This is a great introductory smoker to help a new and aspiring bbq masters learn how to smoke and bbq.
This pit is usable as is, however it is an even better smoker if you modify it slightly.
The first thing I would recommend to anyone who buys this pit is to go to a local hardware store and buy some aluminum flashing, roll it up and extend the smoke stack down to the grill. This will allow the smoke to circulate around the chamber more before it is blown out the stack.
The second thing I would recommend to anyone who buys this is to install a flange of some sort in the cooking box to deflect the heat from the smoke box down and along the bottom of the grill. I lined mine with split bricks wrapped in aluminum foil and the flange directs teh head to circulate below the bricks. This helps the smoker heat more consistently and also helps it hold heat better.
Lastly, the grill for the smokebox sits kinda low if you turn it so that the long side runs the length of the pit, turning it so that its longer across the short access of the pits raises the charcoal and smoke chips to a better position to get air circulation and allowed me to get and hold higher tempratures.
Other than these modifications the pit is a wonderful little first smoker and the modifications outlined are pretty much standard mods you will find recommended for any ofsset smoker you might buy from anywhere, they arent specific to this smoker.

I was surprised to see how small this product was, I was expecting one similar in size to the one we saw in stock at the Festus, MO Wal-Mart for 138.00, but I guess you get what you pay for. This size will actually fit us better due to the fact ninety percent of our BBQ's are just me and the missus. Thanks.

This grill is everything my husband wanted. We used it for my brother's graduation party & everyone loved how the food came out. The grill racks make the easily removable & the temp. gage helps you keep an eye on the food with out opening the lid! Any charcoaler will love this!

I was given one in May 2005 in Florida and was unhappy that I didn't have room in the UHaul to bring it with me in Sept 2008....I am buying my 2nd one myself! The temp gage didn't survive into the 3rd summer but it is a great little smoker/grill and I used it 3 or 4 times a week year round. It was easy to clean and care for and can't wait for my new one here in Northern NY!

A great grill! Had it almost a year and no major problems out of it yet. The only complaint is the lid is un-even? Kinda hard to shut all the way. Takes a little wiggling. But everything else is great! Good deal for the money!
Rated 3 out of 5 by hmeshpper The lid does not close right on the main grill. Bad hinges!? Maybe with your own hinges it will close properly. It is a nice design, easy to assemble, and light enough to move around. Only compliant is the lid(seen two of these with the same problem) and some other cheap parts, but for under $100 not bad.

Firstly, this item shipped directly to the store and saved about $15 or more in shipping. Next, it already comes with the smoker attatchment...most don't, the smoker runs you another $50 or so, so this one was the best value. It is big enough to do a couple racks or ribs on, or 2-3 large pieces of meat, like roasts. The thermometer on the hood helps you keep an eye on your inside temps without having to open it up all the time. It is a great starter smoker. Set up takes a little time to put together, but is worth it. Take your day and smoke away!

This little grill is everything we expected....and a great value! We put it together in less than :30.
For under $100 we were able to smoke some babyback ribs that just fell off the bone....added a few hickory chips & they were better than what we've eaten in neighboring restaurants.
Doesn't take up much space on the patio and cleans up really well. Leave it to Char-Broil to come up with this great idea.

I can say this product was a great size for my patio. I don't have a great big patio and it was just right for me. Although I like to have big cook-outs it's big enough for major cooks-outs for alot of family members. Just make sure you size up your cooker before purchasing it for a big yard or patio. It's great for mines!!!!

Good for the money. Next step up is the silver smoker for $160.00. But for just starting out this 80.00 beauty works fine for me. Many modifications available to do yourself to make it better. Just google "silver smoker modifications" and read on. Some include making a baffle for the firebox to even out the heat, another is to take some rolled up alumin. and bring the damper closer to grate level in order to move the heat level across the grating etc. Has made great BBQ!!!!! Would recommend to beginner, novice needs to step up.
