    Very impressed with performance

Today is Sept. 26, 2012. I just bought this battery. The one it replaced was the same model. I purchased it in March 2006. So, it far outlasted it's warranty time. Also of note: The old battery had a dead cell, and was only putting out 10 volts. It still, however, started my car (slow cranking of course) every time for over 2 weeks. Now, that's pretty good!

Rated very high by Consumer Reports

So I have just purchased this battery and everything went great. The N after the 35 is to designate it is for the colder Northern Climates. A 'S' is for the warmer southern states, It was tested by Consumer Reports and it was rated very high overall and in the cold cranking amps. Since I live near Chicago it can get quite cold. This battery is an upgrade to my Wifes 2009 Honda Accord coupe which has a size 51R. The 51R size seems a little under rated. We have had her old battery not be enough power to start in the cold or if the car was not used for about 7 days. She does have a remote start installed which does costantly draw some power. I wanted this larger 53N battery in hopes to fix both issue. To install this 53N battery in the Honda a differnt bracket is needed ,Honda part number *31512-S0X-A00* which can be purchaed at the dealer for a few dollars. No other parts needed, even the plastic shield fit over this battery. Hope this helps someone. For me the average battery life has been around 5 years. I will post my results on this one.

Battery only lasted 3 years but free replacement

Battery went bad right at the 3 year mark but Walmart replaced it with an exchange battery even though I had lost the receipt. They did honor the warranty with the date code punched out on the battery. The store I went to in Secaucus NJ did not have the battery on the shelf, even though the online search said it was in stock. The customer service rep told me to go back and ask the associate at the auto department to make sure they didn't have one in the back because they could not give me a cash refund, only an exchange, since I did not have the original receipt. The other option would be to find another Walmart that had one in stock. I finally found an associate and assistant manager and they searched the back stock room and found the " warranty " battery that did not have the retail label on it with no date code on top , and I was able to get e free replacement! They issued a new receipt with the original date of purchase 10/2010, so that this battery would only be "pro Rated" for the final 2 years, but I am Extremely happy with Walmart !

Why doesn't wallmart differentiate between models MAXX-35N & MAXX-35S. There is no difference indicated in either batteries description! It would also make sense for walmart to have the Everstart battery chart linked to this site. Obviously, this would make picking out the correct battery & purchasing it, a whole lot easier. I'm quite sure this would dramatically increase their sales in this time of poor economic conditions in our country.

    • The designation "N" means North as in the region of the country you live in, " S" means South. The batteries have a different amount of "CCA", Cold Cranking Amps, according to the climate you live in. The colder the climate, the more Amps. In the North, the Maxx35N has 640 CCA, cold cranking amps, the Maxx 35S has 500 CCA, since it would not be exposed to temperatures below freezing temperatures on a regular basis, ie during Winters. Here is a hint I learned from Car Talk Radio.... Contrary to popular belief, when you are in a frozen environment, in unusually cold temperatures, turn on your headlights, or turn the key to RUN position, without trying to start. Then turn off for 10 to 20 seconds and then try to start the engine. This will "excite" the electrons in the battery and get the juice flowing. You might have to hold the key in start position, and let it crank for longer than usual, but it worked for me.

    • N (north) is designed for cooler climates, and S (south) for warmer climates.
