Book Information

The following content was provided by the publisher.
Ray Bradbury's internationally acclaimed novel Fahrenheit 451 is a masterwork of twentieth-century literature set in a bleak, dystopian future.
Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden.
Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family." But then he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn't live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television.
When Mildred attempts suicide and Clarisse suddenly disappears, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known. He starts hiding books in his home, and when his pilfering is discovered, the fireman has to run for his life.

Review by Library Journal (2003-11-15)

This quality hardcover of the Bradbury standard is being released to honor the book's 50th anniversary. With numerous book clubs adopting this title, it's worth buying a few hardbacks to go along with your existing paper editions. This reprint also includes a new introduction by the author.

Customer Product Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5★ by 7reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Book purchase Book in excellent. Service and pick up excellent. No complaints. 07/11/2012
Rated 2 out of 5★ by Disappointed I ordered this book for school, unfortunately having to use a gift card I had received as a birthday present. What a waste of money. I got the book today, and while opening it, I noticed black marks all over the cover. Upon further inspection of the book, I found more markings on the back. I will still use this for school, seeing I have no other option. But I am not happy and it was not worth the waste of my gift card. 01/17/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Excited to read! Got my book only a few days after ordering and it is in perfect condition. I can't wait to read this book, I've only heard good things, but I've only made it to chapter 1. Will definitely order books through Walmart.com again. 05/19/2014
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Great This book is very useful for my daughter who is in Middle School. 11/04/2013
Rated 3 out of 5★ by A good read. Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian tale of a fireman, Guy Montag, who wakes up the reality of his actions. Along the way, he encounters those that the State regards as dissidents and the keys to the future that they hold. While this story was written in the 1950s, the relevance of its message is just as sobering, just as powerful, in 2013 as it was six decades ago. This was the first Ray Bradbury book that I have read, and I was not disappointed. 09/30/2013
