Rated 5 out of 5 by bobbot This is not for Beginners I'll preface this by saying that this game is not for the casual nor inexperienced gamer. This is not for those with anger management issues. For those wondering, this is an action RPG. You'll control one character with free motion and actively attack/defend in real time. You'll have an inventory, equip gear, learn magic, and level up. To level up, you'll pay "souls" to increase a stat (vitality, endurance, intelligence, strength, dexterity, magic, faith, and luck), thus increasing your "soul level".I've played through this game once so far (there's a "new game plus" feature) and I love it. It's hard. I died maybe 200 times. I'm sure I died at least 50 times before I could even get to the first boss. But those deaths all meant something; I learned from them. Pretty much I learned how not to die so that I may die a different way. This game can get frustrating. But that's what's so rewarding about it. The things that frustrate you to no seeming end DO END when you finally get better. It's a great sense of accomplishment that you can't get from any game out there. When you die, you don't get to simply continue. Sure you keep your gear and stats (most of the time), but you lose all the "money" you have. You can go back and retrieve them, but if you die again, you lose them. When you finally beat a level, it's just awesome. However, don't expect to get a great story out of this game. It's kind of interesting, but this isn't a story-driven game. This is a game-driven game. As it should be.p.s. I've cursed a LOT while playing this game. You probably will too. 10/26/2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Puppetkon Awesome RPG, but Extremely Difficult at Times This game is amazing in many regards and is really fun to play, but it is definately intended for the more intensive gamer. The game is very dark in nature, which really can make it intense at times, but this also really adds to the mood and theme. The story is also fairly interesting, but on some levels, determining where to go next can become fairly complicated. Also, and this is the most important feature, expect to die a lot. Some enemies can be extremely difficult, especially if you go to a level with strong creatures before you are capable of handleing them. However, there are some benefits if you die such as not making as much noise when moving to disturb enemies and increased strength. If you do die, be sure to be able to get back to the place where you die and retrieve your souls or else when you die again you will lose them all. My biggest words of advice would be to not venture too far into a new area unless you are confident that you can get back their easily should you die, and you will die a lot.Although this is probably my favorite game right now, it is also the most difficult game I have ever played, but that is sort of what makes it so enjoyable. 11/01/2009
Rated 4 out of 5 by Technician1981 For real gamers Demon's Soul is the quest game we have been waiting for some time now. The storyline is solid and very in depth. The very center of the game, that makes you enjoy it also makes you wanna throw your controller. The bosses are hard, the upgrades are accompanied by exploration, and the gameplay is very expansive. After the first 4-5 hours of playing you will be hooked. And if you aren't then true game competition isn't your thing. 10/25/2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by FanOfIvaliceSince97 One of the hardest games but rewarding in the end If you easily get mad at video games, then you better steer clear of this gem. Considered one of the hardest games ever made and I believe one of the best RPG's this generation along with Lost Odyssey. This game requires patience, and learning from your mistakes because you WILL DIE ALOT!This is a very Rare game that has become almost impossible to find but this is famous coming from Atlus who only prints but a few hundred thousand copies of their games (Tactics Ogre). If you love a challenge and the online is fun, especially being an invaded in an online session is amazing. 01/07/2010
