  • A. There are MANY incarnations of the Dell XPS 15 laptop. The one I received was the 9530 (Late 2013 edition, as far as I know, is their most current incarnation of the model). Yes. It is the 91 watt/hr 6 cell LI Ion battery. It does come with a 1-year warranty, which consists of the 'XPS technical support' and 'next business day support' warranty plans. However, I'm not certain it is the same as purchased from Dell. I hope that you find this info useful.

  • A. Yes, this is the 9530. It comes with the 91 WHr, 6-Cell Battery, which is built into the laptop, so you cannot easily access it or swap it out. I don't know about the warranty since there are various add-on options that Walmart offers.

First of all i would like to share my experience using Windows 8 and setting up Windows 10 on this laptop. This laptop comes with Windows 8. Through the process of changes, Windows 8 shows a lot of new and improved features. There are more than plenty of new apps that are built in this laptop and allow you to do a variety of things all at one time! You will be able to rearrange, resize apps by category, name, size, etc. The ease of being able to open multiple pages, windows, apps, tiles at the same time is mind blowing and a huge plus! I have Windows 7 at home and Windows 8 at work, and let me tell you, Windows 8 is by far better as you can work with multiple files and documents all at once. Now, this laptop comes with Windows 8 installed, and you will be able to automatically update to Windows 10. Just with a push of a button it will install the new and improved windows 10 in about 3 hours (that's at least how long it took me), so make sure that you have plenty of spare time in order to install the update and all the necessary new files and improvements. The update overall is simple and FREE, which means you will be getting better quality apps and more software advances. As for using Windows 10 you can get ready for some new improvements, as new icons, all the apps can be now used as desktop apps. Also i was surprised to see new and improved Web browser - Edge, which definitely advances in being able to find more of the necessary info on the Web. Also, i was pleased to see that now you can have your own personal assistant - Cortana right on your laptop! Cortana will help you out with browser search and also will point out and schedule all of your necessary appointments, will help remind about upcoming events and be there for your convenience any time of the day or night! Cortana on the PC was a definite surprise and a HUGE advantage and helpful feature! As far as the best features of Windows 10 go: 1. it's FREE; 2. simple to set up; 3. has got customizable menu; 4. improved action center for managing apps and notifications; 5. powerful new browser; 6. personal assistant - Cortana. What i did not like is that though it has got new browser, a lot of sites still depend on using Internet Explorer, and also with installment of Windows 10 I have noticed that Windows Media Center was removed and also all of the desktop gadgets. So as far as comparing Windows 8 and Windows 10 i would personally definitely prefer Windows 10, though there are some flaws ( such as removal of Windows Media Center), there are also a lot of improvements( like faster browsing, easier app locations, Cortana). But what stays the same and a huge plus for me is being able to use Word Office, Excell and Power Point online without having to purchase any of them. As far as this laptop goes, it is an absolute beauty and a great piece. It has got a lot of pluses but also some major flaws. The resolution of the screen will absolutely amaze you without a doubt. Its razor sharp display features rich, vibrant colors and the clarity is breathtaking! The screen is 15.6'', and it is a glass touchscreen. The colors are so true to life, i was amazed! If you are working on this laptop, everything is visible even from the sharpest corner of view, but if you are planning on working on it outside, you will be disappointed, as under direct sunlight the display is not clear, therefore not workable. This laptop is about 5 lb in weight, and comes in a beautiful aluminum shell. One of the features that i love about this laptop is a keyboard. You will find a rubberish covered area around the keyboard which feels great to the touch. The keyboard itself is not loud, it is on a quiet side, plus it is backlit which is a huge plus, as now you can work on this laptop at night without having to turn on the lights and keeping your loved ones up. This laptop features 4 USB ports, 1 HDMI port and a headset port. What i found to be a big advantage is a lifetime protection, which means no more spending money on yearly PC protection. Also this laptop features a built in bluetooth, which means you can transfer all your files from you mobile phone right onto this laptop. One of the other great features is a built in Web camera, which allows you to connect to your friends, family or even business partners from anywhere anytime you have your laptop with you. Also what i love about this product is a sleek and thin design, the web browsing is extra fast and the laptop also boots and resumes in seconds. A huge plus is a 16 GB of memory, which means capability to store u huge amount of pictures, music files, work files and documents without worrying about running out of storage space. What i have also noticed is that even while working on this laptop for hours it never overheated. What disappointed me is built in battery, in case if it ever goes bad and has to be replaced you can not change it in a convenience of your home, you will have to take it somewhere to be replaced professionally, also it only lasts for about 6 hours, which means you will have to plug it in throughout the work day. The biggest flaw about this laptop to me was the absence of CD/DVD drive, so for those who are constantly, or at least from time to time using CD/DVD drive, this laptop does NOT offer this feature, which was a huge disappointment for me to discover, as judging this product by its price I would automatically assume that this PC would have everything and anything possibly installed for the ease and convenience of use. So yes, I think while designing this product, the team mostly focused on the features such as sound/display and looks. Though all of those features are great, but they come at a price and i think that it would be nice to know that you are getting everything possible in this laptop in order to make the most out of it without missing out on important features like CD/DVD drive, that's why i give this product a 4 star rating.

The Dell XPS 15 is a high-end, top-of-the-line laptop that I got to replace my old desktop PC. I As computers go, I think it's beautiful, powerful and easy to carry or move around. It has so many great features, like the stunning ultra-high-definition, 4K touch screen. As a designer, this is really a huge benefit for my work. The screen is bright and sharp, with true, vivid colors. The speakers sound fantastic, too, which I enjoy when I listen to music while I'm working. The "gorilla glass" screen goes right to the edge of the casing, which means the computer is surprising small, even though it has such a large screen inside. The base is metal and carbon-fiber, so it's real sturdy and cool, in every way. It has a back lit typing panel, which helps when it's dark, and the top of the keyboard area is covered with silicone. It is all comfortable and easy to use. The laptop is very thin which I really like, but the case is actually too thin for an ethernet plug, so I'm using a usb-to-ethernet adapter for it. The battery life limited to a 5 to 6 hours per charge, but that's is a non-issue for me since I work at home as a graphic designer. If you're used to Windows 8, this comes with 8.1, and I really like the look of it. But when I used it, I missed having the Start button and had trouble getting back to wherever I was before. Since the Dell XPS 15 is “optimized for Windows 10,” and Windows 10 is a free upgrade, it was an easy choice for me, and it was easy to upgrade, too. When I first ran Windows 8, it asked if I wanted Windows 10. I said yes, and it downloaded Windows 10 soon after via Windows Update, and then walked me through the installation when I was ready to install it. The only questions I needed to consider was whether I wanted to “Keep personal files and apps” on the PC (which I didn't need, because it's new), and whether I wanted to grant permissions, basically so I could access free apps from the Windows online app store. So I just clicked yes-yes, and that was it. So far, coming from Windows 7, I'm really comfortable with Windows 10. It's a familiar look and feel, with some extra functions added in. It starts up quickly and offers improved security, so I don't need a separate antivirus application and it works with the existing software and hardware I already have running. I'm glad I was able to get Windows 10 while it is being offered for free, plus they apparently will continually improve it from now on, so that will be nice, too. One thing I noticed is that in Windows 10 there is an expanded Start Menu. It's kind of like I've seen on lots of websites, where a list of items is helpful, but an expanded menu can help you find things more quickly. So the new Windows Start menu works a lot like that. I like how the Alt+Tab keys function is back and improved. I use that a lot to switch between open windows that I'm working in. The settings areas can be accessed a lot like they were in Windows 7 and XP, or if you like, a lot like they were in Windows 8, so there are different ways to do the same things. You're not constrained at all in Windows 10, you can just work and play however you like. In addition to the new Edge browser, there is a new voice-activated personal assistant named Cortana, that helps me search for things on my computer or online, and she also helps me to set reminders, things like that. It's easy and actually really convenient. There are some great built-in apps that come with Windows 10, and I have also added several new ones from the Windows app store, too. So now that I have Windows 10 running, I'm really enjoying the Dell XPS 15! It's working just fantastic for me and my business.

Dell XPS 15, Windows 8.1 & upgrade to Windows 10

The exterior of the Dell XPS 15 has an attractive brushed chrome finish. It is a very slim design. First off: Dell does not load its computers with junkware, trialware, extra toolbars or screensavers pre-installed. What a relief! It took me about one hour to setup Windows 8.1, internet, Wifi, and personalize some features. A nice show of quality is the backlit keyboard and a light on the caps lock key. I appreciate the caps lock light since it is lacking on my Dell all-in-one desktop PC. Another little nicety is a light on the end of the power cord that plugs into the laptop to show power is on. There is no DVD drive in this laptop. I went to load a program from a DVD and discovered there was no place to insert it! But, the lack of the drive contributes to the slim design on this laptop. The problem was solved easily by plugging in a portable DVD drive to one of the 4 USB ports which are located 2 on each side. There is also a media card reader, an HDMI port and a mini display port as well as a headphone jack. The 3200 x 1800 resolution is great, but with it set at highest, the text is too tiny for me. At second highest resolution of 2048 x 1152 and setting the text to 200%, it’s just right and still better than average resolution. The touchpad is larger than some I’ve used. It is easy to use, but I much prefer a mouse, so I hooked up a wireless mouse. Plug & play worked immediately. The touchscreen option is nice for some applications. If you’re into Skyping, a camera and microphone are at the top of the screen. This laptop has a 512 GB Solid State Drive instead of a mechanical hard drive. There is also a speedy 16GB of RAM. All things considered, a very nice computer, priced higher than a lot of laptops, but very good quality, fast, with excellent resolution. Windows 8.1: I don’t like the icons (tiles) that come up when you click on the window icon in bottom left corner of the taskbar. Most of them I delete because I don’t need or want them. When you click the down arrow after the page full of icons, you get a confusing list of everything on your computer, each with a little icon to clutter up the list some more. I much preferred Windows 7 that gave a clean, easy to read list of the programs you use most, not every little thing on the computer, some of which you have no clue as to what they are. It is harder to locate some things on your control panel and other Windows functions than it was on Windows 7. Other than that, Windows 8.1 is not bad. Windows 10 was released on July 29th and was to be downloaded by Microsoft to all devices that had reserved a copy. I received verification that I had reserved it. Then the user was to be notified when it was ready to install. I realize that downloading to millions of devices is a daunting task, but I still had not received mine as of August 6th. I tried going to the Control Panel and choosing Windows updates. I then verified I had set up for automatic updates. I checked for updates, and installed all that were available. After re-starting the computer there was still no Windows 10 download. I finally went to the website: microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 to trigger the Windows10 download. It took about 20 minutes on this computer to download, check for updates and prepare for installation. We have a pretty fast internet speed of 50 Mbps. The easy installation then took about 25 minutes. Windows 10: When you click the little Windows icon in the bottom left corner of the taskbar, you get some “tiles”. You can delete, add, or resize these. You also get a “Get Started” choice right at the top of the list on the left side. Here is where you find the instructions for, and explanations of, the new features in Windows 10. This is very helpful. It also makes you aware that there are a lot of things to “personalize” when you get around to it. The biggest improvement over Windows 8.1 that I see here is when you click on “All Apps” at bottom left, you get a list of the programs & applications on your computer. These are in one column which you scroll down through, and they are alphabetized. This makes finding what you’re looking for very easy. (Unlike Windows 8.1) The next best thing is that at the bottom left are your file explorer, settings key, and the power key to turn off or restart your computer. Microsoft Edge Browser: The home page has photos and links for various news items, plus your default weather. A very nice feature is that when you click on a news story to read it, you can click the little book icon at the top of the page for “reading view”. This presents the news story in a clean, uncluttered view with no ads or distractions. I love this! However, it only works on the Microsoft stories, not if you are on another website. Too bad. I am still discovering all the features and options in “Edge”. Bottom line, if you liked Windows 7 and disliked Windows 8, there’s no reason not to upgrade to Windows 10 now. Even if you liked Windows 8, you’ll no doubt like 10 better.

I had an enjoyable experience using Windows 8 on my new laptop, it was very bright and colorful with apps for everything similar to your smart phone and on top of that, the laptop has touchscreen capabilities which are amazing. I did have a few issues which I had read about such as the screen dimming randomly by itself but those minor annoyances can be remedied pretty quickly in the power options. When I upgraded to Windows 10, it took approximately one hour from start to finish for my computer to complete the process. I can’t complain at all as there was absolutely nothing for me to do and I had zero problems or errors. What I did like was the system was letting me know exactly what it was doing, how far it was in the process and what to expect next. So, I wasn’t left wondering what if anything I had to do. Even if you have no experience using a computer or aren’t sure about downloading, relax, this computer does everything for you! I wasn’t sure what to expect of Windows 10 based on what I had been reading however I must admit, I love it, even more in fact than Windows 8. It has Cortana which reminds me of Suri for the iPhone (she can tell you when you need to do something, organize things and keeps track of whatever you need her to) and Microsoft Edge which is the new internet browser for Windows 10. I love that there are voice capabilities! There was definitely an improvement in my opinion going from Windows 8 to Windows 10. I like that the apps are now in the start menu rather than all over the screen, it seems more organized and tidy IMO. I like to be right at my desktop when I start up, but you can organize everything exactly the way you want it. This laptop is my favorite laptop so far! I am in love with the backlit keys (no more trying to type in the dark relying on autocorrect!) and the touchscreen is addicting. It has a crystal clear screen and the graphics are amazing. I will admit I am a gamer and play an online MMORPG and this laptop plays like a dream which is pretty incredible for a laptop, say goodbye to lag and fuzzy graphics. It’s sleek and professional looking while being fun and techy at the same time! I did purchase a laptop cooler to go along with it but honestly I haven’t even felt the computer get very warm once yet, even while playing online. This computer will not disappoint you, don’t be afraid to give it a try, you will be glad you did!

Easy Windows 10 upgrade on Dell XPS 15 notebook

On July 30, I manually upgraded this high end Dell XPS 15 notebook as well as 5 other computers in my house to Windows 10. Based on my experience as well as other reports, I can say with good confidence that whether you upgrade an older or newer computer or buy a brand new PC, your Windows 10 experience should be a positive one. As for the upgraded luxurious Dell laptop, you can use it simultaneously in both keyboard-mouse and touch-screen modes. Use the mouse or touch the screen with your finger. Even older applications such as players will work by touching the screen. Do it either way, your choice. The gorgeous 4K Dell screen is protected with gorilla glass so it won't easily scratch or mar. I ran Passmark Performance Test, and this Dell is really a racehorse! Very high performance, and you can see that in the specs and tech media reviews. However, with that comes the spectre of excess heat under gaming or other heavy use. So just as with other high end notebooks, you should use a support that enhances ventilation. I bought the Safco Onyx Adjustable Steel Mesh Laptop Stand because it enables ideal ventilation. Just do a search on Walmart. Many other stands reposition the notebook but aren't as good with air flow as this mesh design. Any high performance notebook needs to be managed for heat. For the techie DIY'er Dell provides a full downloadable service manual guide for the complete disassembly of the notebook. You can replace any part yourself if you're handy. All of my programs still work as expected after the upgrades as does my hardware, including a 15 year old HP 1100 laser printer and a high end Canon i9900 ink jet. Did not have to chase down drivers or fool around with license numbers for anything. The Windows upgrade respects your existing setup and maintains it. I might recommend that you review privacy settings in the upgrade process (i.e. choose "customize settings" rather than "express"). Once Windows 10 is installed, you should review the privacy implications of the Cortana assistant and also Wi-Fi Sense. A strong positive is that should this laptop (or any other upgraded PC) need a restore after the one year free period, you can do a full clean Windows 10 install any time at no cost on the same machine without the hassle of license tags and piles of discs. That's good long run security with Windows 10. The main thing I want to get across is that the Windows 10 upgrade and user experience, as has been widely discussed and advertised, should be a completely good one for you, and especially nice on a newer full featured PC such as this Dell notebook.

I have been using a Windows 8.1 for years . I never liked the tiles all over the desktop! There was just to much going on I hated that. I only used the desktop feature the rest seemed like excess. I was very excited to hear about the Windows 10 update. I pre-ordered as soon as I could. I got the little Windows app for all my computers. I got notified right away on my older laptops that my Windows 10 was ready . It took only 45 minutes to install. The computer restarted a few times just like it said it would, all I had to do was wait ,the Window's 10 did everything! Window's 10 is a combo of the best of Windows 7 which was desktop friendly and from Window's 8.1 which was touch friendly. You can easily use Window's 10 without a touch screen but is more fun with a touch screen. The new Window's 10 makes you laptop that has touch screen just like a tablet! With the Window's 10 we can play with the tile's keep them all over the screen if you like or just in a column. You can make up a few different kinds of screens to if you like. The two standout features in my opinion is first is Cortana. She is your very own voice activated personal assistant! Just say hey Cortana what will the weather be on Sunday? and she answers! Ask Cortana anything and she searches the web for the answers! She even tells jokes. The second and the best is that you can play your XBOX one on you laptop! What is great about that is you can tape what your playing and load it to your Youtube channel! I've been wanting to have a gaming channel for years but the equipment is a lot of money, all I have to go buy now is the wireless gaming receiver for windows 10 and it will work. That is so cool ! You can't beat the price of Window's 10 it's FREE if you have a Window's 7,8 or 8.1 ! Windows 10 gives you the best of a touch screen ,tablet like experience from your desktop or laptop. There are tons of other things like the notes and you can highlight parts of a article your reading and save it to the notes.Window's 10 is much more faster then my old 8.1. There are a ton of more features ,very easy to understand. I can get the information I need without all those tiles. I love my Window's 10 ! After a day you will love it to! I never had a Dell computer, but I always wanted a touchscreen so I picked this baby ! I am so happy I did! The first thing you notice is the quality is very good and it feels very solid, but only weights 4.4 Lbs. I love the fact that the bottom has lots of rubber so it don't slide around very stable on my table. The entire keyboard is so nice to the touch. The keyboard has back-lite.The sound is great the speaker is in the front so we can hear everything well. Very easy to switch fro mouse to touch screen. Being able to zoom in on a image is fantastic. There is a memory card reader . I just popped in my memory card and all the photo's came right up ,I was then able to edit my photo and save them. The screen is gorgeous, the images are crisp and sharp, most superb I've ever seen. The system is very fast and responsive. This is everything you want and need in a computer and the touchscreen makes it futuristic. The Dell XPS 15 Notebook is an excellent laptop. There are a few features of the laptop that I found to be quite attractive. In regards to the hardware, the Intel i7 processor, 512GB Solid State Drive, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics card, I found these specs to be very impressive considering the types of laptops I’ve owned. My kids were telling me that it was somewhat smooth when playing BioShock Infinite on ultra settings and perfect on high settings. Though they were not able to run it on 3200x1800 and instead ran it on the 1920x1080 resolution. Overall very good for gaming. The boot up time is fast! This is important because I’d rather not spend so much time waiting for the laptop to turn on—I like to get right into it. Of course, there are other perks that I like as well. For example, the laptop has a 4K display which is amazing. I love having a touch screen display, also. As for Windows 8, my overall experience was quite satisfactory. Though there were some glitches here and there like not being able to go to the desktop or having to restart to operate properly, the entirety of it was fine. When it was running fine, in Windows 8, I liked the smooth transitions from desktop to “App/Tile screen” and when changing from one app to another app. The tile screen works really well with a touchscreen display. However, I have used Windows 8 without a touchscreen and because of that, I rarely used the motions that were there to make it easier (closing apps, swiping to open a tab, making a partition between windows, etc.) A touchscreen display is convenient when using Windows 8. Being able to go to the app store to pick and choose the apps I want and arrange them according to my preferences is a nice feature that is an integral part of the Windows 8 experience. The Windows 10 upgrade process was simple. I reserved my copy, and when the time came I was given the opportunity to upgrade later or upgrade now. Of course I upgraded then and there, and was prompted to keep the computer on. It copied all my files and I then made an account—it was just that easy. The start menu is back in Windows 10! And it has perks. They incorporated the tiles from Windows 8’s “Tile screen,” on the start menu. It’s easier to access said tiles rather than having to switch to a different window every time. For a person who spends most of her time on the desktop screen, this is great. This is a good segue for Tablet Mode. Tablet Mode is basically the Windows 8 “Tile Screen.” If I ever wanted to utilize the touchscreen only, then I’d swap to Tablet Mode like in Windows 8. It’s nice to have been given that choice, rather than Microsoft completely doing away with that feature. In the A.I. family, Siri now has a new competitor, Cortana. For someone that has never owned an iPhone, I never got to play around with that feature. Cortana is useful and surprisingly fun. I can go straight to any app just by asking her. She’ll search anything and everything. Another feature is the Action Center in Notifications. It’s very clean. My emails pop up and updates present themselves. I can access a lot of general tabs that normally would be in different places, e.g. all settings, battery, Wi-Fi, and notes. This makes it easier to navigate to. Finally, to compare the two, I like Windows 10 much better. The start menu, simple navigation, better looking components, and different options that cater to different people’s wants and needs all let me come to the conclusion that, overall, Windows 10 is an improvement of Windows 8.

Windows 8 seemed a little slow to me. Everything was also very manual . Bouncing around from one place to another. Trying to get what I was looking for. Or what I was trying to do. The start screen was a blend of apps and programs all put together. It seemed I was always on a different screen. With Windows 8 I did like the touch screen options. Being able to navigate my computer without always needing a keyboard. I Didn't like Windows 8. It always had me all over the place. While I was on my computer. While up grading to Windows 10 was very smooth. Once Windows 10 started to download. The download was visible all the way threw. With install screens telling you exactly how the download was progressing with the installation of the new operating system. The whole amount time from start to finish was about two hours time. The upgrade was very easy though out the upgrade process. After the upgrade to Windows 10. I liked the new options on my task bar. I now have a start button back. With all the options I'm looking for. I'm able to go anywhere I want to fast and easy now, I also like the Cortana feature for a typed in or voice search. Cortana is easy to use. Just tap the micropne button and Cortana is ready to go. The Task View lets me view everything I have open on my screen. Windows 10 makes it easier to more faster. Windows 10 takes less time to load. When starting up your computer. The sign in screen is friendlier to. In my opinion Windows 10 is a much better operating system compared to Windows 8. Windows 10 is more familiar looking to me. Windows 10 is easier to use. Than it's predecessor Windows 8. The computer I used to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Is a Dell Silver15.6 inch XPS Laptop with an Intel Core i7-4721HQ Processor, With 16 GB. Memory, 512 GB. SSD, Touchsceen. This laptop only takes a couple of seconds to load Windows. This laptop is very fast to work with. Due to 16 BG memory makes the computer lightning fast and a 512GB SSD for super fast performance. The SSD Solid State Drive runs faster over a HDD Hard Drive has a motor inside the hard drive producing more heat and motor failure over time. HDD's have a motor that can only run at certain RMP limitations. The Graphics are clear and crisp. With NVIDA drivers update themselves. The large 15.6 Inch screen makes it easy to read and see what your doing. The lager touchscreen display makes it easy to navigate your way around the laptop. This laptop came with 4 USB ports. An HDMI port, a Mini video port, a ear bud port, a power port, And an Micro SD Card lot. For adding more memory. Along with a power port for the AC/DC adapter. The Dell Silver comes in a brushed aluminum case. You should purchase a laptop cooler to keep the laptop cool. All in all. The upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 8 couldn't have been any easier. I'm very happy with the laptop and the ease of the Microsoft upgrade to windows 10.

I recently got a dell xps 9530 to review. I also will be reviewing windows 10 within the same review. from the start I did not have a great experience with the laptop. First thing that happened when I took it out of the box, it never turned on. I contacted Dell and they ordered a new motherboard and sent a technician out within 2 days to replace the part. Dell customer service was pretty quick to respond but their language barrier is very difficult to deal with sometimes. They sent me an email to respond to if I had any other issues and I responded every time I had an issue and got a response within 12 hours which I would say is pretty reasonable, and quite honestly was easier to communicate through than telephone. I then had many issues with the laptop crashing, rebooting, freezing etc. I contacted them numerous times and they handled the issues I had with the laptop. The operating system I started with was windows 8. There were many things I was not really familiar with but it didn't take long before I got used to it. I didn't like that you had to access the apps screen by going to the apps and couldn't just click out of it, but you had to click the desktop. Everything was swiping or scrolling and it just didn't seem as easy and organized as I would have thought it would be. When it came time to upgrade to windows 10 the icon was not on my screen so I had to contact Microsoft. The wait time was not very long and they got my computer updated to windows 10 in no time. After the update the computer froze many times and none of the options were useable. I had nothing but issues and could not access anything, not the browser, not the apps, not the app store etc. I had to contact Microsoft and their wait times were ridiculously long. I had to wait 150 minutes to get a call from them but when I did she was glad to help. She got everything up and working and now I am using windows 10. First thing I noticed that I did not like was that you have no choice but to have a password for Microsoft accounts, and that account is used to log into your computer. On previous versions of windows this was an option that you could opt out of so that you didn't have to login with a password every time you accessed your computer. This is not an option you can bypass with windows 10 so if you have guests that use your computer, you have no choice but to give them password or create a guest account. The next thing I noted was that there was no internet explorer or other browser available other than the new Microsoft edge. This is the standard browser that they install with windows 10. It works well, I haven't had any issues with it. They also have the app store conveniently located on the task bar for easy access which wasn't the same for windows 8. I have also noticed that when you access the apps it's easily entered and exited by hitting the windows tart up icon in the bottom left of your screen. I love that you can group and personalize your apps from there also. Overall I did not have a great experience from the beginning with either the laptop itself, or with updating to windows 10. Most of the issues have resolved, outside of the computer still "crashing" here and there, and I am happy with the new windows 10.

To start, this review will be long but I will state facts and my opinions on the Dell laptop, Windows 8.1 and the Windows 10 upgrade. ***Dell XPS 15*** This laptop has a fast start up time, clear crisp picture display. It is thin and light weight. The laptop does NOT come with pre-loaded games so you will have a faster experience and won't have a lot of unwanted content. You can install games and apps using the app store. This laptop has back lit keys so you don't need to have your lights on in the house to use it at night. It does NOT have a DVD/CD player but you can use an external one by accessing it to the USB port. The battery is not user accessible. The charger for this has a light on the tip which is nice if you are using the laptop in the dark and need to charge it. The aluminum casing is also a nice touch. The touch pad is all one surface. There are no separated buttons for left and right clicking, which can be aggravating at times. The Nvidia GeForce experience is installed on this laptop although I could not get it to work so I had to re-install it. Now it works very nicely. My experience with gaming on this laptop really is good. The headphone jack is also used for the mic. It has an HDMI port, SD card reader slot, 4 USB ports, printer connection port, charging port and is Bluetooth accessible. Things I like about this laptop: It is fast The keys are back-lit (you can adjust the lighting with a touch of a button) Loud and clear sound/volume Touch screen is easy to use Display is sharp, clear, and bright Lighted tip on charger Things I do NOT like: No DVD/CD player Inaccessible battery Solid surface touch pad (I prefer the individual buttons for left and right click) This laptop includes the following: Intel Core i7-4712HQ processor 3.30GHz, 6MB Cache 16GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory on the Dell XPS 15 Laptop Gives you the power to handle most power-hungry applications and tons of multimedia work 512GB solid state drive Store 341,000 photos, 146,000 songs or 268 hours of HD video and more 802.11ac Wireless LAN on this Windows 8.1 laptop with Intel Core i7-4712HQ processor Wirelessly connect to a WiFi signal or hotspot with the 802.11ac connection built into your PC 15.6" QHD+ LED-backlit touchscreen display NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M Graphics with 2GB GDDR5 graphics memory ***Windows 8.1 vs Windows 10*** -Windows 8/8.1 has the apps that you can download and install. That has not changed but it is easier to access in Windows 10. -Windows 8/8.1 has the slide out menu on the right which can be frustrating when you are working and it pops out in your way. Windows 10 has eliminated that. -You can access the charms by clicking the re-instated start button. -Internet Explorer is replaced by Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Edge does NOT support plugs-ins like Java. -Microsoft Edge is quicker than IE but there are certain features that can be a bit of a problem if you are not real tech savvy. It uses BING as it's default search engine. This can be changed by going to the advanced settings in your browser. You also may change what search engine it uses when you type in the address bar. For this you must go to the website that you want to use first, then go into your advanced browser settings and change it. There are detailed instructions online. -Windows 10 has Cortana which is a lot like Sky-vie or Siri. You can set it up easily and access Cortana using your voice. She can open programs on your laptop and give you basic information or open websites for you. It is a nice addition to Windows. -You can multi-task by having your windows side by side. -Several charms or quick start buttons are set on your task bar for easy access and the ones that are not on your task bar can be found in the start menu. -You can share web pages and pictures easily as well as personalize them and send them to your family and friends. In all, my Windows 10 experience is wonderful. It really is a wonderful improvement from windows 8/8.1. Be prepared for the download to take a few hours when upgrading. Make sure you plug your laptop in. I had issues installing; it kept failing to update, so I had to do a manual install. You can use the media tool on Microsoft to download Windows 10. I would suggest researching laptops to be sure you find what you want before you choose. If you want one with pre-loaded games, a dvd/cd player and an accessible battery, this laptop is not for you. If those things do not matter to you and you want a fast laptop with lots of ram and hard drive space, this one is a good choice. I did not have any issues with my laptop other than the Nvidia not working correctly and having to re-install but other than that this laptop has been great.
