#1 "NEW YORK TIMES" BESTSELLER
From beloved food personality Bobby Deen, son of Paula Deen, comes an irresistible new cookbook featuring 120 recipes of Southern comfort-food classics--all under 350 calories and jam-packed with flavor.
Raised on his mother's fried chicken and hoecakes, Bobby Deen ultimately found himself, as a young man, twenty-five pounds overweight. Unwilling to sacrifice any of his favorite foods, Bobby started tweaking the recipes he grew up on, replacing sour cream with nonfat yogurt, using lower-calorie versions of mayonnaise, cream cheese, and other high-calorie items. Even Paula herself sometimes couldn't tell the difference between the lo-cal versions and her originals--since the flavor remained top-notch.
Here you'll find a soup-to-nuts collection of many of the great dishes and flavors you've come to enjoy and expect from the Deens, but with a lot fewer calories. Every recipe has been reviewed and approved by a certified nutritionist. Yes, you can have your Gooey Less Butter Cake and eat it too . . . along with such selections as
"It's a Party Guacamole - Easy Ginger-Glazed Spare Ribs - Yes You Can Mac and Cheese - Cheeseburger Casserole - Old-Fashioned Meatloaf - Crispy Oven-Fried Chicken - Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Apples - Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes - Bittersweet Chocolate Cheesecake - Strawberry Streusel Cake"
In addition to all these mouthwatering recipes and 65 full-color photos, you will find before/after fat and calorie counts (so you know just how many calories you're saving)--plus a week's worth of 1,500 calorie/day menus, celebration menus, healthy prep tips, weight-loss shortcuts, ideas for stocking a healthy pantry/fridge, and a section on easy high-fat/low-fat ingredient swaps.

About the author

Biography of Deen, Bobby

Bobby Deen was born on April 28, 1970 in Albany, Georgia. He is a television cook, TV personality, and restaurant manager. He is best known as one of the sons of Paula Deen, and together with his brother, Jamie, runs her restaurant, The Lady & Sons, in Savannah, Georgia. He also frequently appears on her shows, Paula's Home Cooking and Paula's Party. He and Jamie had their own show, Road Tasted, starting July 11, 2006. The Deen brothers eventually decided that they wanted to devote more time to their family restaurant, and thus did not continue on as hosts of "Road Tasted". In 2012, Bobby Deen debuted his own cooking show, Not My Mama's Meals, on the Cooking Channel, in which he tweaks his mother's recipes to recreate them in a healthier manner. His title From Mama's Table to Mine: Everybody's Favorite Comfort Foods at 350 Calories or Less made The New York Times Best Seller list for 2013.

Rated 5 out of 5★ by Great Food Dont watch Bobby or Paula but, my first time buying a cookbook and actually using it. My husband and I decided to eat healthier by cooking at home more often. He is a picky eater, and so far the dinners I have cooked he has really enjoyed. Cheeseburger Casserole(dill pickles do make a difference wow!), Baked Spaghetti, Fried Chicken, and Pulled Pork are wonderful, Tonight is Pork Chops! I have noticed we fill up quicker and dont go for seconds. Maybe because the meals are not processed and full of other junk. I use everything fresh, wash the veggies from the local market. The food taste healthier it is weird. So glad I bought the book, I'm sure we will not like all of the recipes, but so far the above ones we will cook again. We eat more onions and garlic and tomatoes, now than we ever have. In the evening we have had just a bowl of plain popcorn for our snack. Glad I bought the book. Thank you Bobby Deen. 07/27/2013
