Rated 4 out of 5 by MrsCoffee2012 My 4 year old had been asking for a loft bed for quite some time. As a Mom, I was interested in a durable, solid wood construction bed (with storage) that would last through an apocalypse. My son, on the other hand, wanted a playground. When he saw this castle bed online - there was no going back.PROS: 1. This bed came way earlier than estimated. Was a very pleasant surprise. 2. There are so many fun components about this bed. Between the slide, the tent above the sleeping area, and the curtained play area undermeath - my son LOVES it. 3. It will hold 300# Meaning my husband or myself can get up there with him to read him a bedtime story. 4. Between the high railings, the lower height than a standard bunkbed, and the arched tent over the sleeping area, I don't fear him falling out of bed. 5. The slide makes getting out of bed for a sleepy kid safer than trying to climb down the ladder in the middle of the night. 6. The raised bed allows for some storage underneath if necessary.CONS: 1. Good thing I actually enjoy assembling things because this came in a million pieces (3 different boxes). Challenge accepted. 2.The directions leave a bit to be desired. My best advice is to pay attention and also to get to know all the pieces, count them, make friends with them before starting on your journey. (The screws appear pre-sorted. They are not. They are MOSTLY pre-sorted) 3. There are some parts (namely the arches over the bed) that are somewhat difficult to line-up/assemble on your own. *4. My least favorite yet not completely unexpected: there were a couple small spots at bends in the metal frame where the paint flaked off a little. It's such that you just don't want to mess with it because it WILL keep flaking away, you can tell. I guess the only real remedy is to get some paint and try to carefully go over those areas before more damage occurs. I feel like this is probably a common problem and perhaps the manufacturers should include touch-up paint if that's the case. This bed was pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. How well it will stand the test of time remains to be seen, but in the meantime - my son LOVES it. It is a metal frame, seemingly flimsy but of course when assembled completely is very sturdy and quite capable of handling the needs of a 4 year old. I expect him to have a few years of fun with this thing. The overall value for the price is pretty accurate. I would reccommend this to fellow parents of young adventurers. 11/02/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by MommytoLucas Great boys bed! Let me preface this by saying that I never write reviews but felt compelled to do so for this product. To say the least when I first ordered this bed I had very little expectations. At the best I was hoping for something cute that would last me a few years and at least be a good bribe to get my toddler out of my bed into his own bed. This bed FAR exceeded my expectations. Once you put it together with the seemingly endless amount of screws it is built like a tank! This will probably last me until they leave for college (and the oldest is only 4 right now!) once they get older and outgrow the novelty it won't be that big of a deal to remove the slide and tent and convert it to a traditional loft bed.Right now I have a twin mattress also on the floor underneath for my 2 year old to sleep on, and my 4 year old will be sleeping on top. The castle decorations fit perfectly and Velcro in securely. The other reviews are correct it take a good 3-4 hours to put together. Expect a few hand cramps along the way. Remind your husband to watch his language as he puts it together. But compared to other pieces of furniture we've put together in the past the pieces for the most part line up correctly which is always a worrisome factor when putting together large items such as this.Bonus - shipping to MD was only $20 Which saved me the hassle of bumming a favor off of a friend with a truck to help me pick it up and take it home.So if you're on the fence don't be, you'll be pleasantly surprised like me. And the best part is that BOTH of my boys slept in their room last night for the first time ever! 07/29/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by SallyandChuck good buy This bed appears very sturdy, I felt comfortable getting on top. It took my husband about 4 hrs to put together. The tent in a s microsaude material and attracts lint easily, but I still like it. The tent DOES NOT go all away around the bottom of the bed. The back is open. Also, on my bed tent some of the velcro fasteners were missing. I am not sure if I will return the tent for another or simply add some velcro myself. The slide is very sturdy but, not very steep at all and takes up a lot of space. Also, the slide can not go on either side just the left side shown. All in all, its a very good value and my son adores it. 03/03/2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by chainey357 There are alot of pieces to this bed, and some of the screws were the wrong size. Not to mention what a pain the slide is to put together! It took two of us, because some of the holes weren't drilled right, and we had to mess with it a little bit to get it to work right. However, the finished product looks even more amazing than the pictures shown here. They just don't do it any justice whatsoever! It's VERY sturdy, and even with three children playing on it, it doesn't budge! The fabric is extremely soft, and the kids LOVE every part. They love that they can slide down it, or play "cowboys and indians" with the "wagon" on the top. They love the "fort" underneath, where they can put toys, and play all day. And they love the little windows all over that they can play peek a boo through. It may be a slight pain to put together, but it's well worth the effort! Kids absoloutely love this bed 100%. I'm thinking Santa might be bringing one for the girls come Christmas time! 10/09/2012
