I LOVE my Ematic eBook!! I first watched the video that was posted on the comments, from a fellow customer, and liked what I saw, so that's why I decided to purchase the Ematic.
I kind of like the Kobo software. What I don't like, is most of the free books can only be viewed on my laptop, and are "not" available to download onto the Ematic.
When you purchase the Ematic you will get a code to receive 1 free regular priced eBook, However your options are very limited as to what the 1 free book will be.
Your choice of your 1 free book is "not" a best-seller or a well known author.
I was very disappointed at the "terrible" selection that Kobo offers for the 1 free eBook.
As for transferring eBooks onto the Ematic, at first it was not easy for me. I had to have a friend help me, by setting up my computer where all my downloads will save onto my desktop, then it was much easier to drag the books that I have purchased onto the Adobe Digital Editions short-cut box.
The video quality is excellent on the Ematic, you even get 1 free short video that is already downloaded onto the Ematic. If you like the Pixar short videos that you see in a lot of Disney movies then you will like the short video that is included in the Ematic. When you watch the video, be sure to use your free head phones that you get in the box with the Ematic. The sound on the Ematic without the head phones is very low.
The Photo's on the Ematic also look great.
Even though this Ematic offers a few extras, that was not my intent when I purchased this Ematic.
All I wanted when I was looking for an eReader, was something that is affordable (Ematic is the cheapest, best rated eReader available at this time.), easy to use, works great, has great reviews from normal people; not a salesman, and convenient/ small enough to take with me anywhere I go (This Ematic fits perfectly in my purse!). This Ematic has all the qualities I was looking for! I am very happy with my purchase, so much that I bought one for my husband also.
Before you try to using the Ematic be sure to charge the battery first! The full 12 hours needed. You will know when the Ematic is fully charged, when a gray screen will turn on automatically that will say USB, with a picture of a USB cord in the middle of the screen. (I included a picture of the Ematic screen I am referring to, onto this review.)
I would also recommend that you download the Kobo program, and the Adobe Digital Editions program onto your computer while you are waiting for your Ematic to charge it's battery. (Both the Kobo and Adobe DE programs are Free to download.) That way when your Ematic is done charging, you can immediately start putting books onto it.

So I got this e-reader thinking it was going to be pretty simple, and it actually surprised me.
It has games and plays videos as well. I Know my daughter enjoys the Tetris game it has and I like that I can download free e-books from the Kobo Market and read them when I want.
Not a bad option and mostly at the price that it is sold for. So far I enjoyed using this device and I would definitely recommend this for anyone who has kids and needs a good ebook solution.

HAVING A EREADER ALREADY. I KNEW THAT IT WAS A MATTER OF TIME I WOULD BE GETTING A NEW ONE. I WAS LOOKING FOR COLOR AND MAYBE SOMTHING WITH A FEW MORE OPTIONS. I FOUND THIS ONE AND I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A TRY. SO FAR SO GOOD. I HAVE BEEN USING IT FOR 2 WEEKS NOW. AND I DONT THINK IM GOING TO STOP USING IT. THE KOBO APP IS GREAT AND HAS SO MUCH TO READ.

I have not ever bought an item in which a power cord was not included. It has to charge up on your usb port of your computer for 12 hours. Unable to find any internet support for this item. Very disappointed

Ematic 7-Inch Color eBook Reader IS must HAVEwhen you decide buying one yourself. It’s a great ebook option comparing to the popular Kindle and Nook ebook readers. right below $100, what would you ask for? im not really techie dont need wifi got home internet yeah!! i can put my books in my purse and go! i can play some tunes cool.and it s pink!! i hate kobo they could have kept that it was a waste of time took it off my desktop ewww. i love mine ive told all my friends to get one. its not a kindle...its ematic and works fine for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Regularcustomer123 Broke in the first 3 minutes of use
I wanted an ebook reader that did more than just allow you to read books, and I didn't want to spend over a hundred bucks to get it. This had a color screen and played MP3s, but no WiFi. I was willing to overlook the very short battery life because the other brands that have similar features are alot more expensive. I waited the 12 hours it takes to charge it the very first time, before you can even turn it on. When it was finally ready I started to check out the features, but the menu button suddenly stopped working. It literally broke within the first three minutes of use! It's a very big deal because you use the menu button like the enter button on your computer. Without it, you are helpless. I can't believe how shoddy the workmanship is in a product that breaks the moment you start to use it. I was forced to return it. Luckily, it happened right away, because you only have 15 days to return tablets! I pity all the disappointed people who bought these for Christmas gifts early, who will be unable to return them after the holidays.

It's a nice ereader, easy to read in a dark room or sunny day, easy to hold, enjoy the MP3 player too. At $59 this device is fairly price. Nook and Kindle are into their 'next generation' and their base models remain overpriced. Do I need WiFi to READ an ebook? No, I don't. WiFi also drains battery life... so decide, if you like to read books or shop for books. I can go 4 to 5 days on a charge and I'm an avid reader. Be advised the power supply is a USB cable that requires a PC or Notebook, which must be powered-on to deliver the charge. Universal DC power supply and USB power adapters can be purchased for under $20. I'd not purchase this for a child under 16. This ereader makes a great gift for an adult who is an avid reader. Recommended.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Butchy60 Great little device
I bought this because I wanted to try an ereader, but did not want to have the novelty wear of one of the much more expensive ones. I have been using it for a week now and have had no problems with it.
video looks good but I don't use that much, bought it to read books.
Downside no wifi.
Upside I can download a dozen books in the time it takes to watch a sitcom rerun.
I will and have recommended to everyone that passed by and asked me about it.
Rated 5 out of 5 by ModernMa My kids love the Ematic they got from Santa!
My four kids each got an Ematic ereader for Christmas and they're now all hooked to it! I was able to download some books from Kobo but I found it easier to download PDF ebooks then "drag and drop" them to the Ematic. Some of the children's free ebooks I was able to download have pictures and they looked really good on the ereader. They also have fun looking at their pictures and videos. The radio and music player were also an added bonus which they all love! Four happy kids equals one happy mom!
Rated 5 out of 5 by pepper0226 I love this e reader. So easy to use. I would recommend this to all , easy to download the books and lots of free books to choose from. I was very surprised and pleased to see all that this reader does and at this price it is fantastic.
Rated 5 out of 5 by geekghodess If WiFi isn't needed, this is a good little reader
I've been reading ebooks for years on my computer, mostly from Project Gutenberg, and I finally decided I wanted a small ereader so I can read ebooks in bed or on a plane. This reader has an LCD screen, so it can be read in the dark. It has plenty of memory (4GB), so I can load many books into it. It also plays movies and music, an unexpected plus. At $60 with free shipping, it's even more than I wanted.

Rated 4 out of 5 by jlcolem My daughter loves it.
After researching several different eReaders, I decided to purchase this one mainly because it looked like it did everything I wanted it to and the price was very, very reasonable. Also, the reviews were very favorable for the most part. I bought it for my teenage daughter for a Christmas gift, so we just started using it this weekend.
The video/picture quality is great. My daughter loves the MP3 player in it. My only problem with it was in trying to figure out how to get the books from the Kobo account to the eReader. I finally figured out I had to also download Adobe Digital Editions. And, even after figuring that out, I found out that only some of the free books on Kobo are actually available for download in epub format that can be transferred to the eReader. I haven't tried to actually purchase a book yet, so I don't know if I'll have that same issue with books I've paid for. I did get the free book that came with the eReader through Kobo (there were 6 books to choose from). That book did download okay, so I'm hoping the purchased books will work the same way.
Aside from the download issue, the Ematic is a great buy, in my opinion.
Rated 5 out of 5 by ILoveSavingMoney Great ereader, but AVOID USING KOBO!
We love the video screen- movies look great on it. It is easy to navigate within the system. The only problem really is the suggestion to use KOBO. I figured out how to get the books from KOBO to the Ematic, but only the purchased ones- the free ones could only be read from my computer. IT was still a pain. Ematic manual tells you to set up with Adobe Digital Editions- DO THIS! (& it's easy) Next, all you have to do is download any book that is in pdf format, open Adobe Digital Editions, add the downloaded pdf book, plug in Ematic, then drag and drop. I've only downloaded free books so far. Adding movies is easy, too. My daughter is watching Kung Fu Panda right now. The problem is Kobo's files don't download in pdf, so that complicates things a lot. I assume Ematic received some kind of kick-back for suggesting Kobo- which was a mistake in my opinion. The Ematic ereader is actually a great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by lajeanspace This product stores music, movies, books, and has radio. I never expected all this, because not even the basic kindle can do this. it is great because you can also choose your favorite color. i wish i had chosen black though since I am 22 and in the business world, but its still neat. Also i had to go to the settings to change the screensaver settings, because it would go black after 30 seconds so do this if you arent a quick reader. My only contention is that it doesnt support all files, but if you buy from kobo or b&n it will suppor ttheir files, Love it and very pleased
Rated 5 out of 5 by uptownsamcv Good product but has slight software flaw.
This product is real good for the money. It plays all kinds of different media wich is good if you know how to convert dvd's into movies, it supports 720P.
As good as this device is for the money i have to return it. My main reason for purchasing it was to use it as a PDF reader for work related documents. This device uses Adobe reader , for some reason Adobe PDF readers do not display certain pages correctly with the PDF documents that i have, even on my PC.
I didnt want to give this product a bad review since it does many other things well and at a good price.

I bought this after researching e-readers for someone else and deciding that at the price this unit had a lot to offer. I am greatly impressed with the bang you get for your buck. The display is excellent you can easily watch videos and display pictures the fact that you can get a 720p color display at this price is outstanding. For those complaining about the software I suggest you download and install the Calibri reader it's free and it will allow you to easily move your books to the reader. I found the Kobo app was hit or miss when trying to sync up with the reader sometimes you got the book and sometime not. Admittedly there is a learning curve and lack of good documentation is a problem. The manual can be found on the e-reader itself but it would be helpful to have some readable instructions on how to turn the thing on. I almost sent the unit back because I was unaware the you had to press and HOLD the ON button for a few seconds before the unit would power up. Fortunately for me I figured it out and stumbled through. I really like the fact that the reader has an adjustable backlight and if the power goes out you can read a book until it comes back on. I am also impressed with the battery life and how quickly it recharges. I use the computer for tranferring files but I recharge using an AC powered usb adaptor. One last thought for those considering this unit, this is an E-READER not a tablet computer it will not connect you to the internet but if you like to take your pictures and books with you you will love the 4GB of memory.

Rated 4 out of 5 by HLMaine Inexpensive MP3 Player/ E-reader
OK, this is not a KINDLE/NOOK. This is an IN-expensive e-reader MP3 Player. Make sure that when you first receive your e-reader that you charge it the FULL 12 Hours the first 3 charges. This will ensure that your e-reader holds a charge. Honestly- I love mine. Downloading ebooks and music is not a problem if you read/ follow the instructions. Not only do you get a paper copy of the owners manual you also get one that is stored on your e-reader. This unit DOES NOT come with an ac-adapter.
I take my e-reader everywhere! I never know when I am going to be stuck waiting, fits perfectly in my purse.
Rated 5 out of 5 by drtbkgrl Excellent value - great e-reader.
Am thoroughly impressed by this e-reader. Was skeptical due to some of the reviews, but truly this is a great device. Here are few tips for those who read other reviews and might be skeptical.
1) After charging the e-reader as it instructs (full 12 hours), you must first turn the master on/off switch on the end of the unit to the "on" position before you can power up the device. So, basically there are two on/off buttons. One that slides left/right and one you press and hold until the unit powers up (takes about 2-3 seconds).
2) Most newer devices come with USB-charging cords only to power up devices, this is not exclusive to e-matic. My Samsung smartphone only came with a USB charging cord, and you can get a wall adapter that the USB cable fits into to be able to charge using a regular wall outlet. Therefore, IMO, to rate this item less because of this is in poor taste.
3) Kindle & Nook e-books are in file-specific format so that they can only be accessed using either a Kindle or Nook. This is their trademark to get you to buy their e-reader and use their software to buy/download books from their stores exclusively. There are, however, .pdf converter software programs on the web you can download to convert Kindle & Nook e-books to .pdf format so they can be read on an e-reader that is not a Kindle or Nook. Otherwise, I've found that most other e-book sites save the e-books in either .pdf, .epub or .txt formats which are all readable and transferable to this e-reader.
4) The KOBO software works well, but I've found that like Kindle & Nook, not all KOBO books are available in .pdf or .epub formats. You have to search carefully on the KOBO site for the ones that are, then you can transfer those to your e-reader via the Adobe Digital Editions software that the set-up book says to download. This e-reader only reads books in .pdf, .epub or .txt file extentions only.
5) I've found that some e-books in .pdf format seem to be in a smaller print by default. By pressing the "play" button on the e-reader, it changes the orientation of the screen from portrait to landscape. You can then change the zoom level to read books more easily for those who need larger-print edition books. You can also use that same function to view photos in portrait or landscape modes.
6) I found the quick set-up guide that came with the e-reader adequate. The full instruction manual is on the e-reader and is accessible while initially charging to be read via your computer. As it is charging/connected to the computer, the computer sees the device basically as an external drive, or like any other device like a thumbdrive or memory card. You can drop and drag files from your computer to the e-reader easily.
Overall, this e-reader was such a great item, I ended up buying another one for our daughter. The full color 720p screen is great. As it states, you not only can read books, but play movies and view pictures on it as well with great clarity. The backlit display so you can read in the dark or dim lighting is great, and the backlight is adjustable to a setting that is comforatble for you. Battery life is very good, so long as you fully charge a full 12 hours the first 3 times you use the unit and drain the battery. It multitasks, as it says, so you can listen to music while reading. The external speaker is very good considering its size, otherwise the earbuds have better quality sound when using the device to listen to music or watch a movie. Overall, so long as you don't need wifi or touch screen, this e-reader is an exceptional value and is well manufactured for the price. I'm a very pleased consumer.
Rated 5 out of 5 by ujazfan I Love this ereader ! I have not had any problems with downloading books ( free ones or bought) I got this ereader for Christmas, I liked it so much I bought 2 more. So it didn't come with a ac charger, I bought one at Walmart for $10.00 a Onn Duel USB AC Charger and it works great. Kobo does have Tech Support. I would recommend this ereader.
Rated 3 out of 5 by gatekeeper Ok for a low budget erader
I brought this ereader for my wife who enjoys reading novels.Never owning a ereader before I decided to start out on the low end budget reader. It works pretty well considering it a low budget reader.I down loaded the Adobe Digital Edition and purchased the books from Google Books.com.When I plugged the E104B into the computer it automaticaly reconized it and installed the drivers. The Adobe Digital Editions also reconized it and you just drag the book to the E104B and it transfers to the ereader. The things I don't like about is the battery life, even though I charged it for 12 hours the first 2 times it will last about 4 hours reading time. The adapter cord to plug into usb port for charging and transfering the book to reader went bad after 3 times using it. I purchased a new one at Radio Shack. The back ligtht may not be as pleasant to read as the Nook or Kindle but its satisfactory. No touch screen or WIFI but I didn't need it,I just wanted a reader. My next ereader will be a Nook, Its a higher quality reader and replaceable batteries.I have a feeling this unit will have a short life.
Rated 4 out of 5 by sobess Great Buy!!!
I purchased this for my mother. She loves to read, and is not computer savvy. So all she needed was something that would allow for her to read and she didn't need wifi or touchscreen because they both would've been to much for her. I also wanted her to have color screen which the Kindle I originally purchased and returned didn't have. The adapter that I purchased for the kindle I did keep that and she is able to use on this. I was easily able to download books from Kobo and also our public library. She is extremely happy with it. The only thing I did notice is a few times when I attempted to turn it on it wouldn't like the battery was dead. When I put it on the charger it turned on immediately but it was also showing the battery was full. That is the only reason I can't give it 5 stars.
