Bought this unit here. Worked great for two summers. Then as I fired it up this spring, only the fan worked--no compressor, no drying. It had been stored carefully in a room at 45 degrees all winter, so no abuse. Bottom line......it should last longer than two years. 20 years ago they did. I need another, but I am boycotting GE for now.

This GE 30 pint was purchased to replace the same devise that has been in use for 15 years and finally bit the dust. We run the dehumidifier in the bathroom when we shower and for a while after so we do not have to depend on the AC to bring down the Florida humidity. I shopped around and still like the reviews for the GE dehumidifier so I purchased this one. I plugged it in and it works as expected. My only disappointment is that the bucket is 1/4 the size of the old one so it must be emptied more frequently. I do like the level indicator on the front so it is no surprise when it is full.

I already have one of these and am now purchasing one for my son. It works great - I love how you can set the humidity level; I change it slightly from winter to summer. It also drains right into our sump pump area by attaching a small hose, therefore, needs very little attention. It tells you when to clean the filter which is very easy to do. I feel like it cleans the air - based on what dirt is in the filter. Highly recommend this model.

    Works well, but it's loud

This review is based on approx 1 month of usage only It seems to work well in an area the size of a fairly large living room. It's super easy to operate. Almost no setup required for this equipment, just removing tape (and connecting a garden hose if you decide to do that). The water collection bucket only holds a gallon of water. It does have a way to hook a garden hose up to it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Emptying and replacing the water collection bin is a cinch! The drawback is that it's VERY LOUD (much louder than my previous dehumidifier), so you will not want it running if you are trying to sleep or watch TV on same floor level. [If your basement is very large or and sectioned off with walls, you will probably need more than 1 unit. Two of these would be way too noisy to deal with.] The beep/alarm that is supposed to let you know when the water bin is full and the unit has stopped running is NOT loud at all so I find that feature useless. It was pretty heavy for me to lug into my house and down into the basement - so if you're a lightweight or elderly, you'll probably want help for that. The filter is just a little screen that's pretty much like a lint filter on a clothes dryer - very easy to remove and replace - appears to be easily cleaned (haven't had to clean it yet).

    • A. Yes, it does. And the bucket full indicator will light up as well. There's also a 2 hrs or 4 hrs time setting. Else, you can leave it runs till the bucket is full or till you shut it off. Hope this helps. I like it very much, except it can be a little noisy. I usually set it on before I leave for work, and check it when I return home.
