Love my Canon Lense

I love the size of this lense because I can take great pictures even when I'm already close to the subject. These were 'quick' shots. As you know, babies don't stay in the same position for long.

This lens is perfect fo my use. I am a semi-professional photographer and I find this lens is light, easy to use and DURABLE. If you are just looking to take better pictures I'd buy this lens. I use this lens everyday and I don't know how many thousands of shot's I've taken with it but it is flawless for my applications. Canon has really stepped it up in the last 10 years to make their products not only as good as the competition but in many cases better. The IS feature on this lens allows you to shoot in much lower light without a tri pod. I would recomend this and the full line of IS lenses to anyone who is going to upgrade from their point and shoot camera to a 33mm rig. It is so easy to use it is like a no brainer...you don't have to be an expert photographer and know all about focal points and F stops ect. Just attach it to your camera and enjoy the technology.

I've been using 'digital camera' for 8 years now. I started with the Canon power shot A610, which I found it very satisfying for a starter. With the results that I have, I was encouraged to purchase a better camera with the latest model (at that time), Rebel XSi, and still keep my power shot model. I used my XSi with my 18-55mm IS lens mostly on landscape and sports/action. Very satisfied with the results, it encouraged me with more interest on photography and decided to trade and upgrade the camera with latest 7D including a new set of lenses - 18-135mm IS and 70-300mm IS - and still keep the power shot model (used for 'not-so-serious' shooting). I never had 2nd thought of considering other brands. With my Canon 7D and the new set of lense, I find it very satisfying on performance, quality, feature and price/value. I love photography using my Canon 7D. Now I'm considering a Canon macro lense. Saying: 'My fingers become itchy when I can't hold and click my camera in a day'.

This is a decent lens from canon. It will fit any of their SLR cameras, digital or film, crop sensor, or full frame. It has a great range for a walk-around kind of a lense. It may be a touch long on a crop sensor camera like the XTi or the 40D, but should be okay for most everyone. A really nice touch is the Image Stabilization (IS). Depending on which iteration of the IS it will take down the exposure from 2, maybe 3 stops, to reduce camera shake. Traditionally, you had to take your zoom factor, say 125, and in order to take an exposure without camera shake you would have to take a shot at the same number or hundredths of a second (1/125 of a second) or faster. IS will reduce that to 1/60 second maybe as much as 1/15 or so. That will let you take some decent pictures indoors without using a flash or tripod. However, if your subject is moving, you'll need more speed, typically 1/60 for relatively stationary people.. I personally hate using flash unless I absoloutely have to, and your subjects usually appreciate that. However! This is not a Canon 'L' class lens. For only a couple hundred dollars more, you start to get into the low end Canon L line (L is supposed to stand for "luxury"). Once you've seen how the colors "pop" with one of those, you'll never go back to a regular lens again. If you can stand to wait, I would recommend saving a little more cash (however, no L lenses have Image Stabilization at anywhere near this price point). So, at this price, this is probably the best zoom lens you're gonna find.

This lens is a great travel lens. It works wonderfully with my 40d and 5d. While not the sharpest lens in my bag it is more than adequate for travel and snap shots. The image stabilization does it jobs and I can shoot hand held with out issue--I do bump up the ISO when necessary just because I like fast shutter speeds. I have not experienced the lens slippage mentioned so much in the other reviews. However, having read about the lens slippage issue several years ago--I do not push and pull on the barrel at all (as I don't want the lens to start slipping). The build quality to me is very good and the quality of contrast/sharpness is acceptable. The best way to tell if this lens will meet your needs is to head your local camera store for some test shots with your camera and review/pixel peak if you like at home. Also, if slippage is a concern inspect the lens at the store --turn it facing down--that will tell you a story. I really like my 28-135mm and based on my experience--I can recommend this as a very good travel lens.
