I desperately needed a new vacuum...old one was 20 yrs. old....i read all reviews on Consumers Reports...Dyson Animal was rated #2 (the billion dollar Kirby was rated #1) and I am THRILLED with the performance of the Dyson! I have 3 teen-pre-teen children who all have asthma and dust allergies...I have a 5 yr old yellow lab whose fur sheds so much i could coat another lab! The Dyson lived up to its hype and picks up every speck of dust and pet hair! It almost moves on its own! It is very easy to put together and very lightweight also...I highly recommend it!

    Expensive, but an excellent vacuum...

This is my second Dyson vacuum. They are fairly expensive, fairly heavy, and fairly prone to component breakage... But, that being said, they are still, in my opinion, the best vacuums on the market! I've tried many other vacuums both before and after my first Dyson, but none have compared to its ability to clean and its ease of emptying the dirt bin! I wish the components (the hose, belts, etc) would hold up better in the long run. I also wish that the Dysons had a headlight on them. Other than that, I've been impressed enough with them to dig deep into my pockets to purchase a second one... That about says it all!

I just bought a vacuum 8 months ago, and it already quit on me! I need something that will hold up to my workload which is a husky + 2 cats...and i need to vacuum everyday since i have a crawling baby! i need to know that this will hold up! It is a high priced vacuum, and i don't want to have to buy another in a few months!

    • A. I have two dogs, a cat with very long hair, and two birds. I vacuum 2-3 times per week. I have purchased 3 vacuums over the last two years and I really think that this will be my last one. I have NEVER had a vacuum like this one. I totally love it and do not have vacuuming like I used to. I wish you the best of luck!

    • A. I would say YES! We have 3 indoor pomeranians and live on a farm so all sorts of animal hairs, dirt, etc. makes it in our house - and we also have a 15 month old son. I have only had my DC28 2-3 weeks but already love it - it sucks up all of the pet hair/dirt on the floor with no problem and handles my son beating on it - I have friends that have had Dysons for 7+ years and never had issues. Well worth the money in my opinion.

    • A. I have two Siberian Huskies and 6 indoor cats...plus a 4 year old. We would go through a vacuum every 6-18 months and spend $150 each time...with the Dyson's 5 year warranty, I saw the purchase as saving money in the long run (at least that's what I told my husband...LOL). I bought my Dyson almost a month ago and I still LOVE IT!! I definitely recommend!

I am definetely going to buy a dyson, but I am having a hard time deciding between the ball technology or the fixed wheel, any suggestions? Also, has anyone tried the DC28, I have 2 dogs.

    • A. The DC28 is fixed. I thought it was a ball when I purchased it but was wrong since I purchased it on the internet. I didn't care after using it just one time. It is pretty darn amazing! I have 2 dogs, a long haired cat, and 2 birds. Wish I had bought one of these years ago!

    • A. I was told by a service rep in Best Buy that the only real difference between the ball technology animal Dyson and the DC28 was the extra attachment with the DC28 and that the ones without a ball allow for a larger canister.

    • A. I also contemplated this question for awhile before deciding on the fixed wheel. The deciding factor came after testing both products out at a local store (not Walmart). I decided on the fixed wheel because the ball version required a bit more upper body strength to support the machine when reclined for use.

    • A. The DC28 Animal is a fixed wheel upright. If you are looking to adopt "Ball" technology, the DC25 Animal is the unit to go with. The DC28AN has great floor type selector options to meet your cleaning needs, whereas the DC25AN can only turn the brushbar on or off. I think you will be pleased with the performance of either one.

    • A. It is pretty heavy - I would guess around 15-20lbs but it easy to handle despite being that heavy. The suction on it more than makes up for the fact that it is heavier.
