GREAT FOR LARGER CATS

I needed this litter box for my growing Maine Coon. She is a scratcher and the previous open box was just too messy. She pawed everything to cover her deposit...except the litter. I researched on line and in stores for a box that had high sides, was enclosed (nix the flap door immediately), easy to clean, odorized, and had a handle. This CP7 was the winner. She uses it so much I thought she was sick or something but realized she just enjoys having her own space to paw and scratch and throw litter all around ‘to her heart’s content.’ So much so that I ordered an second CP7 for my smaller Tuxedo cat. This way the Tuxedo will not have to wait for Ms. Maine Coon to exit the litter box. One for each. Easy to clean and odorized. Large inside capacity is purrfect (17 inches). It is a mild hop to get into the box but what cat does not like a short jumping challenge? Comes as a top with handle and odor filter and cheesy locks and a bottom pan. The locks are a bother but I use them just to secure the top as a precaution to rambunctuous cats. I lock just one or two then have to remember I locked them as I try to lift the top off to clean the box. One other thing making this an easy litter box to clean is my purchase of the Litter Locker II. That litter keeper is a Godsend and so much fun and EASY to use. Research it and see what you think. Do not know if WalMart carries it. I got it at a garage sale and am one happy cat owner.

This extra-giant enclosed litter box is exactly what I needed for my three cats... two of them are your "regular" sized cats, but my oldest one has Maine Coon in him and he's also "extra-giant"... this box is perfect for him... he has plenty of room to get in and turn around as much as he needs to... having the cover is great for keeping the litter inside the box rather than it being kicked out on the floor... the clear door also helps keep litter inside, as well as odor... my cats were a little put off by it to begin with, but quickly learned how to get through it... some people remarked that the swinging door didn't fit right or got stuck... I found that mine only need to be re-positioned to be free swinging... also, some people said the top didn't stay on when moving the box... it will stay on fine IF you don't overfill it with litter, and if you make sure to press the snaps FIRMLY to connect the cover to the pan... for this price, you just can't go wrong!

Top 100 contributor

We have purchased 2 of these big boys to replace the Van Ness giant "sifting" litter box that didn't live up to expectations after all. I have to say these Extra-Giant size pans are great! We have 3 cats, one we call "chubbly wubbly" since she looks like she swallowed a bowling ball, and she has no problem jumping in and out of the door. We keep one box with the door on and the other with the door off (it snaps on and off). Granted the box without the door sees more action but they have a choice, no peeking allowed sometimes :). The locks are strong, I can pick up the box by the handle with litter in it and not worry, yet opening it is a breeze. The plastic is strong, after watching the FedEx driver put the 40 pound box of Special Kitty cat litter on top of the box with this litter pan in it and thinking well how do I explain this to WalMart, but the pan was in perfect condition. Treat your cat to a "master bath" and get them one of these Extra-Giant pans, you will both be glad you did! (No I don't work for Van Ness we just love their products!)

  • A. The pan (bottom part) has one side molded differently than the other side. The door side of the top cover needs to be on the correct side of the bottom pan or else the door will get stuck. If top is put on correctly, and the door is on correctly it swings free. I have 3 cats and 3 of these litter boxes all with the doors on and cats have no trouble getting in or out. Also, I do not use a liner as someone else mentioned. I can see that a liner might interfere with the door.

  • A. my cat gets stuck inside and stuck out quite often but it is because i use box liners and that keeps the door from swinging good. other than that it has worked great for 3 years. it keeps my dog from eating the cat waste. I am just buying a new one because we are moving over seas and stocking up on the filters.

  • A. My cats do not have a problem. It swings very easily and is very light. I found out the reason the door was getting stuck for me (as others have mentioned on here as well) was because I had the entire lid on backwards. Now that I've turned the hooded part around it's not had a problem with that once. Hope this helps. :)

  • A. Yes, there is a problem with the door not opening properly, they should have make it just a little bit shorter for it to be able to swing back and forth easily and I have even thought about trying to shortening it up a tad myself as it is easy to remove the door itself. But really with the height of the litter box it's not really necessary if you keep it cleaned out and not let it build up with mess.

  • A. My cat got in but he couldn't get out because another cat was pushing the door in while the cat in the box was pushing out. The one in the box started to panic while the cat outside the box thought it was a game. I removed the plastic doors and now all 6 cats like the covered boxes better than the open boxes.

  • A. The door pops right off easily. I had to remove the door because I found that it opens in but not back out, which meant my kitty would be stuck in the box! Once you pop off the door though, the box is fine. My cat seems to like this litter box and he is very finicky as well. Hope that helped!
