This solar battery charger has a built in blocking diode which protects battery discharge at night.

The question wasn't "does the unit discharge at night". OP was asking if it overcharges if left unattended. The answer is no. This is a maintenance-free trickle kit. I will however warn you that these solar panel unit can sometimes set off car alarms. It's not very common but it does happen (mostly with alarms that have voltage sensors). You may need to disable or adjust the sensor.

Another tip I give people is that if they are afraid of exposing their unit to direct sunlight over a period of time while hanging it from an exterior environment (e.g. a carport), then buy some cheap $20 car tint, build a shallow box out wood, drill holes in the wood (for venting) and cover the unit by gluing the tint over the top.

The best buy  i have made

Although I just started using this charger it seems to do exactly as advertised - my Nissan Xterra kept losing charges - I had two replacement batteries installed within 3 months - because I don't drive it enough. Now with the charger it starts right up. My only complaint is that I wish it had a power light to let you know its working. Otherwise great product.

Works Great

I've yet to install this item but I'm sure it will work as claimed. I love buying marine items through Walmart. Should I need to return anything (such as I recently did for a marine antenna), I simply take it to the store and they do it with no hassle.

Excellent Shopping Experience!

Bought two for my hunting camper, 1 for the Generator battery and 1 for the main bateries. So far no problem mounting to the side. I like how Sturdy built they are.

Sturdy and so far reliable

My car sits a lot and the battery would lose juice, sometimes to the point when I had to jump start it. I bought this solar panel, problem solved, it keeps my battery up and running even when the sky is overcast. Great product.

Fantastic free source of energy

It works and is solidly built and for me will keep my truck battery up while it sits for months at a time. I have been losing a battery once every year an a half so hopefully this will change that

Great product so far at a okay price

Order arrived as promised and performs great. I measured the voltage output with a meter and indicated between 12-14 volts on an overcast day. Excellent deal for the price.

Have used for two weeks on my boat and is working great.  Spent all day on the lake and battery still 12.8 volts. This is on a 3 year old battery.

Coleman 6W Solar Battery Charger

I bought this to install on my 20' motorboat to keep my single deep cycle battery topped off. It seems like it is a high quality product and installed easily; no solar charge controller required for a unit this size! If you have multiple batteries I'd recommend the 18w version that comes with the controller or if you have the real estate to get the largest panels that will fit and still be out of the way. This compact 6w unit keeps my battery charged even with the bilge pump running intermittently.
I endorse this product.
