Rated 1 out of 5 by quiltman smells so bad can't stay indoors This may be a good product but I may never know because the smell is so pungent that I keep it in the garage. It has even contaminated my garage with its odor. 04/23/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by DAGP This product smelled!!! I would not order this product again! When I received it from Walmart it was rolled up in the box even though on the product tag it stated to "store flat" so it would not lay flat, but the worst part was the product smelled terrible. I had read the reviews and some said it smelled and other said it didn't so I figured since I needed it to use my rotary cutter I had to give it a chance. The smell was terrible, I could not be in the same room with it! I had to check with the manufacturer and other blogs to find out how to get rid of the smell. Well, as of this date I have tried spraying it with Febreeze, spraying it with white vinegar(neither helped at all), soaked it in my tub for 48 hours in hot water and dish liquid w/lemon(changing the water after 24 hours), soaking it did help a little and did flatten out the mat to the way it should be but I have now resorted to hanging it outside on my patio 24 hours a day for the past 5 days and the smell is almost gone. I am hoping that within the next week the smell will be gone. I figured at this point what did I have to lose, from what I have read after the fact, all the self healing mats have a smell and some are worse than others so you have to take your chances. I wish I could review the product on performance but as of this review, I have not had a chance to use it. I had even thought about going to the store and seeing if the ones in the store smelled and returning the one I ordered but after reading the reviews from people who purchased it at different stores, they said that it didn't smell in the store but once they got it home and in a much smaller space, it smelled as well. I hope this mat lasts a long time because I am sure not buying another one! 07/22/2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by SisterDi Not self-healing The price is low, but you get what you pay for. I am on a budget, and I needed to replace a warped Olfa mat that I was given to start quilting. This has been useable, but after 3 quilts, there are grooves all over it. I can still use the other side, which is also gridded, but I will be purchasing a better mat next time. This would work for a beginning quilter, or someone who doesn't want to invest too much money in tools right away. I wasn't put off by an odor like the other reviewer, but I know to expect such things from plastics. 05/26/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by trendytree Excellent product! Love this mat! No problems, no smells, lies flat and doesn't slip around and amazingly you can't see where the cuts where made using a rotary cutter to cut your materials.Plus....we have the backside to use once we wear out the front side....this should last us a while in our shop. We use the mat for cutting Deco Poly mesh, paper mesh and poly burlap that we use to make wreath tutorials for our business www.trendytree.comVery happy with the product and the price! 05/18/2013
