Seems to be well made and they were sharp . I like the walnut handles and and the way they look sitting on the counter. After washing I dry them immediately and put them back in the storage block . I hope they last me a very long time . I have other Chicago Cutlery knives that I have used for years and they have stood up to constant use very well . I think these were a great value and I'm very happy with my purchase so far .

Knice Knives !

I purchased this set from Chicago Cutlery for my son who lives in a small studio apartment. He called to say that he really liked the set and that they were perfect for his small counter area. It's a really handsome set of knives and a wonderful value!

Great set of knives!

The knives are fairly sturdy unlike most inexpensive knife sets and strong enough to slice potatoes and sharp enough to cut tomatoes. You can't beat the value as a temporary set while your good knives arrive from storage, or as a reasonably nice starter set when setting up a new kitchen. Not a J.A. Henckels set, but at 10% of the cost you can't beat the value!

This knife set looks a lot more expensive than they are, I give it a 10 for appearance, it is small and neat so it fits on a small counter top - exactly what I need.

I like this brand, the items are functional, affordable and ascetic.

Great Value...

The knives cut well, but I only gave it four stars because I'm not a fan of the wood. Coming from a family that builds cabinets, the wood seems low quality.

I have heard that Chicago Cutlery is a wonderful knife company. I wondered at the price of this set but was hopeful. I was so disappointed when I started uncovering the knives. Some of the wooden handles were not fully stained and most were not smooth. If they aren't smooth now how bad will they be with wear? I prefer my utensil handles to feel smooth and definitely don't want splinters in the future! The block was o.k. but not great. I didn't like the look of the two pieces glued together to make the block. And the bottom of the block was chipped a few places. Just not a great experience. I will return to Walmart and try a different company I guess.
Another note: Eight of the knives are steak knives. It was my fault for thinking their would be six and they aren't all grouped together on the block...That is just my OCD talking though.

great company producing a lesser product

Bought these last February and was pretty disappointed. They are pretty sharp when you get them but quickly dull after first to second use. The wood also fades in color. The block is great to have on the counter for its purpose but that's all. I don't think I would buy these again due to the fact that I have to sharpen them with every single use even if it is just to cut up a tomato because it just digs into it and makes a dent instead of a clear slice. When sharp they are perfect but if you have a toddler pulling on your leg like me you don't have time to sharpen a knife before every meal or preparation for one.

OK knives.

Not the worst, not the best. The blades cut well, which I of course like, but the handles are unfinished and rough. I won't return them because it's a huge hassle at my local store, so hopefully there won't be any splinters!

They're "okay"

I bought these a feew weeks back and They get the job done. I find myself sharpening them every time I use them, sometimes meltiple times during use. Like the name of the post. I got what I expected from a cheap set of knives.

What can you expect from a $25 dollar knife set

I own several Chicago cutlery knives that have held up for years and are still extremely sharp. I bought these as a gift and took them right back to the store. First, they're not very sharp at all. Second, there's really only five "real" knives in this set. Who needs right steak knives? For the money I guess they're ok. If consider them average at best and not the Chicago Cutlery quality I'm used to.
