About the author

Biography of Hay, Louise L.

Louise L. Hay grew up in an unstable and poverty-stricken household. After years of abuse, Hay ran away from her Southern California home and ended up in New York City. There she met and married a wealthy businessman and began a career as a model. When her marriage ended 14 years later, Hay began the long journey toward healing her childhood woes. In 1970, Hay attended a meeting at the Church of Religious Science and began training in the ministerial program.

She soon found herself counseling clients. Through her work as a Science of Mind minister, Hay compiled a reference guide detailing the mental causes of physical ailments and positive thought-provoking ways to cure them. The compilation, entitled Heal Your Body, is also known as "The Little Blue Book". After moving back to her native Southern California in 1980, Hay wrote and published the book You Can Heal Your Life. A guide to changing thinking to maintain a better life, the book reached the New York Times bestseller list, remained there for 12 consecutive weeks, and sold more than 3 million copies in 30 countries throughout the world.

Other Hay books, including Empowering Women and Life! Reflections on Your Journey, have been translated into 23 languages. Hay founded Hay House, Inc., in 1984. Beginning as a small venture in the living room of her home, it became an internationally successful corporation which has sold more than 10 million books and tapes since its inception. Some of the authors represented by Hay House include Dr. Wayne Dyer, Dr. Barbara De Angelis, and Stuart Wilde. Louise Hay brings us another gem of a book filled with superb little nuggets of wisdom that if practiced can help pave the way to better thoughts which will ultimately lead to a better life experience. Louise Hay has firsthand knowledge of what is teaches. She healed herself with many different forms of alternative medicine and her own “mental work” from a cancer diagnosis many years ago.Louise defines an affirmation as:“Every thought you think and every word you speak is an affirmation.”Louise’s words speak to our souls and offer gentle loving guidance as how we should talk to ourselves on a daily basis, replacing our self defeating thoughts with new patterns of better serving beliefs as it relates to health, fear, critical thinking, addictions, forgiveness, work, money and prosperity, friends, love and intimacy and aging.Each chapter is eloquently laid out and begins with a checklist of sometimes all too familiar negative statements that we say to ourselves, probably without much thought, which is why she wants us to begin to identify the way we think about ourselves so that we can begin the healing process. Next she introduces several exercises to help us further examine why we may have the beliefs that we have and where they may have originated from in preparation to release those old negative beliefs. She then takes the reader on a journey back to those original negative statements and transforms them in a new positive affirmation, giving the reader clear examples of how they can start to affirm the good and not focus on the bad. Here are a few examples of a negative thought pattern transformed into a positive affirmation:Heart dis-ease runs in my familyI am not my parents. I am healthy and whole and filled with joy.I’d do it if I weren’t so fat.I appreciate the wonder of my body.It’s all my parents fault.My parents treated me in the way they had been treated.I forgive them- and their parents too.Why does everyone else have money?I have as much money as I can accept.She then ends each chapter with a Treatment, which is a longer more detailed and beautifully flowing affirmation. You cannot help but feel the shift in energy when you are done with each chapter.Her style is well thought out, organized and easy to follow. Each chapter is methodical in its delivery of the information and a perfect find for the newbie to affirmations or the seeker who would like to expand their practice. The book come with an enclosed CD to listen to in the car or whenever you feel like you need a shift from negative to positive.If you have ever been skeptical or thought “affirmations don’t work”, well Louise would say to you that that is an affirmation and one that may not be serving your highest good.
