Why doesn't it say propane? Is it not propane?

Yes the thermometer for the inside is on the front door.

Yes, there's an outside dial for setting the temperature. There is also a thermometer on the door of the smoke chamber. However, most experienced smokers advise getting a separate digital thermometer for the smoke chamber as they tend to last longer.

Love this smoker I smoked a Pork Shoulder today and it came out prefect. I hold temperature nice. I also cranked it up to high while seasoning it to see what its top temp was and I did hit 500 degrees in no time. If you are looking for a great smoker for a great price then I would recommend this in a heart beat

Great Smoker

First 2 tries at smoking went really well.  I was easily able to maintain a temp of 225 and my pulled pork turned out fabulous.  It's solid, sturdy and I put it together alone within an hour.  Love it

24" Smoke Vault

After much research and comparison, I chose to go with the Camp Chef 24" Smoke Vault. So far this smoker has impressed me. The design and build quality is top notch. Assembly was very easy, especially if you follow directions. A couple items were damaged out of the package and I contacted Camp Chef and their customer service has been outstanding. They sent me new parts right away with no questions asked. I have already smoked ribs and a pork shoulder and both items have turned out wonderful. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great smoker at a very reasonable price.

Great smoker!

Chose this smoker after reading great reviews from others.  Was choosing between this and a pellet grill.  Camp Chef appears to sip the propane, which is good! Had an electric Weber red pill smoker that did great for years. My new Smoke Vault is a whole different animal, love it so far. Easy to put together. Ordered gasket at the same time and put on the front door during assembly (Camp Chef you should just include this) Works great, holds temp perfect.  First cook was a tri-tip, great smoke flavor, tender and juicy.  Thru some brats in for an hour and a half on 200 degrees instead of the grill, wow thats a whole new flavor profile! Thank you camp chef!  Looking forward to using ALOT and Smoking a Turkey for Thanksgiving! Going to take some trial and error and on smoke times, but looking forward to the challenge. Camp Chef 24 Smoke Vault is a Winner!

I did a lot of research on smokers because I live in Northern PA and it can get cold around Bear and Deer season when I smoke for camp.  I was looking for a smoker that was large enough and could smoke brisket at 20 deg for 13 hours.  This smoker has delivered with everything I've thrown at it.  I've smoked Brisket, ribs, meatloaf, wings, almonds, chickens, etc.  Last year my wife bought me 2 more grates and the cover.  I love it all.  I would recommend this smoker to anyone...and I have.

Quality, Operation and versatility Excellent

Our first smoker was electric and the electronics failed on the 2nd use. This is a much more simple unit and so very much better. One persons suggestion was to get a Maverick thermometer, which we did and it made the whole experience just that much better. We actually found that with the vents closed (they don't close all the way) and set on lowest flame setting we get about 210 F, which is simply perfect.

Easy and pretty darn good

Received Smoke Vault last week & was very happy to see how the unit was packed. The packing was so well done there was no way damage could occur. Have used the unit one time & very happy with the results. Believe this is the smoker to purchase.

I just smoked ribs for the first time on mine. They were spectacular. 6th smoke since I bought it. The door handle cannbe wonky but overall it's a great buy.

Issues:

Although the packaging was perfect my smoker had quality issues and I'd say that this was a cosmetic blemish or 2nd quality product:
-Stainless Steel door had marks and small dents in a patter across the door
-back edge of grease tray was scratched and bent
-right corner of smoker was dented
-None of these issues will affect the smoker form working but I was expecting a 100% perfect product so was surprised to receive a product in this condition new in the box.

Remedy:
-Walmart provided a 15% discount
- Camp Chef offered to replace door
