enough to pack the reel after 100 yds of backing is added

It seems to be about 60' and it is level taper, with no backing. The rod does not cast very well with the line that comes on the reel. I added backing and WF-7 line, and the rod casts very well. You can buy Scientific Angler WF-7 from Walmart at a reasonable price. It is a 6/7 rod and I recommend using a 7 wt line, and you will be pleasantly surprised at how well the rod casts.

The rod, reel and line are okay for salt, but the flies that come with it are very small and seem to be just for fresh.

Product was as described. First time out with it I caught fish. Had not fly fished for over 50 years and this rig got me right back in the swing of things.

This is really a great fishing rod and real deal, good quality, low price.

Great Fishing Pole

I decided to get in to fly fishing this year and this seemed like a great way to start without a significant financial investment. The package seems to have everything needed to get started except some backing line, so pick some up. I haven't yet tested in the field, and will update.

This kit is a great deal for the price, but it is not high quality. I bought it because I was interested in learning to fly fish but had never tried it before. I figure that for this price, I could tell if I really wanted to learn and then trade up to something better. It comes with two flies, and one of them began to unravel and slide off the hook after the first day I used it. The rod is three pieces, and the top piece sometimes slides out when casting. The small rubber plug at the base of the top rod piece also fell out, and I had to epoxy it back into place. For anyone who has tried fly fishing and knows that he or she wants a decent rod and reel, I would recommend one of the more expensive kits, or to buy the components separately. You can easily put something together for less than $100 that will be better and last much longer. But for someone who just wants to try fly fishing and not risk much investment, this is definitely a good value. Be aware that there is no backing and the reel is not pre-loaded, so you have to load the fly line yourself. It is not difficult, but it does take some time to set up. There is one tapered leader and if you are not very careful removing it from the package, it may get tangled. If you do everything right, this is a nice kit to learn the basics.

Only for a beginner

Not a good pole at all. My son had a horrible, frustrating time with it. Line was too thick, it was awful. I wouldn't recommend!
