"The launch of an exciting and innovatively illustrated new series narrated by an unforgettable kid every family can relate to"
It's a new school year, and Greg Heffley finds himself thrust into middle school, where undersized weaklings share the hallways with kids who are taller, meaner, and already shaving. The hazards of growing up before you're ready are uniquely revealed through words and drawings as Greg records them in his diary.
In book one of this debut series, Greg is happy to have Rowley, his sidekick, along for the ride. But when Rowley's star starts to rise, Greg tries to use his best friend's newfound popularity to his own advantage, kicking off a chain of events that will test their friendship in hilarious fashion.
Author/illustrator Jeff Kinney recalls the growing pains of school life and introduces a new kind of hero who epitomizes the challenges of being a kid. As Greg says in his diary, "Just don't expect me to be all 'Dear Diary' this and 'Dear Diary' that." Luckily for us, what Greg Heffley says he won't do and what he actually does are two very different things.

Book description

Boys don’t keep diaries—or do they?

The launch of an exciting and innovatively illustrated new series narrated by an unforgettable kid every family can relate to

It’s a new school year, and Greg Heffley finds himself thrust into middle school, where undersized weaklings share the hallways with kids who are taller, meaner, and already shaving. The hazards of growing up before you’re ready are uniquely revealed through words and drawings as Greg records them in his diary.

In book one of this debut series, Greg is happy to have Rowley, his sidekick, along for the ride. But when Rowley’s star starts to rise, Greg tries to use his best friend’s newfound popularity to his own advantage, kicking off a chain of events that will test their friendship in hilarious fashion.

Author/illustrator Jeff Kinney recalls the growing pains of school life and introduces a new kind of hero who epitomizes the challenges of being a kid. As Greg says in his diary, “Just don’t expect me to be all ‘Dear Diary’ this and ‘Dear Diary’ that.” Luckily for us, what Greg Heffley says he won’t do and what he actually does are two very different things.

Since its launch in May 2004 on Funbrain. com, the Web version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid has been viewed by 20 million unique online readers. This year, it is averaging 70,000 readers a day.

Rated 4 out of 5★ by Insightful for a mom about middle school I bought this series for my 9 year old son. He read the first book in 2 hours. I read it after and see what the book is all about. It gives me insight as to what my son will face when he goes in middle school. Very helpful for me as a mom. Some of the things in the books are pretty funny too! 04/30/2008

Rated 5 out of 5★ by great kids series. My son can't put these books down. And he is one who usually doesn't favor school. He is currently in the third grade, and since these books and "Captain underpants", he has the top reading score of his class. He's reading and comprehending at a 6.5 grade level. The do it yourself book is very cool. He will love that.Shipping was super quick, and Walmart was running a really good deal on the entire box Set. 12/05/2013

Rated 4 out of 5★ by Grandsons loved it. My Grandsons have a collection of these Wimpy Kid books. They really seem to enjoy them. 12/03/2010
Rated 1 out of 5★ by Negative message to Kids I know this book is popular, but that is unfortunate. I wrote to my son's' elementary school principal that I had reviewed this book, brought home from the school library. The principal agreed that the book has no redeeming quality, except it gets kids to read. How sad that books are now promoted based on childrens discernments, rather than adults. The problem is that the book depicts the middle school experience as one of mean kids, bad irrelevant teachers, negative references to police and authority...the list goes on and on.Suffice to say, that it probably isn't a good idean to paint school and the many relationships inherent to school are negative and unreal. Not the message I want pounded into my child. There are great biographies, and entertianing yet educational books too many to count, why dumb down kids? 12/27/2008
