After reading some of the negative reviews, I was a bit apprehensive about this purchase. However, this unit works GREAT. Of course it takes a bit of time to heat the area, it simply radiates as it is supposed to do. As far as odor goes, I didn't really notice much of anything other than a slight "warm" smell, which caused my daughter to ask if something was burning. Very slight, not obnoxious, must be some very sensitive people out there or perhaps the "odor" problem has been addressed by DeLonghi. All I know is that instead of using our fuel oil furnace up here in the dreaded Ohio winters, we are using 3 of these, and they are keeping us pretty warm. The electric bill goes up, but not near as much as the cost of the fuel oil and the electricity to run that furnace. I'd definitely buy another (and probably will.) I never turn this off, and feel comfortable leaving it on when no one is at home.

Very well designed with the safe sides to prevent children and pets from a nasty hot spot. Only thing that is kind of off is the timer, looks like it was designed in the sixties. Heats great thermostat works well if strangley designed. This unit had high ratings from consumer reports.

The product is exactly as shown - no installation necessary. The timer is foolproof and not digital (so it is not affected by power loss). Once the product is placed and plugged in - the timer takes over and turns the heater on and off when scheduled. Multiple power settings control how quickly and how warm the heater gets. The heater is absolutely quiet - not noisy as are the ceramic heaters available with fans. This product met my expectations.

    Nice heater, cheap to run

This is a great heater, I have 3 of them. The nicest part about is the timer. You can set the heater to come on at 3am, and your bedroom will be nice and cozy by the time you get up for work at 6:30! This works as a slow, steady room heater, I like to set it to come on at certain intervals throughout the day, and before times that I will be in that room, for instance, setting it to come on a few hours before bedtime. I have had these heaters for at least 3 years now with no problems, they are a good buy. Very cheap to run, as they are oil filled and are much cheaper that the fan heaters at using electricity.

I bought this to supplement the central heat in my 15 x 20 master bedroom that has large sliding doors to the outside that make the room very drafty. I put it on it's lowest setting at 8pm and leave it on all night and it keeps the room temp just right. Read the instructions and put it in the garage or outside and break it in on high for a few hours. It does have a strong smell during the break-in period.

    • A. The oil is self contained in the unit, you do not have to add or replace it. The heating element heats the oil.

    • A. This is an sealed unit - the oil is a special oil and integral to the unit. It heats via electricity heating the oil - not by burning oil of heating.

I was wondering about how much it costs a month to run? Does it run up your bill a big bunch or just 20-30 per month? I'm considering it but it would be on at least the low setting all the time. I don't want to buy some thing that's going to add 50 or more to my already high electric bill.

    • A. Everyone calculating kilowatt hours is incorrect. Oil filled radiators don't run their heaters all the time like ceramic and other heaters do. Once they heat the radiator, the heater cycles on and off to keep it at a specific temperature, like your oven does. It's not continuously using 1000 watts. As such, they're far cheaper to run than other heaters.

    • A. I have used mine for two months now on a daily basis and I noticed a $12 increase on my first bill. I think it all boils down to how much you use it and the size of the room.

    • A. Its easy to calculated this yourself: Total Cost/Month = Xhours/day X 30days/month X Cents/KWH X KWH So if you run the heater at the 1000Watt setting (1KW) 10 hours a day, 30 days a week and it costs .10cents per KWH you would have: 10hours/day X 1KW X 30days/month X 10cents/KWH = 3000 cents/month = $30/month.

    • A. That depends on how you run it. A kilowatt hour is equal to 1000 kilowatts used in one hour. If your energy is 9.5 cents per kilowatt hour the heater then running this heater for 8 hours a day is between $1.14 and $.46 for each day. http://www.citytrf.net/costs_calculator.htm Try that site to give you an idea of the cost and look on your energy bill to see how much you pay per kilowatt hour.
