DuPont High Capacity Refrigerator Filter 1 5 1 1
Junk Junk -- there's no better word to describe it!Do you like flooded kitchens? Do you want to spend hours cleaning up a watery mess from your floor? If so, this product is for you! There's a reason the instructions tell you to "gently" tug on the connections to make sure they are secure -- if you put much more force behind it than "gently" you'll pull them right out of the sockets! And, as an added bonus, if you have the water on when you do so, you'll have a flood!Installed this filter as a replacement to one purchased a year or so ago at Ace Hardware. Knew we needed one, and since we were already at Walmart, decided to pick this one up there as it was quicker (and a few dollars cheaper.) First red flag: It is recommended that you replace this filter every 6 months, whereas the Ace Hardware filter was every 12 months -- even though the DuPont filter was larger in size! Second problem: With the flow restrictor in place, you barely even get a trickle from the water dispenser in the door! Not to mention flushing the filter -- an operation that will supposedly take five minutes, but only seemed to take 30 seconds. Upon removing the flow restrictor, much more carbon came out of the filter, and it did take about 5 minutes to flush. Finally had everything installed without leaks, until I started to push the refrigerator back into place. At this point, quite a leak was sprung! Had to quickly shut the water off (which couldn't be done before a good bit accumulated in the floor.) Then discovered that the compression fitting would no longer hold the copper tubing at all!Needless to say, I had to re-install my old filter so the wife would have water/ice, and this one is being returned tomorrow for a refund. Next stop will be Ace Hardware to pick up one of their filters (like our current one) which seems to hold the copper line MUCH better, as well as not breaking! 01/08/2012
