Why would anyone want them open at the ankle? If it is cold enough for me to wear sweats... the last thing I want, is POLAR/ICY/COLD WIND WHIPPING STRAIGHT UP leg of my pants. BRRRRR! Keep the elastic bottoms.

I, personally, prefer elastic at the bottom to help keep the chill out. Yes, the pockets are quite deep enough for a phone, even an I-phone.

The pockets are big enough for my LG smartphone.

I keep my phone in the pockets and so far not had a problem, the pockets seem deep enough.

There are types that don't have the elastic at the bottom if you look thru the site. If you don't mind sewing a bit, just a few stitches, you could just remove the elastic?

I AGREE THAT "PANT LEG" W/NO ELASTIC IS PREFERABLE...POCKETS, of ANY SIZE RARE & I FIND DEPTH ADEQUATE for EVERYDAY USE..

I prefer them to have open hem at ankles because stretch has a tendency to make My feet swell and that is the most uncomfortable feeling. Pockets are also a must for me. They don't put pockets on a lot of the women's pants for tall's so only way I can get them long enough and with pockets is to wear my husbands.

The depth of the pockets are not that good anymore.  I purchased these sweatpants in 2014, 2015 and 2016.  In 2014 the pockets were deep.  Now, in late 2016 they are at least 1 inches less in depth. My glasses fall out of my pocket very easily now when I sit in a chair.  So does my wallet. They didn&#39;t fall out back in 2014. Very disappointed.

Walmart.com does offer Fruit of the Loom sweatpants with a cuff at the bottom instead of elastic.  I prefer the elastic.  Browse the website and you will find them right near the elastic bottom sweatpants.

Has two front pockets, that are fairly deep , No back pocket however...

I only got the Medium. Waist measurement is 29", lying flat on the bed. Remember, these have 3 full bands of elastic around the waist, and those bands total almost 2" from the top of the waist, down. (Does that make sense?) Also, they have a nice, thick, drawstring that fits inside the elastic, so can be made even tighter. Sorry, couldn't help with the small size.

Washed and unstretched, Medium is 24in waist, but stretches comfortably to 34 (my size).

THE PANTS ARE SIZE LARGE MY HUSBAND WEARS A 40" WAIST AND THERE'S PLENTY TO SPARE

Don't know about small, but medium is 34 - 36

The mediums are 27" but very stretchy and have a drawstring. They are 70% cotton so the 27" is after being washed several times.

I have a 30" waist and the small is perfect

The small has a waistline of 25" ... and has very little give ... so you might get another inch out of it.
