Don't miss "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," soon to be a major motion picture in theaters August 2013.

Includes the never-before-seen short story "Magnus's Vow"
Magic is dangerous--but love is more dangerous still.
When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.
Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.
Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by--and torn between--two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length . . . everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world. . . . and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

Book description

Includes the never-before-seen short story Magnus's Vow!

Magic is dangerous—but love is more dangerous still.

What’s more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length... everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world... and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

Rated 5 out of 5★ by 6reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Awesome book!! I just couldn't put this down! It was a very very good book! I ended up buying it for my best friend! Will and Jem are absolutely wonderful, and I absolutely love Jem. I can't wait for the third book to come out. 01/22/2012
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Great addition to the Mortal Instruments Series! If you have not read The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, then I suggest buying those and reading them before starting these books. These are a "prequel" to those, but are not NEEDED to understand this series....though I suggest it since you will find a lot of hinted references in this one to characters from Mortal Instruments. With that said....It took me a while to pick up this book (and the second one in the series) because Im not a big fan of books placed in history. I prefer present time (or near it) and dystopian/post-apocalyptic books. Boy was I missing out in waiting though! This story revolves around the London Institute for Shadowhunters in the late 1800's and its inhabitants as well as a few of the Downworlders from the Mortal Instruments series. Magnus Bane as well as Camille Belcourt grace this book with their parts, and you will notice a few surnames that match up with Mortal Instruments characters as well. They elaborate a bit more in this series about some of the things you hear about in Mortal Instruments, I have no specific examples, but if you have read the other ones then you will see the parts I am referring to in these ones. The story itself was very well written (like I have found Cassandra Clare's other work to be) and never has a dull moment! There is always something going on, and then there is a bit of love thrown in there to keep it interesting too. There are 3 main characters to this series (though I can only speak for this book and the second one. The third has not come out yet as of 8/13/12), Jem and Will who are shadowhunters who reside at the London Institute, and Tessa who has come to London from New York after her Aunt's passing to live with her brother Nate. The relationships between the characters are wonderful, complicated, and sometimes heartbreaking. I am in love with this series, as much as I was of all of the Mortal Instruments books. I am dreading the long wait for Clockwork Princess to be released but am extremely excited for it.I HIGHLY suggest these books! This is the first in the Infernal Devices series, the second book is called Clockwork Prince. The third is titled Clockwork Princess, though, as I mentioned before, it has not been released yet. 08/14/2012
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Good Condition The book I received was in spectacular condition. There were no bend or ripped pages and it looked brand new! 06/17/2014
