Don't Look Behind You and Other True Cases 4 5 1 1
ANN RULE~ DON'T LOOK BEHIND YOU & OTHER STORIES I have always enjoyed Ann Rule's storytelling. She writes true crime fiction with dignity, class, and grace in remembering the victims, while helping us to understand the mind of the criminal. The way she goes into such details you feel as if you really know the people you're reading about. I have been reading Ann Rule books since the late 1970's. As long as Ann Rule writes books, I'll be buying them. I know they're about true, realistic people who could be anyone of us or our neighbors , friends, or relatives. Rule writes with a passion about truth and justice. The first story "North to Alaska" has two murder victims and the story unravels quickly. Joe Tarricone has disappeared since 1978. His loving family of seven children and even his former wife suspect his girlfriend, Renee, of foul play but they can't prove anything. He's just a missing person until bones show up in Renee's old home. The story begins with telling about Joe's life. he was devoted to his family especially his parents. The story is a page turner and even a stomach turner. Reading about cold-blooded women like Renee Curtis is especially chilling. The second story, "Too Late for the Fair," is about the disappearance of a young mother and housewife, Joanne Cooper Morrison Hansen (born July 19,1932-died August 14,1962). Joanne disappeared but there was always reason to suspect her second husband, Bob Hansen, murdered her. Rule paints the Hansen marriage as a hellish experience for Joanne and her children where Bob was very cruel, abusive, and violent towards them. Joanne had tried to escape his wrath, but sadly it didn't work out that way.Her disappearance and Bob's manipulation allowed her young children, two boys and a girl, to believe their mother had abandoned them which was the furthest from the truth. The sad irony is that everybody suspected Bob of killing her but there was no real evidence or body to prove it. There are a few other short stories in this book as well. If you like reading True Crime mysteries than you will like " Don't Look Behind You" 02/08/2012
