I wrote a poor review for the 4200 a few months ago. I was contacted and sent a new one. I have used it quite a bit and it has become my favorite of all the rotary tools. The ease in changing attachments can't be beat. The range in the adjustable power has made it appropriate for every project I needed so far. Thanks!

I bought this to replace a 14 year old model.  375 i believe it was.    I loved the size of the old one. But the motor finally went.   The new one has started to see some use and i couldnt be happier with the purchase

Good tool

I previously gave a one star review for the product and I'm afraid that will have to stand as far as durability and longevity but Dremel saw my review and immediately provided me with a new unit.

Kudos to Dremel for the great service and standing behind their product! You can't ask for much more than that since perfection is not an option in life

The tool is great when it works, hopefully I just got a hold of a bad one and the replacement unit will stand the test of time, the to Dremel for the speedy service.

Given the number of problems reported, I couldn't recommend this unit but I can recommend Dremel.

Unit failed but Dremels service is outstanding

After owning numerous older Dremel tools I decided to try out the 4200 a few months back, and needed to use the rotozip type bit to cut a large 15" hole in a cedar 1x6 T&G panel (nice soft wood). The Zip bit kept popping out of the EZ change chuck after only cutting about 8" of circumference (and ruined part of the panel...so had to replace 1 piece) Thinking it was me I would take apart the adapter and reseat the bit each time. I was using the supplied Bit and the circle cutting adapter. Finally I used an old Jobmate dremel knockoff that I had kicking around. (with a standard wrench type chuck, pain in the neck type ;-)
I love my Dremel tools and attachments but this 4200 is well, let's put it this way... the jury's still out.
I'm wondering if its a faulty EZ change chuck?
At this point my star rating is 2 stars till I can find a solution to the Chuck problem

4200 with EZ change problem

This is the third one in three days. I was very happy to see this product in the store for the amount of features it had. I cut a 6 inch hole and tried swapping the circle cutter for the regular peace and it wouldn't come off. I tried spinning it off but the threaded part of the tool kept spinning with the attachment. So I went back to the store and got another one. Now with the new one I was using the regular cutter. I tried removing that one and it did the same thing. What I realized the second time it did it was that the plastic attachments threads melted to the dremel and due to this the plastic attachment would not come off and in fact would damage the dremel. I returned this one and looked for a different tool that had similer attachments that didn't have plastic attachments but there weren't any. I needed to finish the project I started so I am now on my third, I went ahead and got the 1 year warranty on it. I'm sure the people at the store are getting sick of seeing me.

Poor quality

First one worked for a day, then the next day wouldn't start. I exchanged it at the store I had purchased it at, then when I got the new one home it ran for less than 5 minutes before it had the same exact problem. I really wanted to just get my money back and buy a different product, but so many people swear by their Dremels I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I thought maybe this was my fault if it happened twice in a row and read some suggestions online that recommended running the tool unloaded at full speed for 10 minutes to seat the motor brushes before use. I did that to my third tool and it managed to finish the project I was working on, so I thought that must have been the problem. After that it went in the drawer for 2 weeks before another need arose. I turned it on to check it, it was running fine, put a bit in, put on my gloves and safety glasses to cut a small piece of metal, and then of course it wouldn't turn on. I will be returning it as soon as I can for a refund and I will never be purchasing another Dremel product.

I went through THREE of these in a month

I bought the 4200 about a year ago. Was wary because of the price. Used it a couple of times for light duty (polishing a ring and cutting a screw.) Was using it today, turned it off and it would not come back on. Check brushes...OK...stator was black...cleaned it back to bright copper...still no joy. Don't have receipt, never thought I would need it! 

Very disappointed.

I bought this items within the past month and the easy change mechanism was appealing but it turns out to be extremely disappointing and frustrating. The few times I have used the 4200, bits have come lose and fly around my work area. I have to then waste time trying to find the bit.
Another problem for me - the center of an EZ Lock cutting wheel broke within a minute of use.

Frustrated with bits coming dislodged

Bought this product 8 months used for 1st time 3 days ago. Used it to clean rust off small tools with a wire brush. I only used it for a couple minuets at a time, total time appx. 20 minuets. Motor quit. I had a smaller Dremel before this and it lasted several years. I bought this larger one thinking the motor would be stronger and last many years.

Motor weak

I was trying to screw off the circle adapter ano it yanked the connector right through the machine. It was a gift and I have no way to return it. Very disappointed.

Plastic snapped immediately.
