    Rugged, Sharp, Versatile

I wanted a rugged field knife with a case that I could easily integrate into my MOLLE-based pack system. With that goal, this knife can't be beat for the price. The case attaches to a Condor Pack like it was made for it and the weight and quality of the blade serves very well in tasks associated with extended-stay bushcraft.

I know about knives. Have owned many. I have a few Busks, Gerber's (old models) and German knives I have owned from back in the 60's. They are all good still and I expect this GI Tanto to hold up also. I have spent a lot of time in the woods doing what those guys on YouTube videos do. I have been doing the same things for over 50 years. The Cold Steel GI Tanto is exactly what it is advertized to be. That is, inexpensive and almost indestructible. For the price you can't beat it. It came very sharp right out of the box. I took it out and started chopping, splitting, hacking wood, and carving to see how it worked. I also cut out a figure 4 trap trigger in only a few minutes. It did everything well. It would make a good survival knife. Its sheath and blade are well made. It is only lacking in fit and finish. The only thing I would change about it would be blade length. I would like it better if it didn't have a finger notch after the hilt. But instead had a full blade.

Best knife value in the world?

The CS GI Tanto is a tough survival/combat knife. It is carbon steel, so it will need to be kept oiled. If you could only have one knife, this knife might be the one to have. There may be better knives, but probably not at this price point. (If you know of one, please advise.) As a bonus, the sheath is pretty good, too.
