    Useful - watch the heat!

I've had these bags on a KLR 650e for 5 months and 7000 miles. They have given good service and protection and have been a good value. In a day cruising in light to moderate rain, they dampened,(the included yellow raincovers (in their special zippered pocket) were not used) but fully protected the contents. The bags are padded on the top inside, top and outside. At the top they somewhat insulate and have reasonably kept cold things cold and warm things warm. They have taken slow/no speed spills well, and have protected the contents and the bike (and the rider) well, and have been useful fenders in the garage. They stay in place, are easy to install/ remove, and the visable parts clean up well with brushing or wiping with a wet cloth. They join for easy carrying The large zippered outside pockets take 1 6x12x1# object & have been useful for nets, bungies, cordage, maps, books. The under-lid pockets have been good for pens and papers. Some problems have been that I allowed the bag to migrate too far back and burned a 3" slash open in the seam. The major support/ shapeing structure in these bags is a wide, flexible plastic strip contained in a cloth cover that strongly velcros to the full front, bottom, and back surfaces within the bag. This allows the bag to somewhat sag and mis-shape when carrying weight. Reversing these strips only helps until weight is reintroduced. There is heat resistant material along the inside and bottoms ot the bag that resist heat in themselves, but on the exhaust side the heat migrated through the bike's plastic skin, the heat-resistant material of the bag (in contact with the skin), the plastic strip's liner and into the edge of the wide flexible plastic structural strip I mentioned earlier, causing it to melt, warp, and permanently malform. If I had installed a metal soft panier frame (like the Happy Trails OSR, "Origional Side Racks") I probably could have prevented this. (Also, where soft luggage is allowed to directly contact a bike's skin road-dust collects and creates a sandapering effect in the wind buffeting. I have used blue masking tape, plastic wrap, and clear contac paper to alleviate this, but have still suffered some damage to the plastic skin of the bike (there are m/c specific products for this problem)).

    Great bags for my HD1200R

I purchased my Harley a couple of weeks ago and wanted to get some bags so I don't have to wear a backpack or fannypack to carry stuff around. Anyhow, I had my eye on these bags but wasn't sure about the quality or how they would fit since they are universal. I went to my local store and found these sitting on the shelf -- the bags I got are Paul Jr. bags but they're the same as the Motogear except for the logo and mine have black waterproof covers versus the Motogear yellow. The shelf price for my bags said $49.88 and I asked a manager for an extra 10% off since the box was badly damaged. Anyhow, for less than $50, I thought I'd take a chance and these are just fantastic. The straps are pretty long so these should fit many bikes. I removed my seat and ran the straps underneath and then ran the buckle straps around the frame and my backrest. The bags are very high quality with good zippers. There are many pockets inside the bags and, if you look in my photo, there are exterior zipper pockets on each bag. I also like the heat-reflecting material on the bottoms and especially appreciate the reflective piping. I'm very happy with the size of the bags, the quality and how they look on my bike. I don't think I'd put more than 10 pounds in each bag but for around town errands or rides in the country, these are a useful addition to my bike at a great price.

    • A. Not hardly, I plan to scotch guard mine. On my weekend excursion, I got caught in a shower and the contents got wet. Fortunately, I pack everything in Ziploc bags due the type of on/off road riding I do.

    • A. last year I road thru a downpour with these bags on and the covers in place. The covers collected water under the bags and everything in them got soaked. There is no good way to use the covers over the whole top of the bags because the straps that hold them over and under the seats prevent the cover from going over the sides next to the bike. I intend to use space bags, or something similar to put thing in while inside the bags on my next trip.

    • A. Effectively water repellent; read my review. Since riding in the rain, I have since treated these bags with Atsko "Silicone Water-Guard" (item#1336; SKU: 074928133669), an effective spray-on HD water repellent, that helped considerably.
