I put one coat on the back of 3 very slippery rugs in my kitchen. The directions called for 2 thin coat, but the second coat was'nt needed, fast drying easy to work with.

I have a few throw rugs in my kitchen that have no backing and move about. Plus, with each wash a few more strands of yarn unravel. I looked high and low for this product. I had used something similar years ago. It says it will cover 15 sf. with 2 coats. I barely got 2 small throw rugs covered with one coat. So I ordered more, I have 2 more rugs to go. Actually, I found one coat seems to work just fine, but will add a second coat anyway. Now they stay in place and no more loose yarn. YEA!

I've been using this product for 25+ years and still have most of my original throw rugs! This is a product that DuPont doesn't want you to know about. I recommend painting over the white backing of every new throw rug you buy. Years later, when that white backing separates from the rug, you can carefully rip that off and repaint again with Fiber-Lok.

For those of you who have used this product...do you think it would worked as a backing for knitted slippers? I have used that tool handle dip it stuff (hard to find colors other than black) and some stuff that is called ABS Latex for this, the abs is expensive. I was just wondering if it would be able to be hand washed and does it dry to a flexible material, too?
    by OneMtGirl 8/8/2011
    • No. It will not last long, and cannot be washed.

    • Since the products dries and remains very flexible I would think you could use it on knitted slippers, especially if you hand wash them. Just make sure to apply it in a very well ventilated area...the product really stinks. I did it outside.

    • It should work fine on the bottoms. Yes, it can be washed and it does dry flexible. It is a thin latex rubber coating. I put it on the bottom of a pair of socks to make them non-slip.

    • It does dry to a flexible sheet of material. I used it on the back of a hand-crafted latch hook rug I made using strips of old t-shirt for my son's dorm room and it worked fine. It works great as a non-skid for the rugs, so if that's what you want on slippers I'd think it'd work well there too. I've seen some commercial slippers with dots of non-skid, you could do that, or coat the entire bottom. Just be sure to stuff the slippers with some wax paper or foil or something before you apply it. It looks and feels about the consistency of Elmer's glue when you open the jar and work with it.

    • I think it would be great for the bottoms of slippers; it will hold down any loose strands of yarn, too. I know it's washable, but don't know how it dries, as we haven't washed the rug we put it on yet. Just remember to do two thin coats instead of one thick one. Good luck!

    • Yes - I think it would work great. Just remember to brush it on lightly as the label suggests, 2 light coats are better than 1 heavy coat.
