Very disappointed in Fellowes W-6C Shredder. The suggested "cross-cut", is actually a "short", long cut. Was expecting a tighter cross-cut effect. I guess, I didn't read the fine print. I thought I was getting a shredder with a pull out basket, instead, I got a shredder, whereas, you have to take the shredder top, off the basket, and this makes for a very messy, shredding all over the place. A lot of the shredding is also left inside the blades. Not a clean machine. I can't more than 3-sheets through the shredder, before it heats up. If I try to put more than 3-sheets through, the unit will slow down to a crawl, and sometimes, doesn't go into the shredder straight, and eventually binds the shredder to a stop, and over heats also.

My old unit that I replaced was the WC-11 11 sheet so was skeptical if this would be sufficient to get the job done. Working great and the see through collection basket (which the old one didn't have) is so convenient for a quick visual when it's needing emptied. I highly recommend using the special lubricating oil to enhance the performance and longevity of the unit.

After reading previous reviews I was leery of purchasing this shredder. I have found that all problems noted could have been avoided by others by reading & following the manual instructions. One thing not in instructions is you have to place the shredder facing the correct way on the bin. If you don't hear a click it is either facing the wrong way or not fully seated & won't work. Use oil as instructed & watch the shredded paper level. It will stop working when full. It will also stop working after 4 consecutive minutes of shredding to prevent overheating (like it says in the manual). After a 3-4 minute break it goes right back to normal operation. It works great when used properly. It is for light use at home & does the job that it's built for. Please unplug when not in use & don't leave plugged in even when you step away to let it cool. A child or pet could turn the power switch on easily. I am very happy with my shredder & highly recommend it for light use at home.

I purchased the W-6C Shredder. It has been doing the job for small shredding loads. It does get warm and need 20 minute cool downs when Shredding for a few minutes at a time for a couple hours. The Oiling Instructions seems a bit much ( oil after every bucket full? ).That is crazy. I can fill it in 5 minutes. 7.99 For oil. It would be WELL LUBED, but pricey. It works good as long as you oil it alot and let it cool down at times. I'm getting ready to tackle a four drawer file cabinet full of 20yr old files.I better go easy with that load. This W-6C Does the job of a larger type for sure. You will be pleased with it.

This is an excellent product, for use in your home office. It does what it says. Only thing is, if you are going to be shredding a lot of paper, you have to keep emptying the bin. (Not that annoying, unless you are shredding two big file drawers, like I did!) Also, paper gets stuck in the gears from time to time, but nothing to damage the machine. Every time I empty the bin, I just pull out the loose papers from the gears. UNPLUGGED though! You don't want to lose a finger! Overall, I love this shredder though! :-)

    • A. On the top, there's a switch. It has Auto, Off, Reverse. Put the shredder in reverse and use an oil can from side to side to lightly oil the blades. The blades are metal on metal, and need some lubrication to help keep them from dulling. I couldn't find a recommended schedule, I will oil mine every other time I empty it. As far as oil, you can use sewing machine oil, light machine oil or Fellowes sells a Fellowes branded oil at a premium price. I recommend not using an aerosol can.

    • A. To oil the blades unplug shredder, use the oil along the blades. The oil keeps the blades moving smoothly.

    • A. Never heard of that either but the information booklet says ""set machine to off, apply oil across entry, set to reverse for 2-3 seconds. It states not to use spray oil. from the picture I would assume that 3 in 1 oil should work. Of course, they sell their own oil!!.
