Very happy with this purchase. I had to search other sites for sufficient reviews to understand exactly what I was getting. I have an upstairs master bedroom that won't cool down. It's fairly large, with a connected bathroom that has an open doorway. So I'm pretty sure it's closer to 200 square feet than 150, which this unit is rated for. I wasn't sure it would do the job. It does take a few hours to cool the room down from a hot level, but it gets it done. Now that I run the unit regularly, it cools it down much quicker, since it doesn't reach the heat levels of before. Oh, and there really is no water venting needed. Do not open the bottom tube, just set the unit to a/c and vent the hot air outside. This thing uses 'evaporative cooling'. The air vent took some time to get right, but this was the way to go for me. I have windows that almost reach the floor. A window unit would not work that well for me. This is perfect. The timer start function is useful. I set it for 8 hours and it's cooling down when I return from work. Timer is tricky, has to be off when you set it, contrary to instructions, which are a bit confusing. I don't use the remote, no need to. All the buttons on the machine itself do what I need and at a comfortable angle to reach. Bottom line: well worth the expense and safe to order even though all you can see in the pic is a white blob. If you research this, you'll notice some negative reviews. These I think are from people with zero technical skills. Yes, you DO need to be a guy that can read instructions, lift heavy objects and use a screwdriver. It's not light to carry upstairs. But once there, it rolls on its wheels very easily. I'm satisfied enough to have thrown out the box it came in.

I purchased 2. The box implies they can handle a room about 100-150 sqft. I'd say that's accurate. They are not loud (as some I purchased in the past were#. They blow out very cold air. The room needs to be sealed. The digital controls, remote, and advanced automatic functions #timer etc# are worth the money. I'd buy these again - provided they are well matched to the room and overall outside temperature. Very good looking and well sized units #not bulky or tiny#. For the price we paid and the fact that we're renters, I think they are good #don't want to be fitting window units#. The window kit was easy to use and we just used masking tape to seal it #instead of supplied foam seal).

A quiet, cool machine with installation issues.

Once installed, this air conditioner certainly does cool down the space that it was purchased to cool. However, be forewarned that the installation requires some basic do-it-yourself experience and tools, not to mention some ingenuity. The instructions on installation don't tip you off to this. The most difficult task is installing the plastic exhaust hose. The instructions suggest that you simply have to slide the ends of the hose into the back of the unit and into the window exhaust hole. The hose is too heavy to remain in place and will fall out of position. We tried taping the hose in place, but even the tape couldn't keep the hose in place. Finally, we secured the hose to the mounting ring on the back of the unit with self-tapping screws. If you have ever installed rain gutters, you are familiar with this technique. The next issue was what to do about condensation. There are two drains in the unit, but only one length of plastic hose about 12" long is provided. To cover any contingency, we placed the unit on a stand about 6" off the floor and placed a 4" deep plastic tray behind it. This is only practical if you can easily get the tray in and out of the space. We have no idea how much water will accumulate over any period of time. This will clearly have to be determined with use. We have used the unit twice on warm days, but with relatively low humidity, and it performs efficiently and fairly quietly. It remains to be seen how it will perform when the real heat and humidity of east-coast summer days arrive in ernest!

    • Theoretically, Yes, but there are a few things you will need. If all your windows are the exact same size then the same plastic panel for the exhaust tube will work on all windows. If your other windows are of different sizes then you will need to order additional plastic panels for the other windows. All you will need then is some additional Grey rubber adhesive tape which goes permanently below the plastic panel and some black foam lining which goes on the top portion of the sliding window between the two window panes. You can purchase the tape and foam from any hardware store or HVAC supplier.

    • Only if you don't screw the window thing into the window. And it still will be a pain in the butt.

    • Yes the unit can be moved from room to room. However, the plastic piece that fits on the window sill to allow the flexible tubing to vent the air outside the room is another matter. I wouldn't want to constantly move the plastic window piece from window to window.

    • If you slide the exhaust hose off, which is easy. You can push it into another room to cool it, and back to reconnect.

    • Yes, however the window part would need moved too. It is easy to install, but I put some foam with adhesive backing on parts that looked like it had a gap. So you may need to purchase some extra foam if you plan to uninstall from one window and put in another window.
