I had the hardest time finding this anywhere but on Walmart.com - and any other website priced it much higher, though I still think it is too much for what it is and, now that I've used it, too much for how little it covers. Several other reviews claim it covered many kitchen rugs with two "thin" coats for all of them. First, a "thin" coat (as I would define it) isn't possible. The product has the texture of Elmers glue, but to cover the bottom fabric of a rug, the coat needs to be rubbed in and built up to a medium or even thick layer to bridge all the bumps and grooves. I was able to apply one coat each to a 2 foot half circle kitchen rug and and a 3x2 foot kitchen rug. [these are older rugs where the original backing had flaked off] I still had a third rug to do so now I have to get another jar. Maybe now that I have one dried coating that has "smoothed" the surface a "thin" coating will be possible... I still recommend the product - I just find the other reviews to be misleading.

I have used this product off and on for many years. The first time I remember using this type of product was as a "paint-on" non-skid backing for one of my girl's home made latch hook yarn rugs or wall hangings. Advance 20 years or so and I remembered this product when I needed to redo the non-skid backing on one of our floor rugs. Multiple washings had finally destroyed its original backing. This product, which I used to purchase at a local craft store, can be brushed onto the underside of any rug which had lost its non-skid backing. After cleaning (peeling) off the old worn-out backing, two lights coats (up to 12 hours apart) of this rug backing provide more years of use for rugs which have only lost their backing. I love this product! It has allowed me to keep using some of my favorite throw rugs, while still having the safety of the non skid backing. And Walmart had the best online price of any merchant - especially with the free in-store pickup service.

    Fiber-Lok Non-Skid Rug Backing
    5/17/2016

The backing on my favorite Kitchen Rooster Rugs was shot! I knew there had to be a product that I could paint on the back of these rugs to give them the grip they once had. After doing some research and reading all the rave reviews for the Fiber-Lok Non-Skid Rug Backing product, I knew I'd found the right rubberized glue for my favorite rugs. The glue was extremely easy to use! I did not remove the old dried up rubber from the back of the rugs - most of it was already gone. I just painted the new product right over and residue from the old rubber and the glue seemed to permeate the old rubber. Clean up was very easy. I have not washed these rugs since the new product was applied. However, others have reported no issues and some even said their rugs were like knew again. I highly recommend this product.

I've been using this product for 25+ years and still have most of my original throw rugs! This is a product that DuPont doesn't want you to know about. I recommend painting over the white backing of every new throw rug you buy. Years later, when that white backing separates from the rug, you can carefully rip that off and repaint again with Fiber-Lok.

I put one coat on the back of 3 very slippery rugs in my kitchen. The directions called for 2 thin coat, but the second coat was'nt needed, fast drying easy to work with.

Easy to apply, however, didn't cover as much area as expected. Used 1 3/4 jars for a 3x4 rug. .2 coats. Dried quickly. Rug is really non-slip now. Great product.

I have a few throw rugs in my kitchen that have no backing and move about. Plus, with each wash a few more strands of yarn unravel. I looked high and low for this product. I had used something similar years ago. It says it will cover 15 sf. with 2 coats. I barely got 2 small throw rugs covered with one coat. So I ordered more, I have 2 more rugs to go. Actually, I found one coat seems to work just fine, but will add a second coat anyway. Now they stay in place and no more loose yarn. YEA!

I had a couple of holiday rugs that I purchased several years ago. Both had that horrible backing that over time dries out and leaves a powder-like substance on your floor. After reading some of the reviews I went ahead and bought the product. Prior to applying the product I used a stiff brush to remove as much of the old backing as possible then applied a thin coat. I was thrilled to discover that after it dried the carpet no longer had that horrible powder coming off the back. I can even shake the rug and still no powder. YEH!

I was happy to purchase this product to save a beloved rug I had in my bathroom. The backing started flaking on the rug and it created a mess every time I moved it to clean the floor. This product will keep me from looking throwing away a great decorative rug.

For those of you who have used this product...do you think it would worked as a backing for knitted slippers? I have used that tool handle dip it stuff (hard to find colors other than black) and some stuff that is called ABS Latex for this, the abs is expensive. I was just wondering if it would be able to be hand washed and does it dry to a flexible material, too?

    • A. Since the products dries and remains very flexible I would think you could use it on knitted slippers, especially if you hand wash them. Just make sure to apply it in a very well ventilated area...the product really stinks. I did it outside.

    • A. It should work fine on the bottoms. Yes, it can be washed and it does dry flexible. It is a thin latex rubber coating. I put it on the bottom of a pair of socks to make them non-slip.

    • A. It does dry to a flexible sheet of material. I used it on the back of a hand-crafted latch hook rug I made using strips of old t-shirt for my son's dorm room and it worked fine. It works great as a non-skid for the rugs, so if that's what you want on slippers I'd think it'd work well there too. I've seen some commercial slippers with dots of non-skid, you could do that, or coat the entire bottom. Just be sure to stuff the slippers with some wax paper or foil or something before you apply it. It looks and feels about the consistency of Elmer's glue when you open the jar and work with it.

    • A. I think it would be great for the bottoms of slippers; it will hold down any loose strands of yarn, too. I know it's washable, but don't know how it dries, as we haven't washed the rug we put it on yet. Just remember to do two thin coats instead of one thick one. Good luck!
