OMG, The Best Camera EVER for me! G12

This camera is "CANDY". Best camera that I have ever used. I return many camera's because I am very picky about my photo's, especially of people. I want the photo's to show the clear details of the eyes on people and animals. This camera also takes great scenery pictures. It is easily for the beginner and for the professional. Do not sit on the fence. You will be So So So Happy! My problem is that I have NEVER LOVED a CAMERA before so much that it has to be on the list of things I want to save in an emergency. First save my family, my identification, photographs, computer, of course, and my Canon G12 Camera. I hope this helps. I really value reviews from customers. If you are a person who writes reviews, Thank you. Others, try to write a review on your purchases when you can.

This camera is great! Lots of features. It can be set on Auto mode to let the camera do all the work or on Manual giving all the control to the photographer. It takes beautiful pictures and is easy to handle. The LCD minitor adjust automatically to room brightness which is great in the sun. It's listed as a 'point and shoot' but it's a little too big to slide into a pocket. It has a nice size battery that holds a charge for quite some time. I'm very happy with this camera. There's also plenty of reviews of the G12 on the net from people way more qualifed than I but I hope this at least helped.

Manual Overrides in Compact Camera
8/19/2011

Customer review by Jack

This is a great camera for the enthusiast who wants most of the flexibility of an SLR camera in a compact. I was a long time SLR user but always hated carrying around all the weight of such cameras. When digital compacts hit the market around 2001, I switched to compacts. I gave up a lot of flexibility, but the convenience was worth it. .When my digital compact broke and I saw the Cannon G12 written up in a magazine, I went for it. With the G12 you have it it either way. You can shoot in auto mode and let the camera do everything, or you can take over in any one of the manual modes. I used the manual modes extensively on a recent backpacking trip to take time exposures at night and shoot in the early morning just before dawn. It’s almost as good as an SLR While it’s called a compact, that is a little bit of a stretch. It is a very large compact in both size and weight as compared to most point and shoot compacts.. But it’s still much smaller than an SLR.

A wise choice

Have just decided to purchase this G12 from canon 2 days before my trip to Europe instead of carrying my Canon 400D with me. And It's a wise decision of me. G12 turned out to be a really good camera in performance. Compact size with good performance is its best point, beside that, if you are me, an semi-amateur, G12 automatic will be the good choice. The "not good" from g12 is when you shot photo in a snowy weather. It cannot focus very well. Beside that, battery display is a problem with g12 too, battery life is good but it's full all the time I used and when it is low, it turn to be nearly low signal and after just turn it off for 10 seconds and turn on again, it's full battery but then 10 minus continuously taking picture, it's out of energy totally. However, in fact, this is only after 1 morning full of hard shooting photo and I changed the battery in the early afternoon. Now, I gave my canon 400D to my dad and I just use this g12. The price is a little bit high. At this price, I would like Canon to add a case with the camera

The Power in the PowerShot line.

The PowerShot G12 puts the Power into the powershot line's name! With 30 years of experience as a photographer I've owned 3 35mm film cameras from two different manufacturers. And three digital cameras from Canon the G2 being my first digital and the Rebel XTi my only DSLR. Out of the box my G12 was both familiar and exciting. Clean no nonsense looks, solid feel in the hand, prominent clearly labeled physical controls and shortcut buttons, and hot shoe placed high over a real viewfinder. After about 2000 photos with my G12. From full sky shots capturing meteor showers, landscapes, vacation snapshots, to macro work of flowers and more I've had a high percentage of keepers 90+, to be honest most of the rejects happened in full manual mode. The versatility of control and camera assisted modes make the G12 a brilliant co-creator. When I find a scene I want to capture for myself or share with family and friends I know that my G12 can deliver.

Best Camera almost perfect

I think this is the best of the best and could be a little better. The cons list are not a deal buster but really could be the final touches to a camera that just works. I shoot an extreme amount of ECU shots of products for our CGI department and this is my camera of choice. For hand held shots my biggest problem is holding the camera. Without the bump on the front that you fingers wrap around (see the A630) it is easy to drop or else the base of your thumb hits the menu button. This seems to happen at the worst time when under a car in an odd position. Like I said not a deal buster but an aggravation when you are in a hurry. For table tops or light table shots the door on the bottom of the camera requires removal from tripod when changing batteries or removing CF card. After setting up a shot on an extention arm this can be a real hassle and can require resetting up shot. Ugh -- an art director can spot a lighting shift and this can be a cause for a reshoot. Once a shot is set you should be able to just pop of the disk fro review.

This is a great camera for taking pictures in all situations. I was tired of the fuzzy and under exposed pictures of cheap point-and-shoot cameras. If you care about the quality of your pictures, you will be really happy with the results of the G12. If not, well, then any cheap camera will do. The G12 has a lot of dials and buttons, something which I specifically bought for greater creative control. This is lacking in many cheaper cameras because by the time you go through on-screen menus to change settings, the subject is gone or no longer worth taking a picture of. Of course the camera can be set on full automatic and it will pick the correct scene and exposure for you. Other than it is light and compact, I wanted the variable angle LCD display so I can take those angle shots or when I have to hold the camera above the crowd or for a "worm's eye" view of a building. The G12 won't replace a more expensive DSLR in terms of picture sharpness and color balance, but it comes close, and you won't need to carry around lenses and extra batteries in a camera bag either. That makes the G12 perfect for travelling, especially when you have to travel light and move around a lot. If you want your pictures to stand out from the regular point and shoot crowd, and in the first week of taking pictures with the G12, people commented on the higher quality of my pictures, then this camera is for you!

My favorite Canon Camera Yet
5/6/2011

Customer review by oceancamel

I have been searching for an amazing quality camera that can zoom and focus without blurring the images. I also wanted a camera that does not blur the image when taken without flash. Moreover, I was looking for a smart camera that can adjust to the scenes without having me fiddle around with many settings. This camera has it all. The sharpness of the images and the clarity is so amazing, that I find myself looking at the photos I took over and over and over again in amazement. Finally the icing on the cake, I can take this camera with me underwater when I dive --> an AWESOME camera and I can take it underwater (my wish definitely came true here). I have used underwater cameras before, but rarely do I get the images I want while diving, either the lighting is not right, or my hand can't stand still due to current or something. Once I place this camera in the underwater case, I cannot wait to see how the pictures come out.. I am very excited. Once again, Canon has done it again. In my Opinion, Canon is one of the best camera manufacturers out there.
