Rated 3 out of 5★ by organicgarden Good unit for backyard gardening. Nothing fancy bu We have been using this particular compost bin for almost 10 years now. It has served us well. As long as we regularly turned the waste and kept it somewhat moist, we have good result. Last year the bottom door came off a couple of time, but as it is now a 10 yrs older unit ... We did reinforce the side by putting taller metal stakes, rather than the plastic ones that came with it. Beside the fact that it isn't a rotating composter, the only draw back would be that the bottom is open and the waste touches the ground. This has not be an issue so far, but it may be with rodent digging to get in (if you have rodent problem in your area).Overall it is a good unit for backyard gardening. Nothing fancy but it does the job. 08/02/2012
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Barb I would buy this again i use it to make compost for my own little garden, it's just the right size for a small family.the stakes could be stronger , I put my own in that are metal, otherwise it fell over with a strong wind. 05/28/2009
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Tomcycler Easist and Greenest backyard composter Mine is kept near back patio and in the sun for the heating, also I try to keep top 10 inches wet at all times in the summer, helps to keep bees and flies or hornets out, and spiders in so sometimes I must kill a spider or two. I work mine weekly and sift through the material and whatever doesn't make it through the 1/4 inch mess wire I use goes back onto the top of pile. I put oyster shells, animal bones, crustane bodies, and every bit of junk mail I can shred into it, there's some great microbes in there I must admit, and the Blackgold that comes out the bottom door is the best, I'll admit that the tiny doors on top are laborous and clumsy, I'm sure there's a better design, but remeber, it's not Racoon proof and now I need some new panels, they wanted the oysters!!!!!!!!!!! 02/17/2009
Rated 3 out of 5★ by Foothills Gardener 1Year After Purchase Review One year after purchase I am still using this but am actively looking for a better one. The sliding door where you remove the compost from is very difficult to keep in the tracks. I have disassembled and reassemble to try and fix this problem to no avail. Turning the compost within the unit is difficult too. The designer should have had a front and back door. The little doors in the lid are cute but not practical; remove the lid to best get items into the bin. This definitely needs to be located in a spot that gets all day sun (winter time works great; summer shade slows process down to a crawl.) 09/24/2009
