen is larger than most to help with recognition. It can be reloaded with an updated chip or via the internet to keep up to date on road changes, construction, etc. It takes a little while to get used to, but it's very user friendly and can save you gas by giving you the right directions so you don't wander.

I've been using another automobile GPS and this one is far more useful for a variety tasks. It provides good driving directions and the extensive list of points of interest has been wonderful. I am also using the Nuvi 255w to assist in Geocaching. I'm loading GPX files on the Nuvi to give me driving directions to locations of Geocaches.

Large screen, easy to learn, and you can't beat the price for the refurbished units. Only complaint is typical of all GPS units, especially Garmin: doesn't handle rural roads and highways well. Highway or Hwy? County Road or CR?. You have to enter an address exactly the way they list it.

Garmin Nuvi 255w is a good product and is especially easy to operate for those of us who are electronically challenged. Was a little disappointed when it led us the wrong way to find a store one day and it was quite a hassle. Most times, however, it is good on directions and is a welcomed addition to our travels.

Although it was a factory reconditioned model I am not sure, it appeared to be new and unused. I was pleased to receive the unit well within the time frame given by Wal Mart. The unit works as intended and will suit my needs perfectly. jeffco

I was a bit leery of purchasing a refurbished unit, but the price of this made me decide to give it a go. I am VERY pleased with the product, and can not tell that it is not a brand-new unit. The Garmin GPSs are extremely user-friendly; my wife has no trouble operating it. Unit seems to run about 2 hours off the power source, which is plenty, since you'd not normally use it away from your auto, except maybe to enter destinations in the comfort of your home. We have found the Points Of Interest (POI) database to be very complete and EXTREMELY useful. The navigation is quite good, and seems fast to recalculate. The maps and POI database was about a year out of date when I got the unit, but I was able to log onto Garmin's website and update the firmware and maps and POI db easily enough (though the required USB cable is NOT included with this product, it is a standard USB cable (mini, I think)). Map updates are free for the first ?month? of ownership. The GPS came with a good window (suction) mount, and a power cord that plugs into a cigarette lighter/power plug. We did use the "dashboard disc"--a self-adhesive disk you can adhere to your dash if the window is not a convenient place to mount the GPS. It did not come with a USB cable to connect to a PC (as I said above), but it is a standard USB cable so should be easily found (you may already have one). Considering the price, you can't go wrong. How many state atlases can you buy for $89?
