  • A. Need a drivers permit? Probably not. Most states don't require a driver's license for electric bikes that have a top speed under 20mph and a power-rating under 740 Watts. In California, the Department of Motor Vehicles has a driver's handbook with a page on this question that gives the latest numbers, laws, and information. At 450W, 12 mph, this bike is well under those limits. Keep in mind that 450 Watts is a lot more than a half-horsepower, and more than a cyclist with strong legs can pump-out. Also keep in mind that 12 mph is about as fast as you would normally want to cruise on a comfort-bike like this one. Above 20mph, one needs to be very alert, quick, and responsive.

  • A. I don't believe you would need a drivers license for this, I would check with your local BMV though just to make sure. I'm pretty sure because the motor is so small it isn't classified as needing a license.

when this comes in a box what will i have to put together will the front tire and the handle bars be off
by tgerfers46 2/27/2012

  • A. Front tire, seat, and handle bars, and adjust front brakes, as well as put air in the tires. Takes about 1 hours if you are used to putting these types of things together, otherwise a few hours, as you will want to read the book first and get familier with the parts.

I LUV my new Ezip Electric Bike! (5 stars!) I needed ultra-LOW-COST transportation, after moving, unexpectedly! My EZIP has plenty of power, charges quickly & easily, and amazingly, "EVERYTHING" works, p.e.r.f.e.c.t.l.y. What I really like, is how my route INTO town runs almost entirely on a downward slope, SO, with my Currie-Electro-Drive & it's "Freewheel" - I don't even have to TURN-ON P.o.w.e.r., until COASTING almost the entire 4 MILES.., saving me lots & lots of energy, for my Return-trip home! I'm already "customizing" my "ride" having installed a large basket, for my doggie! - I'm ordering a springy Cruiser seat, 2nd battery, waterbottle, & lights, too! - I've also pulled-OFF all-of-those Decals & Stickers.., now displays, a classic Scooter-Bike LOOK! (beep! beep!) BEST-PART - my doggie LUVs riding in my new EZip, too! (back-seat puppy!)

I bought this bike a few weeks ago and wish I would have bought it years ago. I saw a picture in my local Walmart for an electric tricycle and did some research and found the tricycles are not being sold at this time but found the Ezip electric bike and purchased it. In the 3 weeks that I've owned the bike I have gone over 50 miles and love it. I don't see well enough to drive but have no problems riding the bike to town which is 5 miles one way. The battery so far has been pretty good, I got around 16 miles out of 1 charge. On a flat service I got the speed up to 15.8 mph without peddling. The only issue I had was when parked for a while and the battery is left on, it will not turn on, you have to shut the power button off and turn it back on so it is best to turn the button off while parked. The on/off button is in the rear behind the battery holder and a bit awkward. I didn't care for the seat so I bought one without the nose, which is way more comfy.

I am a male, 52 years old. I bought the Trailz Step Thru bike because i have bad arthritis in my knees and back. This bike makes it so much easier for me to get on and off of it. I have had one person question it, i told him it is a "unisex" bike. He went out 2 days later and bought one. I like mine very much. It has a nice cruising speed, and its very easy to pedal with or without using the Pedal Asst. feature. Having fun riding around town with mine..

First, the cons: It weighs A TON. I got a second battery after the first time I ran out of juice on a ride, because getting home without one was not fun. Try not to drop it, either. I'm a small but fit female and I have difficulty lifting the thing. The tires are a pain. They're wide, and the rear one has all the electric drive stuff in the way if you need to change it. Being able to do your own basic bike maintenance will save you a lot of money, because the bike shops will make you pay out the nose to work on it. I put slime in my tires, and watch where I'm putting my wheels. I'm still looking for bags that fit. The rack-mounted batteries make it too wide to accept most panniers, and all the extra cables in the front make mounting handlebar baskets near impossible. Pros: When we became a one car family last year, this became my primary mode of transportation. I found a used two kid bike trailer, and the three of us go everywhere on this thing- to the park, to the store, to appointments. With the pedal-assist I can tackle hills with no problem, even hauling the trailer. Of course, mine cost about three digits less when I bought it last year, but that's inflation for you I guess. All told, I'm glad I got it- no car payments, no gasoline bill, cheaper maintenance than a car, and I'm in better shape.
