The following content was provided by the publisher.
Chief of State Natasi Daala has been overthrown, and the Jedi Order has taken control of the Galactic Alliance. But while the new governors dismantle Daala's draconian regime, forces still loyal to the deposed official are mobilizing a counterstrike. And even the Jedi's new authority may not be enough to save Tahiri Veila, the former Jedi Knight and onetime Sith apprentice convicted of treason for the killing of Galactic Alliance officer Gilad Pellaeon.
Meanwhile, Luke and Ben Skywalker are relentlessly pursuing Abeloth, the powerful dark-side entity bent on ruling the galaxy. But as they corner their monstrous quarry on the planet Nam Chorios, the two lone Jedi must also face the fury of the Sith death squadron bearing down on them. And when Abeloth turns the tables with an insidious ambush, the Skywalkers' quest threatens to become a suicide mission.

About the author

Biography of Allston, Aaron

Aaron Allston was born in Corsicana, Texas, in 1960. He began writing at the age of 11, and became interested in journalism while in high school. He attended the University of Texas, at Austin, briefly, intending to study journalism, but after a semester at the university and a year working for The Austin American Statesman newspaper, he found he did not particularly like either college or journalism. At that point, Allston went to work for Space Games, a magazine for fantasy role-playing games, and quickly moved up to the position of editor.

He also began designing supplements to role-playing games, such as Dungeons and Dragons, on a freelance basis, and by 1983 he was working full-time as a games designer. His first novel, Web of Danger, was based on the Top Secret/S. I. game line, and Allston has since written several other game-based novels. Allston also writes the bestselling Wraith Squadron series, which includes Wraith Squadron, Iron Fist, and Solo Command. Based on the Star Wars movies, these books continue the X-Wing series started by Mike Stackpole.

Movie characters such as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia occasionally make cameo appearances in the series, but both Stackpole and Allston have created new characters for their books; Allston's series centers on the Wraith Squadron, a unit of fighter pilots composed mainly of misfits and criminals. Allston has also written some original fantasy novels, including Galatea in 2-D and Doc Sidhe.

Reviews

Review by Library Journal (2011-06-15)

The exiled Luke Skywalker, his Jedi son, Ben, and Sith apprentice Vestara Khai continue their precarious alliance as they track down the Force-wielding entity known as Abeloth, convinced it is responsible for the attacks of madness affecting Jedi throughout the galaxy. On the planet Coruscant, Leia and Han Solo concentrate on the political and tactical problems affecting the discredited Jedi Order, following paths that lead them to the seat of the Republic's power.

The seventh installment in the nine-volume "Fate of the Jedi" series (and the first in a "mini-trilogy" that rounds out the series) takes the action into the heart of the Republic as a Jedi knight is tried for murder and expands the story to the hostile planet Klatooine as it becomes the staging ground for a long-awaited confrontation that could decide the fate of those whose destinies rely on the Force.

Verdict: One of three authors (along with Christie Golden and Troy Denning) contributing to the latest series in the popular and growing opus of Star Warsr novels, Allston (Outcast; Backlash) remains true to the spirit of the characters, combining wry humor and passionate conviction with splendidly depicted action scenes.
