The following content was provided by the publisher.
Suzanne Collins continues the amazing story of Katniss Everdeen in the phenomenal Hunger Games trilogy.
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

About the author

Biography of Collins, Suzanne

Suzanne Collins was born on August 10, 1962. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut and graduated from Indiana University with a double major in Drama and Telecommunications. Collins went on to receive an M.F.A. from New York University in dramatic writing. Since 1991, she has been a writer for children's television shows. She has worked on the staffs of several shows including Clarissa Explains it All, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, Little Bear and Oswald.

She also co-wrote the Rankin/Bass Christmas special, Santa, Baby! and was the head writer for Scholastic Entertainment's Clifford's Puppy Days. Her books include When Charlie McButton Lost Power, The Underland Chronicles, and the Hunger Games Trilogy. Book one of this trilogy, The Hunger Games, became a major motion picture in 2012 with Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence portraying the main character of Katniss Everdeen.

Review by Library Journal (2009-06-22)

Stephen King meets Dr. Zhivago. I am being less than fair in promoting the much-anticipated sequel to Collins's The Hunger Games (see my 2008 Best of the Year list) when it will not be out until September. My only excuse is that it gives the uninitiated a last chance to read the first book before this one climbs to the top of the children's best-sellers list. (Add yourself to your library's holds queue now!) The story takes place in a future world where teens are made to compete to the death in an annual tribute called the Hunger Games.

At the conclusion of the first volume, the games' victors face an uncertain future at the hands of a cruel Capitol. All I will say about the second is that it is as much of a page-turner as the first and leaves the reader even more desperate for what comes next. Why It Is for Us: If heart-stopping adventure is not your cup of tea, consider reading The Hunger Games and Catching Fire for their winning characters and epic themes of oppression, rebellion, and love. Collins cannot write the third book fast enough.

Rated 5 out of 5★ by Better than the first! Catching Fire was a brilliant sequel to The Hunger Games. It was so invigorating to read that I couldn't put it down...except for once where it was so exciting I had to put it down to catch my breath! Wonderful read, and the book itself arrived right on time and in pristine condition. Finding this book in a hardcover that is affordable in my college student budget was tricky, but then I found it here on and I will never go back to buying books for full retail price again! Gotta love Walmart :) 04/26/2012

Rated 5 out of 5★ by An excellent novel Catching Fire is the sequel to Suzanne Collins' previous book, The Hunger Games. Catching Fire delivers a new scenario and several plot twists to the trilogy. It delivers action and suspense and is difficult to put down. Like the last book, it has a cliffhanger ending that makes the wait until the next book difficult to endure. If you liked The Hunger Games, Catching Fire is a must-read. If you haven't read The Hunger Games, what are you waiting for? 02/03/2010
