I have never had a cast iron pan. Is it dishwasher safe or hand wash only?

    • A. when it's fresh off the heat source, scrub it under hot running water, return it to the heat source and swab it with lard or whichever cooking oil you use, then let it cool.

    • A. The material states to rinse out and dry immediately. You can use a mild soap solution when washing by hand BUT you must immediately dry it out. I would recommend re-seasoning immediately with oil.

    • A. I have considered washing in a dishwasher, however I would say don't. You do not want to ruin the coating it gets thru use, which makes cleanup easier and it won't rust. For the most part, most of your cooking will be easily wiped out with paper towels, I have found thru the years if a fried product, or if cooking something with a lot of moisture, rinsing well is all you will need, then wiping out with paper towels, and adding a gentle coating of oil again if it is a newer product and needs more seasoning. Once you get used to using cast iron, you will looove it ! You will also gain more iron in your foods as well, which is just healthier.

    • A. I've used my cast iron for 40 years; never use soap except on the outside if grease drips over, or a tiny bit of dish detergent if your pan is super greasy and you must clean it right now. Soak a while in plain hot water then scrub, or just wipe if you didn't burn food on. It cleans like a dream. Dry right away-I just "dry" it with my sponge and hang it up. Even if you soak too long and rust appears on the edges, just scrub it lightly and coat with cooking oil. Clean bad stuck-ons with boiling water, wait a bit, and wash out with a green scrubee. If it's really stuck, or you need it right away, boil a bit of water in the pan, then scrub out with little effort. If you worry about bacteria, soap doesn't kill it anyway, and next time you heat the pan, all will be killed. Besides, germs don't grow on clean dry surfaces. (I'm a microbio major from UMass) One warning-don't cook acid foods like tomato sauce in your cast iron-it will remove the seasoning and create oxidation (rust). (Though you can restore it if that happens.) My cast skillets are the best tools in my kitchen-wouldn't trade them for anything-especially the "non-stick" junk on the market.

    • A. I find that you can wash them by hand lightly, but make sure you get them good and dry afterwards. I would also then put a thin coating of oil back on them to help keep them seasoned and ready for next time.

    • A. Good to note the avoidances: 1. Avoid using soaps and detergents. 2. Never put the skillet in the dishwasher 3. Try to avoid using steel wool to clean your cast iron cookery from the following link. http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-a-Cast-Iron-Skillet here is a how to on seasoning your skillet http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-lagasse/how-to-season-cast-iron-skillets-recipe/index.html

    • A. Yes. Lodge Cast Iron is safe for use on all cooking surfaces such as electric, gas and induction stovetops, as well as the oven, fire and grill. Just be careful to pick it up to move it, avoid sliding it as this may scratch your glass top stove.

    • A. You can. I have. However, I wouldn't recommend it. Actually scratched the stovetop up a bit. You're better off sticking with cookware that has a smoother finish on the bottom- the newer cast-ironware is bumpier and rougher than "antique" cast iron used to.

I really do love the lodge logic cast-iron 3 guart slow cooker combo. I've used the lid to make crisp taco shell they came beautiful nice and crispy just the way we like them. Easy to clean. I rubbed lid and pot down with oil then turned on the burner for 5 minutes and placed the in the oven for storage. Ready to use when I want to BBQ again. They are very heavy . don't store your food in these pot. All you have to do next is use it again when you're ready.

I've been a blood donor many years but a couple years back, have been rejected due to low iron count despite eating dark greens. I got a set of this combo to try. Made some phenomenal breads, and it's incredible how much better everything tastes- soups, stews, omelettes, sir-frys. I've thrown out a few cast iron pots in the past due to rusting but now, cleaning involves just a brush and hot water. Absolutely no soap! Combo is now virtually non stick the more I use it. This sits permanently on my stove top and the combo is used daily- from stove to oven. The caphalons and scapans are now sitting in the cupboards. Get some silicon holders--they do distribute heat well. I've bought 2 sets as gifts and I've been donating iron rich blood. I know I will send my son with a set when he goes to college.

Pan is good as most Lodge Products are. Finish is very rough on inside bottom and sides Finish on Top Inside is smoother. Fit of the Top/Botttom is 95% good..Will be perfect after a little smoothing down. Could use some Sanding and Polishing to make it like the Older Vintage Lodge Pans See the ETM Review(U-Tube on Lodge and Learn how to make them like the old ones if you have the tools and the time. It's called How to refinish Cast Iron. I will buy all the rest of them at this point. they are a " Quality Product " Great Dual Purpose Product and looks like it will be a DANDY to Deep Fry in it. It will require much less oil to be useable for most things, And I won't have to use 4 Liters of oil every time like I do with the 4L Deep Fryer. I Highly doubt that you will ever have to replace it " EVER ". Just cannot beat this Quality and Price from Walmart.

The Lodge combo cooker will be great, because it functions as two skillets, or as one with a lid to hold heat, or as a Dutch oven for use in the oven. The surface was a bit rough, but I hand-sanded with 120 grit paper (didn't take very long) til part shiny and part still black and re-seasoned it twice in a hot oven with a light coating of canola oil-it is awesome now. (Don't know how it would have been without my work, but my older cast skillets are so smooth that the rough surface of the new one really bothered me.) Apparently, Lodge says that the roughness will go away with use, but I didn't want to wait, since my old cast pans are smooth and clean up with just a wipe. Love the versatility of this set.
