Rated 5 out of 5★ by DoItMySelf52 34 years - same rod and reel Bought one of these in 1978. Finally wore it out landing a 25" brown trout out of the Green River in Utah. Got a new one but they doubled in price. It will now be $1.33 per year if I have it and live that long. Best light tackle ever!!! 08/29/2012
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Barney44 Some experience necessary I didn't expect much from an inexpensive portable fishing kit, yet this product has so far held up pretty good under a bit more use than expected. It is now my primary fishing set-up and gets used four to five times a week for the past three months. So far nothing has broke. As long as the pole is put together tightly and when (if) you get anything over 2lbs on the hook you let the reel take the weight it does just fine.I'm using it at a bass lake with a trout pond at the bottom of a run-off chute so it has performed well, either casting size 3 rapalas for the bass or just with a trout rig. The lake I currently fish at is through heavy brush in Southern California, so the compact kit is necessary and works great. As long as you know what minimal tackle you need it holds it all. I even have room for my reading glasses and a small penlight. The 4lb test line seems perfect for this set-up. I will be trading up to a better line like Stren or Trilene when I wear this current spool out which will be soon. One important note: Do Not Purchase this rig for newbies unless it's just for show or as a back-up. It is quite sensitive and can break quite easily in the hands of a ten year old. If the user of this kit is not familiar with how to take proper precautions when setting up a rig, or has problems setting up a rig, then this is not for them. For $50 this has been one of my better buys of fishing equipment. I hope this review helps, and good fishing! 03/05/2013
Rated 4 out of 5★ by MDBoss I bought 2 of these. They were both delivered in the same box by the same carrier. 1 was in perfect condition. The other one has a broken compartment pierce and a storage compartment door will not latch. This one will need to be returned and replaced with a new one.The rod and reel itself is ok. 12/27/2012
Rated 3 out of 5★ by xtmskid Travels well for light fishing Button rod, max 6 pound test, have been able to use it w/ 8 pound test. Son used rod on our trip to Florida, had some trouble changing the line, but was otherwise happy with it. Case has a bad smell, so air it out before you pack it w/ your luggage 04/05/2013
