I really love this bed. It was not so difficult to put together. But, you need three people atleast. Also it would be better if they had packed it in two separate packages instead of making one big package. It is difficult to move the package if you are alone. One person cannot even lift an inch or push to move around. Also in the instructions they should have made a marker image where to screw the plastic roller for the drawer. You learn after unscrewing a couple of times. You have to almost go by trial and error. Also all plastic ones should be installed first instead of after the dividers are affixed. There are some minor things that could make it more easier to assemble. But overall I love to sleep on it after it has been assembled. I recommend to other people. Also dealer could have assembly video on Walmart's web site so if we have difficulty we can look at it.

...including buying and putting together this bed. My wife and I had been looking at similar beds in a number of stores, and found some beautiful solid wood ones, that were way out of our price range ($500 and more for a captain's bed). While this is pressed wood with an inexpensive veneer, as long as we can keep our 18-month old grandson from gnawing or pounding on it, it will hold up. The veneer looks like pine, and the shelves on the headboard (sold separately) accommodate all of his little Wonder Books, and most of his chunky books. We haven't used the drawers yet, but they should be able to handle the overflow from his dresser. The hardest thing about this new bed process was getting it out of my truck and into the house; it was heavy and I'm getting old. Fortunately, my daughter's boyfriend was here to help (actually it was the other way around). He managed to assemble it with no problem, in less than an hour. The most time-consuming part was getting my wife to decide which wall she wanted it on, since that will determine which side the drawers will go on. Our room is small and she wanted it up against a wall. The drawers do not extend across the entire underside of the bed, and there is a cross-member that prevents you from being able to pull the drawer out to be able to access the other half of the underside of the bed. You could, if you had the energy, remove your mattress, lift up the mattress support, and shove things underneath (which my wife will undoubtedly make me do). The more expensive captain's bed we saw at "The Room Store" had a door at the foot of the bed that would provide access to the "empty side," but I couldn't see spending $400+ more dollars to do that. A suggestion, buy a VERY soft pillowtop mattress for this bed. My wife picked out a pillowtop mattress to go on the bed, and it felt pretty soft at Mattress Discounters ($170), while it was sitting on the box spring, but once you put that same pillowtop on the wooden support on this bed, it no longer feels soft. I ordered the bed and headboard online, and it arrived at the store several days before the date promised. The directions were easy to follow, and there were extra screws included, so I didn't have to dig around in the garage for extra parts. (We need to buy one of those things to keep the baby from rolling out onto the floor, so he's still in his toddler bed. But it will be good for use by our other grandchildren when they come to visit, or for me when I'm in the doghouse.)

Cheap bed= cheap material. Should have built one with real wood but wanted to save some money. Bed is ok for a kid but it couldn't take alot of moving around.

I bought this for my preteen daughter, and she loves it. It was simple to put together, and sturdy enough to last for awhile. After reading so many reviews that say the drawers were small, I was pleasantly surprised at their size. They're perfect for her craft supplies and knick knacks. I'm definitely glad I bought it, and would recommend it to others.

The bed is easy to put together. It took my husband about 45 minutes. Looks great. The only thing I would change is to make drawers longer.

  • A. Yes, definitely it would support a full grown adult. I am 250+ and it did not show any signs of strain. It is very solid once you put it together. I would not let kids jump on the beds since the mattress is supported by flat boards, but there is no problem with the weight. That being said, it is a twin bed, so for a 6'2" male adult, the length is too short for regular use.
