  • A. 2 AA's If you choose non-rechargeable batteries they must be ALKALINE AA's otherwise you will get no operation or low battery warning with standard AA's.

  • A. It takes two AA Alkaline or two AA NiMH rechargable. My friend is using the AA lithium which last longer. I wrote to Canon and asked them about it and they do not recomend using the litium as it might overheat in the camera. Also I saw somewhere that the TSA does not want you flying with lithium batteries.

I liked the first A1300 Silver camera so much that I purchased an A1300 Black camera for my wife and for a back up camera for our vacation. I have a 3 year old A1100IS, that I love, which has some problems with worn battery door latches, requiring Gorilla tape to hold shut. I have made some comparisons of the A1300 to older A1100IS. Both models have optical view finders that I would be lost without in bright sun light and will accept AA batteries (I use the 2500 ma rechargeable with an external charger). The new A1300 appears to have a better battery door design and the 5X optical zoom works much better that the older 4X optical zoom on distance shots, on the A1100IS. The A1100IS , which has optical image stability works better on close up shots than the newer A1300, in digital stable mode, however if you follow the instructions you can get good results with the A1300 in smart auto mode, holding the camera still. Practice and experimenting improves results with the A1300. The prices of our A1300 cameras were $109 for the first and $119.00 for the second, which dropped to $99.00 the week after I bought the second. Still, good values for compact easy to use cameras.

This is a good basic camera, I bought it for the viewfinder and it appears like the older larger models that you can grip it from the side, wrong, it's much smaller, that is an illusion. The viewfinder does zoom on pic mode however it does not on video mode. It takes AA batteries. There are 5 volume adjustments however none are for the video recording itself, but the volume is adequate. I have had some issues with the software in filing on the pc and it has too many options making a simple task problematic. The pic and video quality is adequate, the video is slow to adapt with shadows. Once downloaded onto the pc it looks good as most do. It does not have some of the added features as pic presentation options but as I said it appears as a good basic camera. There is no burst mode but it shoots faster than most remaining Kodaks, if you take 3-4 constant shots the wait on low battery warning appears. The Cannons I've have have lasted with no problems. From my experience the cameras that use the stabilizing feature can be unreliable.

Small size makes it very handy to carry in a pocket. Easy to use, takes good photos in most light conditions, but struggles a bit in low light if the flash is not used. The best feature--the one that makes it stand out from other small point-and-shoot cameras--is the view finder. In bright sunlight the view finder on this camera is indispensable; with other cameras, the view screen is a glare and composing the shot becomes a real challenge. Not with this one! I'm very satisfied.

After buying two other digital cameras in the last three yeears, It is nice to have a digital camera with an eyepiece, with the eyepiece zoom. It beats holding your camera over your head and trying to see the screen while you are getting glare from the sun. This feature was available on the earlier digital cameras years ago, then disappeared. The camera is easy to use, and easy to change picture quality. This camera is a pleasure to use, and a great value.

This camera incorporates some of the features found on my Nikon D90 SLR. Easy to operate, takes great pictures, you can manipulate the images as the picture is being taken or later on, in camera. Batteries are 2 AA's, better than rechargeable only. Great price, I love this camera!
