    Earthwise 17" Cordless Mower-flawless performance

Received product at least 5 days prior to original ship date estimate. Kudos to Earthwise, Wal-Mart Site-to-Store folks and FedEx. Product was easy to unpack, with only handles to assemble, no tools required. Because of homeowners association's concerns and my personal time restrictions, I disregarded product warnings and mowed 8 to 10 inch high crabgrass early in the morning when it was wet with dew. The mower really exceeded my expectation going at least 45 minutes under that heavy load, completing my small yard on the initial charge. I hadn't expected that, as it was nearly a month's growth. I was most surprised by no large clumps of grass being left even due to the height and wetness of the grass. I attributed this better mulching due to the high revs of an electric motor. My old gas engine always left large clumps even when the grass was dry whenever I let my "field of weeds" grow to that height previously. The ease of height adjustment was a real plus, one lever movement changes heights for all wheels. I'm really sold on this product

Here are the observations for the first and third runs of the new battery powered mower. It required the full 15 hours of charge time that the manual said it needed. The charger is a standard 24vac output unit, about the size of a laptop charger. I went out with a watch on to see how long the battery would last. That wasn't necessary - it outlasted me. I thought I could probably drain it in 30 minutes of use. 40 minutes of run time (and two rest breaks) later, I had finished the yard and it still showed 80% battery power. I can probably mow again without having to charge it. It pushes the same as the old gas mower, probably about the same weight if not a bit heavier, and had no problems at any time, even in knee-high thick weeds (the stalk of one which you can see sticking out the right side of the cowling). It handled small limbs and everything else as well as the old gas mower would. Starts with the pull of a lever on the handlebar control box, and sounds like a house-hold box fan running on 'high' setting. Very quiet. A single lever lets you adjust all wheels for height. It cuts and mulches well, and comes with a side-discharge mount which I didn't use. Just on a lark I took the mower into an area that I had dared not take the gas mower for the past couple of years, and it chewed it all up with no problem; small saplings and vines, etc. The smaller 17" cut let me get into areas that I couldn't with the old mower. 3rd running of the new battery powered lawn mower, and I can sum it up as "WOW!". It is such a lawn chewer. Nothing seems to bother it and the battery just lasts and lasts. 3rd lawn mowing - I had recharged the battery after the end of the first two mowings because it finally needed it. That was a couple of weeks ago. Pulled it out of the shed this weekend and it was still fully charged and still over 80% charge when I finished the 3rd mowing, so I put it right back into the shed again. Just pull the level and go - couldn't possibly be easier. Really seriously impressed with this machine. It saves SO much hassle. Wish I'd gotten this long ago.

I probably have an average amount of grass to mow in an urban setting. On full charge the mower can do the front and back yards. It cuts very high, which I like and is easy to move around since it is smaller. It sounds more like a vacuum cleaner than a gas mower. Once I get a solar panel setup for all my rechargeable devices it will make me feel less guilty about grass. I like the single height adjustment. The only thing that would lower my rating is if the battery does not perform well...only time will tell on that.

    • I'm not really sure accept you have the choice to charge the lawnmower, with the battery in or out. I use it for security reasons. Think about it; who would steal an electric cordless Lawnmower, without the battery. Only the world's dumbest criminal.

    • Yes, it is meant to be charged with the battery in. It's a standard 24vac charger that it has which plugs into the rear of the mower. The battery can easily be lifted out should it need replacing.

    • Yes, it can be charged without lifting the battery. I assume the easy lift out is for when you replace it.

    • 2 reasons: All batteries eventually need to be replaced, I've had mine almost 2 years and battery still charges and works great. The mower has a plug-in A/C charger that is easy to use with indicator when the battery is fully charged without touching the battery. The other reason for easy lift out is if you have a large yard, buying a spare battery allows you to double the mowing time. My battery works well for my 50 X 100 foot lot, but larger yard than that might need a recharge or a back-up battery swap out to finish.
