Inspiron 570, an average cheap system As Dell advertises, Inspiron 570 is OK for average every day computing. Details follow. Note, some of the human factor issues I have raised. No physical problem with the system as it was received. One small problem with the shipping - missing Resource DVD. The system powered up and became ready for use with no problem.Used Dell DataSafe Local Backup to create Recovery Disc set. Tested 'restore factory image' function, first with the recovery disc set, and then from the hard drive (Recovery partition) on a spare hard drive. Had a small problem with the first test.Tested diagnostics function (F12 / Boot to Utility Partition - at power up). Liked the capability of performing custom tests. On the negative side, I have some issues with the human factors (usability). First, to open the system unit you have to remove two screws. I have had Dell Desktops, you can do it without dealing with any screws. Seemed like a very good feature. Wondering, what triggered this change.I have real issue with the dark smoky looking front bezel. Does it look more cool with the dark mask covering the whole front of the system? Seems like, you are trying to cover things unnecessarily. DVD drive is fully covered. You can't even see the activity light because it is completely covered by a section of bezel. The 'eject' switch is also covered. It is actuated indirectly by pressing a section on bezel. It is very awkward using the drive this way. I'll rather use the system with the bezel removed. What prompted this kind of design? Dell had a much better design before. You could see the drives and the buttons. I am certain, it is not the bezel cost. It may be just a change for the sake of change.Dell is not shipping Windows Reinstallation Disk (WRD) any more, a feature which distinguished Dell from the rest of the brands. The reason being - system comes with Dell DataSafe Local Backup application. I would rather have OS (Windows) Reinstalltion Disk. I can perform all the backup and restore functions using standard application like Norton Ghost or equivalent. Let me put it this way, this (WRD) was the single most important reason I became a loyal Dell customer. I ended up buying more than a dozen Dell systems, for myself, my family, and my friends. 08/11/2011
Disappointing After replacing the PSU and mobo once already, it still freezes and throws BSODs. I've bought four Dells (Dimension XPS R400, two 2400s and this one) since my first in 1998 and this one is the most dismal by far. 06/06/2011
