The 76EQ Celestron Astromaster Telescope is ideal for both terrestrial and celestial viewing. It is capable of giving correct views of land and sky. This celestial telescope produces bright, clear images of the Moon and planets. It is possible to see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn with every one of these fine instruments. For views of the brighter deep space objects like galaxies and nebulae, we recommend the larger aperture and light gathering ability of the Newtonian reflectors. This terrestrial telescope has a 76mm objective lens. It is easy to set up quickly without the need for tools. With the German equatorial mount, you can accurately locate and track sky objects. It also has a quick-release dovetail attachment and a StarPointer that is permanently mounted.

    • A. Use the included 20mm erecting eyepiece. It is provided for terrestrial viewing so images are right side up and correct. Due to the lenses and mirrors in telescopes, images normally appear backward and upside down.

    • A. I purchased this telescope myself recently and am using it for terrestrial viewing. The answer you received telling you that you must use the correct eyepiece (two eyepieces included with this telescope) is correct. That eyepiece will produce a right-side-up image. Generally, it is true that reflector telescopes produce inverted images, but this eyepiece corrects the image. By the way, quite a telescope! I can see cars moving on roads from 70 miles away. • A. There should be another eye piece (the black one) that comes with the telescope. This eye piece is used for land viewing and projects objects correctly.

    • A. Unfortunately, with this type of telescope there is nothing she can do. This telescope is a reflector telescope and the images will appear upside-down. Generally, reflector telescopes are not used for land viewing. There is no remedy for this situation. If she wants to view landscapes, you would need to purchase a Refractor telescope. The images would still appear incorrect however, you can get an Erect Image Prism diagonal to correct it.

An excellent quality scope on a budget. Although this is a smaller aperture telescope among reflectors, it is a high quality one, evident in all components included. I am still learning about astronomy, and this telescope was the next step in my journey. I must also say the site to store option was surprisingly easy also. Upon unpacking the scope, I was pleasantly surprised to see the quality of this one. Every piece is well made. My 2 other ones are smaller refractors, an older 50mm Bushnell and a 60mm Celestron. Though only a step up from the Powerseekers, there is a huge difference in quality. The scope includes a 20mm erecting eyepiece and a 10mm kellner. I previously bought a set of Plossls which will make it even better. Very happy, especially for the price I paid.

As an entry level telescope, the 76EQ delivers what you would expect in an equipment on the $100.00 range. The adjustment levelers are too short for the base to work freely, and the finder is almost of no use due to size. Even that it has a light to help you pointing the scope, it will not help that much. The assembly was real easy if you know this kind of mounting, since an equatorial configuration becames a little tricky for first time users. Once you figure out the movement of the scope, it will be easy to assembly and use. The eye piece get in a very uncomfortably position for some observations north of the equatorial belt. What I did was to adapt a web camera to the eye piece container and then place it in front of the eye piece. An USB cable to my laptop assures a very comfortable position for observations. This also avoids the eternal "It's my turn !" from my kids.....or from myself. Having the web camera also helps on taking pictures or even short videos of your observations. And since the front cover has a small removable cap on the center, you can reduce the amount of light for moon observations trough the web camera. It is a good product for backyard observations. Just be sure to do a good orientation of the base so you'll need to move only one leveler to keep track of your object, since it does not have a motor, although the base is ready for an addition of one.

I got the Astromaster 76EQ and its been a great scope so far. The Mount is pretty stable, even when a breeze comes in its tolerable. It has nice eyepieces to start with, a 20mm erect image eyepiece for views on earth, and a 10mm for up close lunar/nebulae/planetary shots. I would recommend getting more eyepieces, although the visuals(especially moon shots) are fantastic with the supplied eyepieces. The Red dot finder is kind of tricky at first but easy to get used to. This was my first EQ mounted telescope and its easy to learn how to use and built very well. The price they are posting for this scope here is WAY lower than other stores so if you want a AWESOME scope for less money, dont hesitate to buy this awesome scope at walmart.com.

Purchased for my 10 y.o. son. He loves it. Easy to set up. Price can't be beat at around $80. Celestron web site lists this for $200. Great telescope for entry into astronomy.

I purchased this reflector telescope in hopes of being able to see Denver up-close from our living-room view-windows, 40 miles away in the mountains. UNbelievable! I can see CARS moving along on streets in Denver; can even see cars 70 miles away or so. So...as a terrestrial telescope, it's quite amazing. Next, I'll be turning it to the heavens. Very pleased!
