+rep for Dell/Alienware

I WAS skeptical....until i had my hands on this machine. I was worried i wouldn't like the new keyboard, or the new anti-glare screen. But after hours of gaming, i'm in love. The keys have a great feel and I cant get enough of the screen. No glare but still all the bright colors and sharpness. You will not be disappointed. All the games iv played have just been destroyed by the 2GB video card. The battery is what you would expect, 2-4 hours depending on the game/settings. With no games i'm sure you could add an hour or two. Heat hasn't been an issue but it is there. I don't have temps but i have gamed for extended periods with the laptop in my lap and didn't get too hot, just warm. My only complaint is the WiFi isn't great, this may be updated but for now its an average connection even a few feet from the router. But in all, that's all I can complain about. As an example, When my other devices are 5 bars, this beauty is around 3, maybe 4. Hope i helped someone, I was a nervous buyer.

Alienware 14, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5, 256 mSATA Boot plus 750 GB HDD, Windos 8, Bluy-ray optical drive, 4th Generation Intel i7/Turbo bost. I have had my RIG for about 7 months and have had to do a factory reset about 7-10 times. The last time I had to use the reinstall disc I made, as it couldn't find the reset program in the system. I still am having trouble getting APPS to work on the Lock Screen. It wont support the upgrade to windows 8.1 Had to do a reinstall because some of the APPS weren't working in the APP Screen. Maybe its more of a Windows 8 issue that I have been having with the system. I don't know. It is a very very fast system though. Nice looking. Fancy lights which I'm not quite sure the Alein FX works just right or not. Still working on that issue. I know this is vague but Im trouble shooting another system right now but wanted to take the oppertunity they provided me witht to to a small review. Over all on a scall from 1-10 I give it an 8.

POWERFUL, But Some Features Fall Short

I was given this computer as a gift, so I did not get to customize my features, but I knew I was getting an Alienware. Coming from EAST for some time in high school, I knew how sleek and efficient AW was supposed to be--it didn't disappoint. The OS ran smoothly from the get-go and still goes strong now. Faithful to PC, it features all of the tech-savvy customizable options that I find lacking in Window's fruit-oriented competitor. No complaints in the software realm. I'm a little disappointed in terms of physical features, though. The PC is heavier than I'd thought--heavier than my substandard Wally World computer that's three years old. It also gets hot more easily than I expected. And it doesn't have a numpad? What? Now, barring those three disappointing assets, the computer is a dream. I bought it thinking I'd finally get a Steam account and utilize this mighty devil, but I've not had time yet. Even so, using it as a daily PC has proved pleasant and useful as well. Overall, I'm pleased.

I like nearly everything about this laptop, and rationalize the things I don't like. This machine is fast. It turns on fast, loads programs and pages fast, and plays videos very well. I like the keyboard and the soft-touch surfaces. I miss the beauty of the glossy screen on my old laptop, but I don't a problem with glare now. I have a few extra steps to go through to get my 16-bit software up and running, but 64-bit lets me have 16GB of memory. I'm not as impressed by the sound. I don't like the internal speakers. I was confused which jack to use for my external speakers and what selections to make on the pop-up audio screens (I had to use the headset jack and select front speakers to get my 3.1 speakers to work), but the sound is now better than I remember with my old laptop. I'll be using this machine for software development and for social browsing, but I'm an impatient user and wanted a no-nonsense machine. My last laptop had a problem with cooling. I expect that won't be an issue with this Alienware.

Great Scores with One Drawback

First off, I have very few qualms about the performance of my Alienware 14. It is well put together and performs beautifully, as well it should. The look is fantastic and the customizability addicting; however, out of the box upon delivery and messing with the LED's through Command Center, I noticed a relatively egregious oversight. When cycling through the colors, it was hard not to note that some of the diodes were either not functioning correctly or out entirely, causing a bleed effect. For instance, when looking at a yellow trackpad, there is much leakage of green from the left side, yet when it is blue, the color is solid and correct. It pains me to see that a machine such as this one was clearly run through tests before it arrived, and yet there was a failure to test all of the LED's for quality, especially considering the company is based close to me in Round Rock. That being said, I am still happy with the machine itself, casting aside the LED oversight.

Let's be honest, anyone looking for a gaming laptop 18 months ago would have been impressed by the M14XR2. However, just a short period later and we're in 2014 and this laptop is showing that we really expect more from a laptop. Size is one of the issues holding this 14" laptop back. Yes, its a smaller Alienware, but that isn't saying much. Competitor laptops are starting to come out with gaming variants at half the thickness of this unit, and they include touchscreens, bluetooth, magnetic power cord connectors, and other innovations. So what do I get here with the Alienware M14XR2? It seems to be a fairly reasonable machine, great texture of the plastic by the keyboard, fantastic feel of the keyboard, with good hardware and a solid screen. What did I wish it had even if they didn't change the chassis? A WLED screen like the M18XR2, a solid state drive, and bluetooth. Overall, I like it, but I'm left with the feeling that I could have shopped around more.

Convenience with POWER

After receiving the laptop I noticed drastic improvements in everything (as is expected from alienware). Speed, picture quality, and overheating have never been an issue. Though a bit heavier than usual, the portability in terms of physical size is superb. I personally bought this for college, and though it is not of macbook caliber thinness, it is definitely sufficient for class. A nice carrying case would be a very wise investment if you'll be moving around a lot as some of the rubber lining likes to wear from frequent movement. In addition some HDMI to VGA/DVI converters would be great to have since the computer only has an HDMI port and a mini display port. Though I did have some issues with the touch pad and charger, Dell is extremely available to customer feed back. I was sent a new charger in 2 days when I expressed concern over it. The keyboard took a while to get use to as it is quite flat and the speakers didn't quite have the quality that my XPS M1530 had but aside from this it was is overal a great product!

First of all, the packaging was absolutely stunning, although there was a tear about 1/2 an inch long along the power cord box, only bad thing about packaging. The computer boots up in a fair amount of time (I have Windows 7 Home Premium, not sure about Windows 8/8.1) but sets up in under 10 minutes. Downloads programs fast, and is able to handle high video settings on separate-browser games (what it's meant to do). The material it's made of is very nice to touch, I think it's some vinyl material. The light settings are adjustable, but that feature should be listed in the product page because I thought colors were pre-set and permanent. Adjusting the sound is a bit confusing, because you have to press FN + F7/F8 to change the sound using buttons. Overall it is a very good computer, but as many people said, it is a bit hefty, but that's not really a problem. But one suggestion for improvement: for Windows 7, put the Windows 7 themed Start key, and the Windows 8 themed Start key for people with Windows 8. Very good laptop.

Specs: 8GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 1GB GDDR5 750GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, English I myself am not computer savvy. So when I looked at buying a laptop I wanted something that would be sure to perform without too much work on my part. I went with the AIlenware 14 laptop and have absolutely loved my decision. I play steam games regularly and am able to amp up the settings to get clear and crisp graphic quality. I can watch any HD videos I want and the Dolby sound system is great!. Also, the keyboard AND track board light up, which is awesome. AlienFX are great and I love the itunes light show feature that can be switched on. The fans dont seem to cause to much of a problem and I havent noticed any specific cooling issues with the laptop. (And i've definately put some hours on this thing) If you're looking for a powerful, cool, effective laptop, look no further. It's the Alienware 14.
